“Dikhala Forest Rest House”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

I and wife stayed at Dikhala Forest Rest house on the 12 and 13 Dec 2012. The rest house experience is just wonderful. The location is in thick jungle. Dikhala is the prime zone where Wild life is seen. The rest house staff was very courteous and helpful. The food served in the dinning hall was excellent . Good variety and sumptuous. We had good sighting of wildlife..

Our birdwatching group stayed here while birding Corbett National Park. It was late November, and the rooms were unheated. There was no hot water, as the elephants had destroyed the main power line, and the generator would not support the water heaters. There was power only in the early morning and from 5:30 to 10 PM. After the power went off at night, there was no water at all. The rooms were squalid. My towel had threads hanging from it, and my wife's had a big hole in it. The bed linens were so grungy that we slept fully clothed and put clean tea shirts over the pillows because we didn't want our faces touching the pillow cases. The rooms were not cleaned while we were there and didn't look as if they had been from some time. The bathrooms in reception had no windows, but the lights were out; the toilets didn't flush, and the floors hadn't been mopped in years. If you are visiting Corbett, stay outside the park and do day trips into it.

The Dhikala forest lodge is situated inside the jungle . Entry is through the dhangadi gate . We were told that November is not a good time to sight tigers , so we just went with no expectations to spot tigers , just enjoy wildlife . We saw many deer , sambhars and also got to enjoy an elephant safari in the morning .
While we were combing the adjoining jungle , the tiger , sauntered towards the gate of the resort and lied down near the gate ! when the jeep safaris returned , the first two jeeps got to see the tiger near the gate of the forest lodge. This is just to drive home the point that this is as deep in the jungle as you can get
The forest rest house also has a viewing point , from where we could see the ramganga reservoir and we also could spot a tiger going towards the water in the evening
and also heard it roaring in the night , so that was a surreal experience
We also spotted many deer [ about 100 ] at the banks , and they were prancing about and running which looked very beautiful
To expect any kind of luxury in the middle of the jungle is unrealistic . We stayed in the annexe rooms , and the beds were clean, and the canteen service was good . The food was good and th people are very hospitable and helpful
Elephant safaris have waiting lists so the earlier they are booked , the better chances of getting them
Having a knowledgable guide is essential. there are guides available at the reception office .
We booked our reservation by sending a fax to the field director's office almost three months in advance .
The rest houses are priced a bit steep though , but it is worth the experience

Dhikala forest rest house is a good experience all in all.

Room Tip: the annexe rooms are slightly better

We are regular visitors of Jim Corbett and most of the time staying at Dhikala. This is inside 32 KM from Main Gate. The best season is between Early March to April End. This is centrally located area having both forest and grass land. Grass land is full of different types of deers, wild boars, langurs, elephants and above all the great Indian Tigers. We have spotted 4 tigers in a day at different locations and did the photo shoot or video. Almost in every visit we spotted tiger(s) and did not get disappointed except 1-2 occasion. Thandi Sarak is the most suitable location to see a tiger. What a beautiful beast it is. The river flowing along with the resort is awesome and you may watch heard of elephants doing bath.
The facilities are not of high class. Rooms are average, having dim light. Food quality is average but little bit expensive. However, you can't expect much of the facilities inside the jungle. At night tiger roaring fill the adventure in the mind. If you are wild life lover and that too for Tiger must visit and stay at Dhikala atleast for 2 nights. Good spotting of tiger is guaranteed.

Room Tip: Book the tour from Delhi, they are having package and relatively have better rooms.

This is the must visit part of the Jim Corbett national park.Although, travelling here is a bit tiresome, it's worth.Go for morning as well as evening safari here. Its situated right in the Middle of the forest, but the food and the services are very nice.Spotted tigers, sambhar, wild elephants, spotted deer, peacock, wild boar, and exactly 57 types of birds that I could list.According to me the elephant safari is not worth, but the jeep safari is definitely.

Room Tip: Choose a knowledgeable guide, as spotting animals is difficult without a good guide and driver. Do...

We booked forest guest house through private agent(Garhawel Himalayan Expedition,NewDelhi).
The rooms were Big,Neat with a new air cooler. The travel from the entrance to the guest house itself was very thrilling!!. We went by a Gypsy Car for sight seeing inside the forest. The Gypsydriver named Shakeel knew the forest well.
We were able to see plenty of rare Birds, Monkeys, Deers, Elephants(We were chased by a wild Tusker while taking the photo). We drove away from the place. Morning & Evening Gypsy safari was worth. We went for morning elephant ride, good experience sitting on a huge beast.
Delicious food, Good service, very curtious staff.

You can not expect better service and facilities in the middle of the forest. This place has every basic facility that we need during our excursion trips to such wildlife forests. Its has amazing view of the forest and provides the best chances to trace the most wanted cats !!
Food in the canteen is good and very reasonalble in terms of cost.
Best place to stay if you are visiting Jim Corbett.

Room Tip: The ones which were used by Mr. Corbett himself are better and spacious ones with nice view of the l...
