“RELAXING AND REJUVENATING”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

I stayed at The Wild Crest in January 2012 with family and friends and again in January 2013 with a group of 50 people from our office. The most attractive thing about this property is its sheer size. The place is spread in around 5 acres of land and the landscaping, which has been personally looked into by the owner and his wife is worth a mention. We really enjoyed soaking in the winter sun and gazing at the star filled clear sky with a bon fire to boot. The resort does not face the river which was just a trickle but is just five minutes away. The Wild Crest has cottages which are spacious and also rooms next to the pool.Ask for cottages if you do not want any human intervention.Although I did not use the pool but some people from our group who dared the winter chill found the pool water to be highly chlorinated. The service and cleaning were satisfactory, the food offered variety but has scope for improvement. A sound proof discotheque is there for dancing enthusiasts and jungle safaris are also arranged for.Overall a pleasant experience!

Room Tip: Opt for the cottages.

The roomes were satisfactory but the service was terrible. They have absolutely no sense of keeping the customer happy. As soon as the our check out time reached, we were asked to leave rather harshly and repeatedly. Even the swimming pool is loaded with tonnes of chlorine that would only add to the dismay! So its a big NO-NO!!

Room Tip: Room Nos. GP 7 & 8 are much larger than the rest!

We stayed there for 2 nights ( 13th and 14th July, 2012 ) with 4 other friends. We booked this from Delhi and yes, the tariff is negotiable.... Very hard bargaining required... We reached in the afternoon and we used the pool. I felt the water sticky and was not very clean... it was also smelling very stiff with chlorine. I am not sure, they have an efficient recycling facility of changing the water in the pool. The room size is quite big and has all facilities except a room fridge. The towels, mattresses were looking very aged.... The room is cleaned every morning. The lawns look lush... but we could not sit there due to lot of mosquitos and flys. One big group of 32 persons from Netherlands ( students ) checked in the evening and another big group from Bengal also checked in... The resort was full to the brim! The food reminded me of my college cafeteria days... very basic and palatable... no bother about taste... They could have maintained the cafeteria properly... there were too many flys on the table. The used plates were not removed immediately and that was the main reason for this unkempt condition. I think, this resort gets active during the week ends and perhaps no activities in the week days! We did not go for safaris and therefore, no comments about this. Overall, very disappointing....

Room Tip: may be the cottage rooms

Summary: This resort is okay for large groups who can get good bargain on the tariff and would like to enjoy the swimming pool and the dance parties at nights and not just for the safaris. But not at all good for the ones who are there for a quiet vacation and mainly for the jungle. If safari is what you came to this park for, you should stay at resorts inside the jungle which might arrange safaris to deeper part of the forests where you can see the tiger or take a private jeep safari with your own guide.

Details:
We were at WildCrest in May, 2012. This resort and several others were present outside the jungle. The first impression of the hotel was that they don't have fixed tariff. So people should bargain well. They suggested a family suite for us. The family suite was actually a room with 2 double cots and a single bathroom. I wish we checked that with them earlier. It was really not worth the Rs. 9200 per night (3 adults, 2 kids aged 11 and 15)

Breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner was complimentary

On the first day of our trip, several large families were staying in the hotel, so the kids were unmanageable at all meals. On the 2nd day of our trip, at lunch, 50-60 kids from a school accompanied by teachers came to the hotel. So in the evening, we were told that the snacks are only for the kids! We weren't given any snacks/tea. And so we didn't enjoy the service on both the days. Food tasted okay but we had to clean the plates again with tissues at every meal as there was a dust on them. And because of the large groups, the resort was noisy at all times.

Room services are terrible. There was chewing gum on our blanket (gross!). We opened it up before giving the keys for room service, so they can see it and replace it. But they just folded it back!!! When I asked the attendant to replace the blanket, he said he had some work and he'll do it in the evening. Despite telling him that we just returned from the safari and we wanted to take a nap, he didn't assure us about replacing the blanket. He just said he'll do it later and walked away. After calling the room service twice, we got the blanket replaced.

They charged us Rs 6800 for canter safari (for 3 adults and 2 school going children). When we went to the safari booking counter to aboard the canter, we got to know that the actual price for one person for the safari was 1125 and since we had 2 school going kids, the total tariff for the 5 of us was Rs. 3500. So WildCrest charged 50% for commission. And the safari wasn't worth the price we paid. We went to the dhikala zone and were taken on a paved path till the end. So we just saw some deers and one elephant (hidden by bushes), one crocodile from far. So if safari is your prime interest, you should stay at resorts inside the jungle or take a private jeep safari with your own guide.

So if you plan to go for this resort, at least book the safaris on your own.

While checking out, when we were explaining our experiences about the services, they just didn't care to listen. So they don't intend to improve.

Overall Experience: Bad and I wouldn't go back or suggest this place to any of my friends

Room Tip: Family cottage suite and regular cottage suite don't have much difference in tariff. So if you a...

The Wild Crest is a sizeable facility, with a main hotel and a few "cottages." It is comfortable and very clean, with good beds and great showers (a big plus in India!). The cottages are especially pleasant and private. The buildings are surrounded by pretty, well-tended gardens. The restaurant has decent food; there's no menu -- each day offers a fixed selection of dishes -- but the food is well prepared and the servings are bountiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is not in the immediate vicinity of Corbett Park, and there is little (except a couple of animal skins on the walls, which I could have done without!) to suggest a connection with Corbett, but it's a nice jumping-off spot for a visit to one of India's prime wildlife attractions, and a relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: We particularly liked the cottages.

I found this resort on the internet. I had never visited the area before so decided to research and the webpage for the wildcrest was excellent. We had a room that overlooked the pool and a splendid view of the mountains. The staff were excellent, including Mr. Hari Singh, the owner who was avialable to assist with arranging the jeep safaris. The friendly staff also helped arrange for an elephant ride. Unfortunately elephant safaris are currently unavailable inside the park, but we had a great time riding an elephant for a couple of hours. The jeep safaris were early morning which is best time to see wildlife, but we didn't see a tiger. Have to come back!

The resort has a very nice well maintained pool which we enjoyed every day as the weather was spectacular. The food is is very good and plentiful. Soft drinks and beer is avialable if you want them for an extra charge. They even called our room before they close the buffet. They had local dancers one evening (very enjoyable) and a very bad singer who was so bad it was funny. Rooms are clean, nice furniture, and air conditioned. The grounds are well maintained, with lawns and beautiful flowers. We enjoyed having tea sitting next to a spectacular holihock display.

I will stay here again.
