“Great B&B!”
Reviewed August 29, 2011

The view was unforgettable and the town of Dinan with all kinds of tastiness is a short drive away. The owner was very helpful and kind. Get a room upstairs for the view (be aware that there is no elevator though).

We stayed for three nights in this fine b&b and were completely happy with the hospitality.
In French or in English they try to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
We will absolutely contact them first whenever we will come back to Bretagne.

The greatest thing aboiut this hotel is the stunning views over the Rance estuary. The bedroomn was well equipped with modern styling and very clean. Breakfast was included in the price and provided a lot of choice (croissants, bread, cheese, fruit, coffee etc). There were intersting walks to the nearby port and we were shown a useful short cut to get there by the owner. The only slight detraction was the electricity which went off for a few minutes just as we were going to bed. But it was no big deal and that apart, I would be happy to go back for a longer stay - this time we just used it as a stopover on our way to the ferry at St Malo

we came over to see the start of the TDF 2011 stage start from Dinan, as we had decided to bike it over wanted a cycle friendly place to stay and that is exactly what this B&B is. Beautiful location with magnificient views over the River Rance.
Its an ideal bolt hole for cycling, walks and general exploration.
Here are tips if cycling from St Malo Adrian the owner suggested taking the Greenway from Dinard but my son wanted to test his new carbon bike so we came over the roads the route is up and down however the roads are silky smooth and great views enroute I have never felt so safe on a bike with courtesy never seen in the UK by car drivers.
this is about 18miles and can be hard on the legs funnily the only complaint was my TomTom couldnt see the road its on but not their fault btw Rue De Grippas is called the D12.
Once we got there Mae Vu(hope its spelt right) was brilliant and very helpful she told us the local routes and restuarants theers two basically to choose from price wise I think the Pub/ restaurant was better value and great ex pats kept us talking through the night thank you the Judge (yes he is a judge) and Percy the Builder.
Ok the walking/ cycling route to Dinan is basically turn left and follow the path till you reach the bridge turn right into the little curbved road past the lock keepers cotatges (blue shutters) and you are on the greenway path to Dinan about 4 Miles the surface is smooth and even with slick tyres on our bikes was suitable.
On the way there the river should always be on your left. Very nice it is too.
or You can turn right a few hundred meters and you see a steep downhill path follow it down and turn right and you are on the same green way.not suitable for old /infirm or road bikes.
Dinan is a little town and do able in aless than a day.

Ok going back to the other way as suggested by Adrian the owner from St Malo on bikes.
From the Britanny Ferry exit and follow the path going left past a couple of roundabouts and Condor Ferry terminal past the reduced width road and you will come across the little boat ferry to Dinard costs €4.50 each and bikes are €3 and comes every 15 minutes from my understanding this however saves the dual carriageway and hills so recommended.
You will land on a small jetty in Dinard take a left join the roadfollow a little while and just after a angled T_junction turn right into Rue de Garethis is quite a steep road but safe in any case at the top you should find a small convenience store turn left and go till the hotel Azzizes I think across from it you will see wasteland and a dirt track follow this it turns into compacted shingle or railway matter you should see a little sign with Green bike route you are on your was just keep going following this path it turns into a smooth dust path the only annoying thing is this path crosses roads and drive ways every few miles and you have to stop the thrills to cross over there are gates but always a side path through so can be travelled at any time very quiet and just nice and flat with very little in way of climns.
My fully laden pack horse did it in 1.15 for the 13 miles roughly.
You arrive on the D57 road turn left across the path is a Watertower if you want a landmarkturn left and travel about 1.5 miles and you will be at the junction with La Hisse and if you turn right and travel a few hundred meters on the right is this b&B however if you want to travel straight to Dinan carry on and after the downhill curved road you will be at the point decsribed earlier for going to Dinan.

Please note that the book by GH Randall called Britannys Greenways is a waste of time and describes where this route ends as where it meets the new railway line WRONG a long away from it am sure the writer has not ridden this course.I wanted somewhere to let people know this as I only found the St Samson Sur Rance with the help of Mae Vu who cycled with me and knocked on doors to find this so another plus point for recommending this B&B Breakfast was adequete and filling.

The bedrooms are large very clean and superb shower.
Wifi info is offered as a default you dont have to beg for it.

The view from the bedroom was wonderful and the building was clean, modern with a nice garden at the back. There was a good restaurant just down the road, and it wasn’t too far to drive into Dinan. Breakfast was OK with a healthy selection of fruit, cheese and bread. My only complaint was when the lights went out and there was no power in the bedroom - very disturbing if you are just stepping out of the shower at nighttime. The owners were very helpful and apologetic and did their best to fix the problem quickly and, so I guess that’s just one of those things.

...I feel its important to preface that this B and B appears to have changed hands recently and most of the other reviews relate to a different couple who were running it for some years...

Found this B and B easily enough on the road out of DInan and on to La Hisse. As expected the property was picturesque and featured a wonderful view onto the Rance river below. We were welcomed by a slightly confused lady who explained that she didn't think there were more guests due but however was able to show us to a nice large bedroom on the top floor. We then ran into the proprietor Adrian out in the garden. All was fine until later that night when we were on our way to bed after exploring Dinan and in the quiet of midnight I was certain I could hear some slight noise outside our door. There were other guests staying across the landing in the only other top floor room but we heard them go to their room earlier and I hadn't heard any door opening since.

After a delay of a minute or more listening I decided there was definitely some occasional movement outside and decided to unlock and check the landing, at which point someone bolted away in the dark down the stairs, stopping only when I shouted after them. It turned out to be Adrian, who returned mumbling some excuse about needing to access the attic from the landing to sort a water pump problem (in the dark...with no flashlight...at midnight). He continued to apologise and insist it was a genuine misunderstanding and opened and spent some minutes rattling around in the attic. We tried to ring around for alternative accommodation at that stage but found nothing (Saturday night, on a bank holiday weekend!) so opted to lock up and suffer a very uncomfortable nights sleep.

We left early the following morning (before breakfast) and met Adrian outside in the garden who now starting explaining some story about how he actually needed to access a fuse box because he had tried to turn on heating the previous night and would have needed access to a locked area off our bedroom but didn't want to disturb us (the heating was on in our room for whatever thats worth). It was all very irrational and disturbing, as I stated to him but it didn't seem to sink in so we left....and I wouldn't wish a night like that on any guest!

We had a very spacious room with a great view over the Rance estuary: The room was comfortable modern and very peaceful: Difficult to find the hotel at first, but lots of interesting places to walk to nearby, including a nice restaurant just along the road. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, not particularly French, but served in a room with a great view. Would strongly recommend
