“A magical honeymoon”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

I feel as though I have stayed in a great number of 5 star luxury resorts worldwide but nothing comes close to the experience one has at Soneva. We stayed at the Soneva for 5 nights for our honeymoon and it was nothing short of magical. To sum up an experience that can't quite be put into words, the food was incredible, the villas are unbelievable and the service you receive it truly world class. The beach is certainly one of the nicest in Thailand, perfect white sands and beautiful blue water. The staff are the warmest, most attentive staff I have encountered in my over 20 years in Thailand. This is by no means a cheap holiday but it is certainly worth saving for. I could not have imagined a more perfect honeymoon then the one we had at Soneva, complete with our gorgeous (and massive) private pool villa with a Bose sound system, to beach side dining fit for royalty, wine in an impressive cellar, and the unique experience of enjoying an outdoor cinema with fantastic cocktails, this was more than we could have imagine. Our Ms Friday, the GM, the Sommelier and each of the Soneva staff made this a honeymoon of a life time. Thank you to everyone, we will be back! (P.s. We went the end of June and had flawless weather!)

Room Tip: We had the hill villa and it felt incredibly romantic, secluded and as though we were partly in the...

Amazing! The best resort ever! I never feel so relaxed before.

Rooms are original and natural, and make you feel close to nature. 2 housekeeping each day

The outdoor cinema was nice. They provide you with drinks and popcorn upon arrival.

Miss Friday will arrange activities for you when you check-in and will give you lots of recommendations. All the staff are nice and friendly.

Don't miss the tree-pod dining, traditional Thai food at Benz and the ice-cream (over 100 choices)! The dinner buffet was good, but not particularly outstanding.

Dear Agnes1130,
thank you very much for writing about your impression of your stay with us on this forum. I am delighted that you liked it so much and that you write so enthusiastically about the many ice cream varieties. They are not quite 100 (yet) but 60 for now. We are adding more regularly and our two latest additions are Bacon and Cream Cheese and also Tomato and Celery.
I hope you will have the chance to visit us again.

Soneva Kiri is nothing short of amazing! I can not fault this resort, nor can i say a bad word about it. It rained for most of our time there, yet we still had an amazing time. We had the all inclusive package. The beach is perfect, warm clear water and white sand, the rooms are very spacious and the food is nothing short of delicious. The staff, especially our Friday always knew where we were in the resort! The really focus on the finer details at Soneva Kiri to make sure your stay is above and beyond everything you want. If you want to stay at one of the best resorts in Thailand, you need to stay here. The story behind the hotel is very interesting, its great to see a hotel using local produce and working very hard to be environmentally friendly.

This is in my top 2 favourite hotels in the world. Simply amazing. So many good things to say about it. The rooms are very original and really comfortable. The indoor space is good with a bedroom and dressing area. Everything else is outside. The private golf buggies were loads of fun and gave you a sense of freedom to move around the huge resort as you choose. I'm not sure how many bungalows they have but it feels like there's enough facilities to support 10 times the amount of guests they have (the hotel was at capacity when we went). The beach is so beautiful, the outdoor cinema was a nice touch, and we loved the ice cream and chocolate room - a simple but nice touch that you wouldn't normally expect to see. The service was impeccable and I could go on for hours about the food - the restaurants were great as was room service where the choice extended to around 50 pages. We're already wondering when we can go back!

For those who just want a few words about Soneva Kiri, I'd say:
O U T S T A N D I N G... run, run, run to this resort which will offer your the experience of your life.
For those who want all the details, find the feedback below:

Arrival:
At Soneva Kiri, be ready for an arrival on style where without any doubt, you'll feel like someone special, like someone who will live an outstanding experience. Usually, this breathtaking resort is using a private plane for a short 1hr flight from Bangkok and this is what we expected. However, nothing is really perfect in the real life and the resort faces some technical problems with their Dornier making us unable to reach Koh Kood on the way we planned. But we would like to congratulate the fantastic Soneva Kiri team for their reactivity and their efficiency to find an alternative solution. They book for us seats on Bangkok Airways to join Trat and then, after a short land transfer, a speed boat was waiting for a 1hr cruise. Actually, it was a quite luxury way to join Soneva Kiri but due to the weather conditions rainy and stormy, it was quite bumpy and has been a challenge for my BF to arrive at destination without being sick. But it was an interesting experience even if we surely prefer to arrive by air at Mai Si, the private Soneva Kiri airport. It seems to be an other plane will be ready soon so if a transfer by sea is not your cup of tea, don't worry too much...

Accomodation:
During our last visit, we truly loved the layout of the Clift Villa offering a very large pool; an oversized terrace and a great room opening on a second pool on a side and on an open en-suite bathroom on the other side. We have decided not to go for an other category this time but due to the low season we have been honored with an upgrade to a Two bedrooms Clift Villa. We didn't use the second bedroom smaller but really convenient for a family or two couples of friends but truly enjoyed the extra space and the private fitness room with Lifefitness equipment and a stunning view on the ocean which is very motivating for your morning exercise.
Nothing more to say about the very natural design and decor turning you into a Robinson Crusoe with luxury standards. We definitively adore the comfort of our villa with plenty of places full of cushions to relax, read a book, have a drink... And the layout of the bathroom is "sexy" with its open air very large bathtub, a small house for sinks, an other one for the dressing area and toilets, one outside shower and an other one equipped with a steam room. simply F A N T A S T I C.

