“Very nice but had its faults”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2009

I booked a 2 bedroom apartment for me and my 9 yr old niece for 4 nights in July. We were upgraded to a 3 bedroom which was very roomy, and 2 storeys, the top floor was all master bedroom and ensuite with a balcony view to the river. Was a lovely peaceful quiet place to stay, we had 4 days of sun. (Were in the region for 10 days and had 10 days of sun and 18-24 temps).
There is certainly plenty to do and the thing we enjoyed most around the resorts was the cycling, kids bikes are free from Novotel, adults are $8 hour but he let me have it for 2 hours. Was a lovely flat, car free easy place to cycle and easily filled in 2 hours.
I did have a couple of problems. One was the location, fantastic if you had a car but we caught buses everywhere. So we had to walk to the front of Novotel which took a good 5 mins with a 9 yr old. We had to catch the hourly shuttle from there to the bus stop. Then you can catch the bus south to Sunshine Plaza (20 mins) or north to Noosa (40 mins). On your return you can phone when you arrive and they will come and pick you up, which works in the day time but wasn't that satisfactory at nite for a women & child. I did risk it one nite and struck a lovely bus driver that phoned ahead for us. Was only 8pm when we arrived but very dark (dark around 5.30pm in July). The other nite we caught a taxi from Sunshine Plaza and it was $28, so a cheap meal becomes more expensive.
We did manage but was not without hassles. You have to be very organised!
The apartment itself (105) was large and very comfortable, lovely beds and incredibly comfortable sofa. Would be a great apt for summer but wasn't so good in winter. It was south facing and didn't get a lot of sun and had the ability to open up very well so would be lovely when it is hot. Wasn't quite so good in July. We had a air con upstairs and down in the lounge. It wasn't working when we arrived back in the first evening, even though the office was closed they did come and help me though, took him 20 mins to get it working. It heated the bedroom upstairs brilliantly, but the whole bottom level didn't warm up very well. Although the days were hot & sunny, clear skies meant we had lows of around 4-5 overnite, and because it didn't get a lot of sun it was just a bit cold for us. There were extra blankets but no heaters. So July is a lovely time to go for the weather but you really need a north facing apt. Other than that the main sink faucet was so wobbly we thought it would fall off. And my shower head had a leak that shot a jet of water out the side which bounced off the shower wall and hit me right in the eyes. And one of the blinds didn't go down. I have told them these things, so hopefully they have all been fixed.
We never ate at Novotel, every night at the main restaurant is a buffet which was very expensive (around $65 I think). The other bar restaurant didn't have a great menu. We did get take out pizza from Novotel's takeaway which were nice pizzas. Otherwise we ate at Toscani's at Sunshine Plaza 2 nights which did very good and well priced meals with good service. We really enjoyed a day at Noosa, was worth going up. We did a little walk from the main beach along the coast of the National Park bit and it has overhanging trees, there was a huge snake (the locals that saw it said it was huge), asleep up in one of the trees. Something different for us from NZ. We went to Australia Zoo one day. We phoned them the day before and organised a free pick up. They picked us up from Novotel at 9.10, we got to the zoo about 10, was a very nice luxury bus. The bus then leaves the zoo at 4pm & they have 5 buses going to all the different areas on the coast so we got back about 4.50pm. Great free service. If you want souvenirs from the zoo I have been told they are much cheaper at their shop at Mooloolaba where all the locals know to go. A DVD at the zoo is $40, $15 at Mooloolaba.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my wife and 2 year old in a two bedroom apartment. The apartment was spacious, very clean and modern, the staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was really comfortable. Could not really fault this place. I'm not sure if individuals run/own each apartment separately, but our aparment had a DVD player along with a bunch of DVD's. The kitchen was large and well stocked for cooking and storing left overs. There was a large pool attached to our apartment block that looked lovely, unfortunately the weather was not, so did not get to go for a dip.
As has been mentioned in other reviews you have free run of the facilities at the novotel. Would suggest you need a car though if you want to leave the resort as it's quite a walk to the closest corner store. It is however a short walk to the beach though. Found a very nice Italian restaurant in the next suburb (Pacific Paradise) called the Olive Tree, highly recommend. Best coffee was in Maroochydore at the Organic Cafe.
All in all a great place to take the family for a break or even if you and your partner wanted to get away for some quiet time.

