“Good hotel but worst service”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

Shivsagar palace is a hotel with grand building but very very poor service.
The rooms and interior of hotel and its location is nice but it provides bad service as most of the AC's in the room do not work.
Also the manager is worst , room service is ever worst.
The guys for room service just sit in the hall and watch tv.
Also there is complete power outage in the hotel when the power goes out,no proper generator facility,hence no hot water.
I suggest you prefer the hotel only if you need peace and no crowd.

Room Tip: Take rooms on the 1st floor provides sea view

This place is good for people who are looking for some peaceful time looking into the sea. We had a sea view from the AC Deluxe room.The rooms were spacious and clean. Room services and food needs to be improved as the intercom wasn't working in any of the rooms and the cook was on a holiday !!! The room rates were slightly more according to the services we got.
It is located at a 15 minute walk from the bus stand uphill and not many know about it. Worth a try for the view they offer.

We had booked Non A/C rooms with breakfast but the manager on arrival upgraded us to superior rooms in second floor on request. Thanks to the management. The hotel looks like a palace and is atop the hill from the temple and beach. Those who want to walk from the beach can do so but should be ready for steep roads. Rooms are clean and spacious and all rooms are sea facing with a marvellous view.
The food here is limited. They serve only vegetarian food and in select timings with only few options available. All that is mentioined in the menu card( limited offerings) is not available . Quality of food also needs to be improved.

Things to improve :
Develop the huge vacant space in front of the hotel by turning it green with trees/shrubs/lawns etc.

Room Tip: Rooms in the second floor have better sea view.

We opted for Non AC rooms with Breakfast package. All the rooms in this Hotel are sea facing. It is at walk able distance from Ganpatipule Temple and beach. Rooms were neat and clean and very airy. It is worth the amount spent. Room service was quick and decent. Do not opt for the food here as it is bad in quality and not at all worth the money. If you have a vehicle then better go to Swad restaurant which is about 2 kms from here.

Room Tip: Check for the balcony sliding door's latch as it was not working in our room.

* Lack of transparency in tariff... while stttling the bill I wanted to have a look at the tariff chart..... and was informed.... dont have it. Which only shows the service level of the hotel.
* Service poor
* Not much choice of food... have good menu (eeen have CHINEASE food... thats the spelling of the chinese food in the menu.... but is not available). No south Indian food for snacks.....
* There is nothing as "SUITE"... just airconditioned room with a small dining table (whic is not there in other rooms)
* No security at gate
* Can see buffaloes grazing grass in the evening in the lawns (both in the front & back)
* No refund policy... if you have paid advance... no way of getting it back (thats the first sign of trouble).... any decent hotel will have REFUND policy
* No facility to pay by credit card (unthinkable in this time.... feel another sign of trouble..... which I ignored... but realised after the trip)
* Poor maintenance of property... the floor was sticky....had to request to have the same cleaned.
* only thing good about the property is... view... which really is good and soothing.
* Lastly... was the only occupant in the hotel.... was really scary.
* Had to stay there as had booked and paid advance & refund was not available for cancellation.

Room Tip: Accomodation is available at reasonable rates at other places

Rooms are really spacious. Location is good and a little away from the main beach (approx 1KM). Room have excellent view of the sea from the balcony. Service is not bad but there is a lot of scope for improvement. Food items are limited and taste both way- sometimes good and sometimes not so. Except the food, I think other points are OK for the price. Better to go only on holidays when there are good occupancy. Otherwise there is chance of loneliness. Enough parking space for cars, space for children to play. With a little more work, it can be a big attraction for the tourists.

Room Tip: First floor is better

no real luxury. but they dont charge too much either. there has been an effort to build the it like a palace, but dont expect a heritage property look and feel. cost cutting is evident in plastic chairs, flooring, painting etc. but rooms very spacious. we stayed in the suites , which had stunning view from the balcony and the bed also...the hotel is atop a cliff and you get ounhindered view of the sea and the famous arabian sea sunset... but this hotel is not near the beach... long walk or rather a short car ride away... service was ok, the staff was hospitable and eager.. vegeterian restaurant... food was also good ..home food style...