Service:
At Soneva Kiri, right you arrive, you know already you'll be fully pampered by a team of people working with passion and heart. Greatly managed by an ultra professional GM, all of them will have as only objective to make you having the experience of your life. All of the employees of Soneva Kiri are totally adorable and charming, they always have a smile on their face and always ask you on the nicest way how are you. We also appreciate how they're nice to let you go first when you're driving with your own buggy (which is something we absolutely love...) in the resort. Moreover, since Soneva Kiri offers the ultimate in term of luxury SLOW life, you will have your own "Mr or Mrs Friday", a personal butler who will anticipate all your needs and who will always try to make your stay simply memorable. I've been surprised to read a report on TP saying the service is not exceptional cause we always staying in the best hotels of the world including Amanresorts, St Regis, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental... and we found again the service at Soneva Kiri at its top.

Food and Beverage:
WAOUH... each meal is a true pleasure for sense and taste. Very often, this is something a bit neglect in resorts but at Soneva Kiri, the level of food is exceptional. There are plenty of options from a fabulous Beach BBQ (on sundays) offering a selection of the freshest local seafood; a gourmet dinner at The View changing several times a week and using the products of the organic gardens of the resort and the best ingredients; an unforgettable and so yummy Thai dinner at Benz, this wonderful restaurant in the middle of the Mangrove, so romantic and special... And we have not to forget to say a word about the breakfast which is one of the very best buffet breakfast we had.
This time, we have been invited to a private wine tasting by the young and talented Sommelier in the cellar and it was something we will never forget. To fully enjoy of all the fantastic possibilities of the F&B, choose the "all inclusive" option very interesting...

Spa:
The smoothest place in the world to detox and refuel. For years, Six Senses Spas have build a solid reputation for a range of magical treatments. At Soneva Kiri, the spa is simply magnificent looking like a small village isolated in the rain forrest. Sounds, Smells, Views, Touches... All your senses will be at the Nirvana. We both tried a treatment and slept so well which is not happen so often for me. It means the therapists are so professional and so nice and the treatments room superbly designed in the same spirit than the resort. A true indulgence at a price but it so deserves the incredible sensation of well being you will have.

Departure and Conclusion:
Just a few words to conclude and say that Eva Malmstrom and Sonu Shivdasani have created a paradise where staying drives you to the best time of your life. It's a magical resort with an outstanding team of people so nice and professional, with this strong philosophy of SLOW life so respectful of the nature, with this sense of luxury which is to offer to the guests space and natural beautiful decoration... So talking about departure is hard cause all we want is to extend our stay again and again and we have already in mind our next dates for the new visit. Sincerely, THE BEST RESORT OF THE WORLD.

Room Tip: We love Clift Villas for their breathtaking views on the ocean across the trees and the oversized po...

Villas are well spread about the resort so has a lovely feeling of space and privacy.
Very green and jungle like, which although beautiful, had its disadvantages as Mosquitos seemed to home in on me and take full advantage ignoring any bug sprays.
Aside from the bugs, we have no complaints, the staff, food, ambiance, villas where all exellent. It's worth making the effort of the long journey from the Uk.

Room Tip: Cliff villas have super views.

Dear Kirsty L,
thank you for your review and I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay at Soneva Kiri. I am sorry that you have been bitten by mosquitoes. We do undertake necessary measures such as fogging, etc to keep insects under control but given the natural environment we are in, we can never be 100% successful. I hope, though, that this would not deter you from visiting us again.

The resort for the family- you are being picked up in the airport and accompanied through custom and immigration to pick up your luggage. Than on a small plane (8 seaters) on an hour flight to the private airport. A fast boat will take you and your FRIDAY (your personal companion and helper for the entire stay) to the hotel. Try and upgrade to a beach villa as the private piece of sea is important.
The all stay is about kids- free chocolate and free ice cream, open air cinema and the rotation between private and public beaches or pools. There are no TV channels but the DVD library is satisfactory. And of course free wifi all over the island.

Room Tip: Beach Villa

Remote yet accessible, Soneva Kiri sits on Thailand's fourth largest but least populated island, Koh Kood, in the Gulf of Siam. Surrounded by lush, vibrant tropical vegetation and white beaches, fringed with palm trees, the resort has been tastefully and cleverly designed to complement the landscape and blends seamlessly into the outstanding natural beauty. Soneva Kiri epitomises the Soneva concept of 'intelligent luxury'. Only an hour's flight in the resort's private plane from Bangkok, it feels a million miles from the real world. The sense of tranquillity, seclusion and harmony with nature is second to none.
