I'll split my experience in two parts.
1) Pre-safari: This is the tough part and actually saps you badly. There are three types of safari-by Jeep (Gypsy), minibus (20 seater canter) and elephant ride. We went in the last week of Oct and only the Jeep ride was available. The safari happens twice a day - Morning 6.30-10am and noon 2-5pm. The tough part is doing the booking. A permit needs to be taken for every vehicle that is let into the jungle. When we visited, 60 vehicles per session were being let in. So you have to reach the booking office early and get the vehicle permit. For the morning safari you have to reach as early as 4am and for the afternoon safari, you have to reach by 8am for getting the permit. Permits are not given to locals and you have to produce your id card for getting it.
Another sore point is that in today's internet age, online booking facility is still not available (A website exists: http://www.corbettsafari.com/; But its not functional). This has led to a nexus between the booking officials, brokers and hotel guys. On this website you will find the rate of Jeep mentioned as Rs.3500, but you actually get charged Rs.4500 with the extra Rs.1000 being split equally between the broker and the hotel. This is something that pinches after standing in the queue for more than 2 hrs for getting the permit.
I hope the officials take the necessary steps and make this process easy and transparent to people asap.
2) Safari: Safari is really good. We were not able to spot any animals other than deer and peacocks. However, the guide kept us entertained with statistics and stories of tiger spotting. The jungle is very peaceful and serene and the overall experience was good
