“Very nice place... Bananki home stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We, a group of 7 couples visited the place for a 2 night stay. We had the entire home stay for ourselves and it was really a very good experience. The hosts ensured that the food served to us was always hot and the time did not matter at all to them. They also guided us to the nearby sight seeing places as well. They even pack your lunch in case you go a long sight seeing trip.
In short, they are really friendly, they take care of you really well and a good place to have loads of fun.
This is best home stay that I had stayed so far.

We, a family of four, stayed for two nights at Bananki homestay. The hosts were very prompt in tracking our arrival and helping with the road tips. Very helpful. We were given a 4-bed room, really spacious. The linen were clean and fresh. Refreshments and a quick tour of the facility gave us a sense of belonging on arrival itself.
The highlight of our stay was the food they served. As strict vegetarians we were provided select local dishes, very different from what one gets in a restaurant. The host even shared recipes for some of them!
The pathways from the homestay take you to the wooded territories leading to the forest. My son and I enjoyed the walk along those patches where we sighted many birds of the Western ghats. It was a delight to hear the chirps and calls of those birds.
This place is 5 kms away from poet KuVemPu's birth place; we visited the poets ancestral house.
We appreciate the help offered by Ms. Arpitha (host) to send back my son's spectacles, which he lost there, by courier.
Only downside, in our experience, was the lack of amenities for children. Table tennis, Carrom and some outdoor games facility would help in this regard.

Well a lot has already been said about this place and I don't need to add much. I chose this place based on the reviews though it varies from different people and it is indeed was an amazing place. We loved the décor and the place. The place is tastefully done and the owners have taken great pains to ensure that every need of yours is taken care of. When it comes to food, I have no words to describe it, they have the best Malnad cuisine I have never tasted akki roti, chicken curry, fish fry so tasty. Arpita and Rachan were very friendly and at our service at any point of time. Thanks a tone for that. Next time I'm in thirtahalli’ I'll stay here again.

Room Tip: Talk to the hosts for knowledge into local culture and traditions.

I'm rating this as poor as it needs a lot of improvement. I would still say its a nice place to stay. We stayed in this home stay as its close to Sringeri, Agumbe and Horanadu. We had a short stay of just 1 day.

Location: Its located around 10 or 12 kms from Thirtahalli towards Koppa. I think it would be better the home stay owners put a sign board on the main road. Also would be good if google maps is updated to show this location.

Reservation: There are mobile numbers you can call and book. But it would have been better if they encourage email response instead of sms for crediting the advance amount.

Food: We got a very tasty food packaged for Sringeri. It was very nice. We expected the same quality for dinner. But we were disappointed. The dinner was late and not good. It was malnad type but the taste was horrible. I think they had some problem with the cook. Surprisingly the breakfast was good. It would have been better if they had made some common items like
chapatti, raita etc along with the malnad food items. Food is a major contributor to the quality of home stay. So more items and high quality needs to be maintained at all times.

Rooms: There are a few rooms in the main house. We chose a cottage. The cottage is not independent. Its got three separate rooms. Its a short walk from the main house. There are few other bigger cottages I guess for bigger families. The main house is very nice but the cottages are bad. I would say it doesn't make you feel like you are in a luxury home stay.

Here are a few improvements needed:
- The floor has lot of unknown gradients. So we need to be very careful
- The size of the room is too small
- Not enough tables to keep things
- No dressing table. The mirror is above the cot
- The bathroom fittings need to be better.
- The bath area is not well planned
- The design of the rooms lacks privacy. The window is beside the door. There needs to be thicker curtains atleast.
- The bolts on the door are also very hard and not easy to use.

Price: We were charged on per head basis. So two of us had to pay Rs.2000 per head including food. Rs. 4000 for a day's stay at bananki is not value for money. Its costly for the facility and the luxury you get. I expected a lot more.

Garden: There's a nice garden with lot of flowers. One can enjoy a short morning walk. I think this can be further more expanded. When there are many guests it would make sense to make a pathway into some plantation nearby.

Power problem: There are constant power cuts in this area and the home stay has done lot to provide backup power. A better solution needs to be found for this issue.

Some simple things that are missing:
- A calling bell to call the home stay service people or the owners
- A mechanism to call for help from the cottages. May be some sort of a calling bell
- Lighting... In the evening, the lighting around the home stay can be improved
- Breakfast/Dinner Time... Home stay needs to have a little more flexible time for the breakfast and dinner. Some like to have it early and some late.
- Dining area... The design is nice but needs to be bigger to accomodate more guests
- The home stay owners need more experience in managing a large group of guests

Room Tip: Ask for a big room

We were a group of 12 and we travelled from Bangalore to thirthalli via chickmagalur. The road was not in the best condition. Bananki was however a very pleasant stay due to the below :
- the place is the same as it looks on the website !
- the family running the homestay is extremely friendly and hospitable
- place is clean and very well maintained
- the service boys are some of the best I have seen in quite some time
- arpita and her mother in law are great cooks ........ We were fed with some of the best malnad cuisine
- lot of good space to do morning and evening walks around the estate
- good advises from Arpita, Rachan & Mr Vijay (rachan's father) on the sightseeing and other details of the places around
- Arpita has eye for detail and is very very focused on client satisfaction. We had one infant in the group and the Bananki family was very accommodative

This is a place we would go back to again and also recommend to others

Room Tip: - the bathroom in the 1st room inside the house has a ventilator on one side which is common to the...
