“Beautiful and tranquil spot.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

After being recommended by a friend we chose to spend a weekend for my husbands birthday, just the two of us to try something different and to test before we took the children. 'camping' has never been high on our agenda.
Absolutely loved it, comfy beds, hot showers and peaceful except for the noise of the wild. Very much enjoyed no internet, TV,mobile and found the candles, wild noises, roaring fire very relaxing. Did not miss electricity at all.
Jonathan was brilliant, checking all was good every morning and readily available by phone if we had problems.
The food we ordered lasted us two days and was well worth the money as it was delicious and would easily feed a family. Much cheaper than choosing to eat out.
We took a peak at Thornham bay, although it has the shop and restaurant, with small children we will return to Pigeon Wood as it is nicely tucked away and enclosed so that the children can also be wild running around and playing the games they kindly leave about for the them to borrow. Absolutely no worries of strangers wandering around or any vehicles. Thornham Bay was lovely but didnt have the views we enjoyed each morning from our tent at Pigeon Wood. We will enjoy trying to guess all the noises of the animals with the children.
There is the honesty pantry which stocked most essentials and a small shop for any other items a 5 minute journey away. We literally turned up with our wine then popped out for a few extras as most things were provided.
If you want a wild (as England gets) yet relaxing stay full of the finer things that generally 'camping' doesnt provide this is the place to be. Ideal family location.

Room Tip: In the colder seasons take extra blankets for the beds, although they do provide hot water bottles...

We have just spent a long weekend at Pigeon Wood, with friends, and loved every minute of it. Great accommodation, ideal for four adults. Plenty of logs to get the range going for a cupppa in the morning, and roast dinner on Sunday evening! The onsite store is an excellent idea - especially when we ran out of wine in the evening, it was well worth seeing my friend in his wifes pink spotty poncho disappearing off in the rain to purchase some more. Excellent farm shops locally - Thornham and Heacham. We took the extra option for bedding, breakfast pack and the Wild Beef casserole, all of which were perfect. Having read previous reviews, the owners have really listened and addressed some of the ideas or issues raised, we found everything there that we needed or wanted....... Can't wait to return for another stay.

Good location, superbly appointed accommodation, but delivered without the finesse or WOW factor. It's like going to a great restaurant eating a good meal, but being let down by average service. It's the little things that let our trip down - the things that mean you'll find it hard to recommend, or make a return trip. We'd spent a week in a cottage near buy before we glamped. This accomodation was better and had the potential to be more rewarding but it missed the mark. When you buy at the top of the market you expect more care.

Room Tip: Read the small print carefully. You'll be charged for every extra, which over a weekend could a...

Oh dear! Having very amiably discussed matters on the phone, I accept that we did not meet the “mint on the pillow” experience you were hoping for. However, I am pleased that despite this you found the location and facilities ‘wonderful’ and would consider returning to Wild Luxury. Clearly we failed in the communication department particularly as you were early risers and we missed speaking to you the morning after arrival and on departure day which was very unfortunate. We have already looked at how we can ensure this doesn’t happen to any guest in the future.

In regard to your extras, a fully loaded wheelbarrow of seasoned wood for your private fire pit costs just £9.50 which reflects a minimal mark-up. We always provide free wood for stoves and the communal bonfire at Pigeon Wood Hideaway. The Wild beef casserole at £20 is also reasonable but I accept we should be clearer on whether this will feed four hungry adults or a young family. As for the noise from the corn dryers, they are almost 2 miles away and were only running later due to the difficult 2012 harvest.

I have spoken to other guests at the time of your stay who were very happy but appreciate that it was down to us to meet your expectations so thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We are proud of what we do and will think again about how we get it right for everyone.

Regards

Jonathan

This was our second visit to Pigeon Wood which didn't disappoint and we shared a lovely weekend with friends despite the weather. There's lots of space for the kids and dogs to run around freely without the worry of cars. Our lodge was clean and the duvets and pillows smelt crisp and fresh. We were slightly disappointed that we had to pay extra for a fire pit this year and got charged for the dog!

Many thanks for your lovely review and despite the weather I'm glad you had a brill time. We haven't started charging for the private firepits just the wood in advance as some thought it was free last year...(?!) Hope to see you all again for your third visit next year. Best wishes Wild Luxury

Just got back from the bank holiday weekend and had a really lovely time. I went with a friend and we both had little ones. Weather was quite chilly, but that didn’t stop us having a laugh – we just kept the Aga fully stoked up.

The whole tent, fixtures and fittings were of a very nice standard and sleeping accommodation was both plentiful and extremely comfortable.

The place was very relaxing and the kiddies had a vast amount of space to run around. And there was plenty to see and do locally.

Carrie popped around each day to see if all was well and to answer any questions we had – mostly about the Aga, having never used one before – so that was truly very helpful. But, having said that my friend produced some sterling evening meals on it!

I live in a little village 20 minutes away from the camp site but for our 5 years olds we could have been on another planet. And the bonus was not once did we get “are we there yet”.

A lovely weekend – thank you.

Room Tip: Take woolley jumpers in case the weather isnt what you expected.

My friend & I have just returned home from Pigeon Wood, all be it 25 miles away (we wanted to avoid the 'are we there yet' from the kids & as it was only a long weekend & we hadn't lived in the area for long so still lots of new areas to explore, we thought Pigeon Wood was perfect) We had a fantastic weekend & found everything we needed in our 'tent'. We loved the challenge of starting the fire every day & got it down to a fine art even though neither of us had done anything like that before. Our children loved all of the outdoor space to run around in & visiting the chickens. They were so excited to find eggs in the morning one day. The children made friends with the neighbouring children & got lots of fresh country air. With children the only tip I would say is to take something familar from home for bedtimes as they both got a little scared from the sound of the wind & rain that was around at bedtime. We did & it helped alot to settle them. The beds are so comfy & warm & yes it got cold at night but under the duvets you wouldnt know. Carrie came to check on us each morning & was very friendly & offered advise on the area for local events going on. The cool box was great & we fitted all of our fresh food in there, however in summer or for a longer trip we would of made full use of the local shops as I wouldn't liked to of kept anything longer than 2 days in there just for food safety reasons but we did visit Bircham Mill for some fresh bread & enjoyed bacon sandwiches for breakfast on our last morning. We have decided to revisit & make it a regular weekend away every year in May because we had so much fun.

Just came back from a weekend away for my 21st. All i can say is it was amazing. Milly (one of the staff) was very helpful. They helped us with our luggage to the safari tents ( as it was a bit muddy) from then she gave us really helpful information.

The tents are immaculate. Very clean. It is defiantly "Glamping" at its best. They provide all the kitchen utensils you will need, hot water bottles ( we defiantly used them) fire wood, etc. The shower was great.

If you are looking to get away for a few days or a week this is great. You also get 10% discount at the farm shop just at the entrance of wild luxury. The food is delicious. Great to buy fresh fruit, juice and bacon to have in the morning while someone else is starting the fire!

When leaving you will become an expert at starting fires!

They have a cute little honesty shop with marshmallows, toilet roll, baked bean etc so if you need to you just sign it out and pay at the end.

All in all, amazing time and will defiantly be returning for a longer stay.

A visit to Thornam Bay is a MUST!
Also once they found out it was my birthday I was surprised one day with a birthday cakes, card and two bottles of Cava from the team at Wild Luxury.

Great holiday, great people
