gajnur dam is 15 kms from shimoga city built across river tunga. its a just another dam site, the sight of water storage was great. a specific visit to this place is not advised if you are in shimoga for some reason and you have a spare time then you can plan to visit. the elephant training camp nearby is great and you can plan to visit both theese place

“Great of a large catchment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

I think the previous "poor" review was a little too harsh. The guards do not let people get right above the dam for security purposes, and for your own safety.

It must have been probably made clear to the visitors that we will only be allowed to get views of the beautiful and large catchment, which was enjoyable.

Wear a hat and take some water with you if it's a hot day. And tell your driver to park about a hundred meters away from the gate because someone (perhaps illegal) takes a "parking fee" while I really did not see a dedicated parking space out there.

This place is worth a visit if you're on the way, which you will be when visiting the elephant camp.

“Dont go”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

You can only go up to the entrance of the dam - stand there and come back, as authorities do not allow you to walk on the dam. Sheer waste of time.