We are a family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 children. We first stayed here in October 2007 for a 7 night stay. We had a 3 bedroom apartment on the top floor over looking the lagoon. (unit 81). When we walked into the unit and saw the view out to the lagoon with all the catamrans and canoes, it was spectacular - we fell in love with the place.
There was plenty of space in the unit. It was clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was great. The verandah was huge and we used it alot. The only improvement we could have made, would be to have a bbq out there. There is a bbq on the grounds, but you have to take everything down to it. It was a bit of a walk from our unit.
Most of the activites at the resort are free and during school holidays they run games and things for the kids at different times.
We had fun canoeing and catamaraning.
There are a couple of pools and the resort is close to the beach.
We ate some meals at the buffet and one meal at Lily's restaurant - the food and service at both were fantastic.
We had such a great time there, that we went again for a 10 night stay in April 2008 and requested to stay in the same unit. This time we bought with us boogie boards and fishing gear.
On this visit we were a bit disappointed with the food at the buffet. The restaurant was undergoing a renovation, so it was set up in a marque. (we were not told this when we booked). The food wasn't as good and not as much choice. We also had a meal at Lily's restaurant. The food was superb but the service was very slow. We were sitted at 6.35pm and our food didn't arrive until 7.55pm and the 2 younger children recieved theirs after that. The bread we ordered came out in a reasonable time.
Apart from this, we still had a great time at the resort. It was good to have the space and a second tv, as we encountered a couple of days of very heavy rain - but this did not
spoil our holiday, we just made the most of it.
We hope to go back there again one day.

my partner and i have just returned from a two night stay at the apartments. While the apartment was nice, it wasn't as 'special' as i thought it would be. I'd definltey stay here again if we wanted to be away from everyone, but there was no wow factor. It is a fair drive from maroochydore so make sure you have a car, we'd have been lost without one.

My wife and teenage children stayed in a top floor 3 bedroom apartment (unit 82)overlooking the lagoon and the hinterland. The intial service received when enquiring and then checking in was excellent. On entering the apartment WOW!!! Very large, very comfortable furnishings all in good condition. The extra TV & DVD in one of the kids room was an excellent bonus as it kept the kids entertained in the mornings and allowed my wife & I to sleep in. There were over 100 DVD's and videos, Foxtel/Austar, books and family games for our use.

The barbeque on the verandah (overlooking the huge lagoon) was upmarket. The apartment was within the area containing the Novotel Twin Waters. This made it very easy for us to walk along the path around lagoon. We used the Novotel restaurants, cataramans and other waters sports which the kids loved. My wife really enjoyed the day spa and I enjoyed the golf.

My wife and I were able to have relaxing walks around the Maroochydore river and on the beach.

The best thing about the apartment was that after using the Novotel resort facilities we were able to return to space , luxury and great features, lie on the deck and look at the Novotel in the distance with their traditional hotel rooms. They certainly don't have properties and the range of close by activities like this in NSW.

A very enjoyable and exciting time was had by all. We will be going back.

Great loctaion, close to shops, golf, take away foods and just a 2 ninute walk to all the facilities at the main resort.
This is my 3rd time here the last 2 times with extended family this time by myself for some R & R.
The apartments are very well appointed with most nights spent reding sitting on the balconey overlooking the lake.
Staff are there if you need them but keep out of your way.
Really like this place and know others will not be dissappointed

I stayed here for 2 nights in Jan 2009 and quite liked this apartment. However, I encountered a foul sewage smell in the bathroom of the master bedroom and although the facility manager promptly turned up at my door 5mins after my call the problem was still not solved the next day despite his having people to come and try to solve it. Also, the floor was quite sticky when we first arrived and it seemed like it had not been scrubbed for some time.

However, the surroundings and the modern apartment still left a favourable impression on me and I would stay here again if I were to visit Sunshine Coast in the future.
