I booked a 2 bedroom apartment for me and my 9 yr old niece for 4 nights in July. We were upgraded to a 3 bedroom which was very roomy, and 2 storeys, the top floor was all master bedroom and ensuite with a balcony view to the river. Was a lovely peaceful quiet place to stay, we had 4 days of sun. (Were in the region for 10 days and had 10 days of sun and 18-24 temps).
There is certainly plenty to do and the thing we enjoyed most around the resorts was the cycling, kids bikes are free from Novotel, adults are $8 hour but he let me have it for 2 hours. Was a lovely flat, car free easy place to cycle and easily filled in 2 hours.
I did have a couple of problems. One was the location, fantastic if you had a car but we caught buses everywhere. So we had to walk to the front of Novotel which took a good 5 mins with a 9 yr old. We had to catch the hourly shuttle from there to the bus stop. Then you can catch the bus south to Sunshine Plaza (20 mins) or north to Noosa (40 mins). On your return you can phone when you arrive and they will come and pick you up, which works in the day time but wasn't that satisfactory at nite for a women & child. I did risk it one nite and struck a lovely bus driver that phoned ahead for us. Was only 8pm when we arrived but very dark (dark around 5.30pm in July). The other nite we caught a taxi from Sunshine Plaza and it was $28, so a cheap meal becomes more expensive.
We did manage but was not without hassles. You have to be very organised!
The apartment itself (105) was large and very comfortable, lovely beds and incredibly comfortable sofa. Would be a great apt for summer but wasn't so good in winter. It was south facing and didn't get a lot of sun and had the ability to open up very well so would be lovely when it is hot. Wasn't quite so good in July. We had a air con upstairs and down in the lounge. It wasn't working when we arrived back in the first evening, even though the office was closed they did come and help me though, took him 20 mins to get it working. It heated the bedroom upstairs brilliantly, but the whole bottom level didn't warm up very well. Although the days were hot & sunny, clear skies meant we had lows of around 4-5 overnite, and because it didn't get a lot of sun it was just a bit cold for us. There were extra blankets but no heaters. So July is a lovely time to go for the weather but you really need a north facing apt. Other than that the main sink faucet was so wobbly we thought it would fall off. And my shower head had a leak that shot a jet of water out the side which bounced off the shower wall and hit me right in the eyes. And one of the blinds didn't go down. I have told them these things, so hopefully they have all been fixed.
We never ate at Novotel, every night at the main restaurant is a buffet which was very expensive (around $65 I think). The other bar restaurant didn't have a great menu. We did get take out pizza from Novotel's takeaway which were nice pizzas. Otherwise we ate at Toscani's at Sunshine Plaza 2 nights which did very good and well priced meals with good service. We really enjoyed a day at Noosa, was worth going up. We did a little walk from the main beach along the coast of the National Park bit and it has overhanging trees, there was a huge snake (the locals that saw it said it was huge), asleep up in one of the trees. Something different for us from NZ. We went to Australia Zoo one day. We phoned them the day before and organised a free pick up. They picked us up from Novotel at 9.10, we got to the zoo about 10, was a very nice luxury bus. The bus then leaves the zoo at 4pm & they have 5 buses going to all the different areas on the coast so we got back about 4.50pm. Great free service. If you want souvenirs from the zoo I have been told they are much cheaper at their shop at Mooloolaba where all the locals know to go. A DVD at the zoo is $40, $15 at Mooloolaba.
