“A nice place to stay ...”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

A nice place to stay for travelers on the Ruta 40 journey. Conveniently located just outside the north entrance to Malargue. A 6 hour drive at a relatively leisurely pace (by Argentina standards) from either Mendoza to the north or Chos Malal to the south. Includes pool/spa, security safes, TV and free WiFi, covered parking, refrigerators, air conditioning, and very good breakfast included. Absolutely quiet. Hotel is being upgraded. Management seems relatively new, is doing their best, and is very responsive. About an hour away from Las Lenas, which is a good one-day side trip for summertime travelers, with good day hiking options.

We stayed at the Microtel several nights. The rooms are clean, large, and comfortable with a large window that opens to a forest. We like not being locked in.
The hotel restaurant is good for dinner, however the breakfast food disappeared quick and was not replaced consequently we did not have much to choose from some mornings.
The front desk service is not O.K., they are not very service oriented...but if you are patient with them they improve in time.
The pool is large and heated (great!) but the chlorine can be smelled down the hallway.
This is the best choice in Malargue.

I wanted to ski Las Lenas ski resort but couldn't find lodging at Las Lenas that allowed for stays less than a full week. The solution was Malargue which has about a half dozen decent hotels and just a nice easy 45 minute shuttle away from the slopes. I went with Aires De Libertad ski shuttle in Malargue which charged $13 round trip for the shuttle service. They do pick up at the Malargue hotels. Herman, the owner is real nice and extremely helpful.

The hotel itself is self contained. It has an indoor pool, jacuzzi, a nice restaurant and bar, free internet, and very relaxing lobby. The hotel is currently expanding in the back with cottages and additional rooms. It is quiet, secure and well maintained. The staff spoke limited English but were very helpful in securing my ski discounts. Malargue hotels have a promotion with Las Lenas - stay at Malargue hotels and ski rental and ski lift tickets are discounted 30% and 50% respectively. The hotel will give you a voucher.

About the only negative I had was that at night I could here a baby crying at times. I think it was coming from upstairs. It was no longer a problem for me, a light sleeper, when I applied my ear plugs. But overall, this is a very good altenative to Las Lenas.

  • Liked — accomodation for skiers
  • Disliked — thin walls

We stayed in the Microtel for one night on two separate occasions. We paid $80 CDN/US for the place, the most expensive accommodation on the trip, double every other place we stayed.

The air conditioning is centrally controlled and on both nights didn't seem to work. The first night the window in our room had been painted shut, so we couldn't get relief from fresh air. On the second night, we could open the window, but that sent in a swarm of mosquitoes. We closed the window, but the temperature in the room continued at 25' C. I went down to reception to ask them to turn it down and the temperature went down to 24.5'C. It was just too hot for two people from Canada.

Other places we stayed for half the price were better. The Microtel is the only "real" hotel in the city. It's surrounded by trees because all of Malargue is developed down the main road and almost everyone has trees behind their buildings.

The breakfast was decent and included in the price, but Argentine breakfast is very simple anyways, so a nice breakfast there is all relative.

  • Liked — the bed was good
  • Disliked — the air conditioning wasn't good for the price point
