“Great place to stay”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We stayed here for a couple of nights en route from SW France to Denmark. Our room on the ground floor was stunning and the bathroom had its own private hamman.
We decided to have dinner here both nights, you must pre-book though, and it was superb. There is no choice of food but each course was delicious and served with great wines. Really good value!
The location is lovely and the gardens run down to the river. The hosts are really helpful but do not speak much English so some basic French is helpful.

Room Tip: The ground room with the hamman is large and there are no stairs which may be helpful to some travel...

Thanks Jean-Pierre and Bruno for a fantastic stay. The chateau is magical - beautiful location, gardens and rooms. The food was excellent and the service second to none - we have never been so well looked after. We will definately be back!

The chateau is on the Marne, so it's a perfect place to use starting a tour of the Champagne area. The room was decorated with period furniture, was not overcluttered, but done just right. The bathroom had a steam-bath. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The hosts are charming and very nice. Dinner at a common table for the guests (table d'hotes) was a huge value for money (30 Euro with wine), and an opportunity to get to know some people. Everything about this place was right!

My wife and I had one night here on our journey to SW France 30th May. Easy drive from Calaise and located easily, although getting through the gates is a squeeze!
Other reviews sum up the place nicely. It is adjacent to a road, but bedroom overlook the garden and we had no noise issues from the quiet road.We enjoyed a stroll along the river bank in both directions and the gardens are also lovely. Some flower beds had been recently planted with bedding plants and would add to the effect once in bloom.
Our evening meal was delightful. No choice, but that is the fun. As it happens, the main course was a rabbit creation and I love rabbit. Four courses including a super cheese, plus aperitive champers, wine flowing throughout, for Eu 30 was great value.
Jean-Pierre was the chef, waiter and host for the evening. he was also on duty for the morning breakfast which was again splendid and taken with other guests from USA and Germany. So it was good to discuss various matters with them over our extensive choice of traditional French breakfast goodies plus a few extras like yoghurt.
We will be back when passing anywhere near here, or needing somewhere to stay for a few nights to explore this area east of Paris.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in this large and welcoming Chateau. We had booked it as a birthday treat and so were hoping for something special, and indeed it was. A grand building with beautifully maintained grounds and gardens, a welcoming host and a very large and clean room which we thoroughly enjoyed making ourselves at home. Our particular room even came complete with its own hummum - a novelty that we'd never before experienced! Breakfast was just wonderful, and we even required gluten free catering which the host was most lovely in graciously providing and then sending us on our way even complete with the leftovers! The gardens are beautiful to sit and take it all in, the bird song is very relaxing, and the stay was immaculate. Highly recommended if you are passing through the area on the way to the Champagne region
