“Not just a day attraction”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

We were a group of six which visited this place in April 2013. Reviews and pictures were good, so we decided to pass by Dalhousie and came to Khajjiar directly from Pathankot for a 2 day stay, in spite of some people remarking that this was not a place to stay in the night. And boy, how right we were!
It was raining intermittently when we reached. Everyone of us was amazed at the wonderful sight which was very different from what we had ever seen in India, and in spite of the fact that I and my wife Sushmita had seen pictures of this place on the net earlier.
The real fun, for us, were the early morning walks on the meadow and near the lake, as also on the road that skirted the meadow. The deodar trees were a treat to watch. In fact, many like us can stay long at this place by just absorbing the tremendous beauty that is at store there.
Not many hotels, and that is because people still treat this as a fun place to visit in the morning to return back when the sun sets. That, according to me, is the biggest folly they make.

“Is it India”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2013

Out of nowhere you find a green meadow with a small pond in the middle amidst tall deodar trees. You wonder is it India, but you look around you realize it is India. One fourth of the perimeter is converted to parking space. The small hill at the edge has many small eateries. There are too many vendors selling snacks, ice creams, tea etc.,. Then there are photographers and people with costume and rabbits. Worst is - there are dustbins everywhere including near the middle of lake, yet you can see people littering around. We manage to spoil whatever we get from nature. Hope the degradation of the place stops here.
Despite all these, this place is beautiful. You spend a day without realizing how the time flies. It will be one of the very few places in India, which is picturesque in every angle you click. We clicked 300 snaps and some of the family pictures are one of the best we have.
Hope someone regulate construction, parking and keep this place clean; If it has to remain a 'mini Switzerland'.

“Didn't meet expectations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

Had a huge expectation of this place from what I have heard and seen in pictures but in reality I was dissapointed.
This is mainly due to almost no maintenance from HPTDC.
Inspite of this one can spend hour or two on the lush green meadows and forests without even knowledge of the time passing by.

“Just passing through”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

This is just a passing through from Chamba to Delhousie, but suddenly this big lush green meadow, folks riding horses and the effort to do a bit of the Alps and you just want to start singing Julie Andrews and the Hills are alive... Its a little surprise... Stay? not really sure why? Its pretty... and unique to India... but carry on...

The Khajjiar lake is just a pond with huge lush green meadows bordered by forests with lots of facilities ranging from horse riding to para sailing. A honeymoon spot.
