My second visit to Shantaa and nothing has changed, if so to the better.
Always professional and a sense of details in all aspects.
(Example:
-clean, well maintained room and environment. Unusual for Thailand where resorts look old after a few years.
-staff efficient and always eager to help out. They seem to enjoy their work at Shantaa's.
-when renting motorbikes they prepare them with fresh beach towels and water
-restaurant serves tasty food and it is well worth the price even though someone pointed out that it is more expensive than other restaurants
-beautiful textiles everywhere. The manager brings back dresses from Bangkok for sale)

We have come to the conclusion that Shantaa brings you most for the money in its price range. Especially if you do not mind to rent a motorbike to visit the more beautiful beaches on the island. It is the genuine feeling that the staff really cares about you that does it!

The beach bar serves the same dishes as the main restaurant. It closes early (at sunset). The beach is not the best put they provide you with sunbeds, snorkel gear, towels, fresh water, showers, sand toys and kayaks. Even books and magazines left behind by others.

This time I caught a really nasty bug while in Cambodia. Once on Koh Kood the disease hit its peak and I got really sick. Shantaa got out of their way for me and brought me gentle food, drinks and called the nurse at the hospital on several occasions. They also brought me medicine from the hospital to help me recover. And they wanted nothing in return!!
I am so glad I had chosen to stay at Shantaa's.

The island itself is booming with constructions going on everywhere. But it is still very quiet. The narrow roads carries mostly motorbikes and some resort pick-ups (which drives like crazy).
The large pier at Shantaa is now visited by the Ko kut express. It runs to the mainland once daily and can be an option to the regular speedboats. However it feels a bit claustrophobic and they showed really violent movies on our trip.

A wonderful Island; a magic wonderful resort. This was our first visit to Koh Kood. It will certainly not be the last. Shantaa will certainly be our stay for many more times. The atmosphere, the service, the food, the silence. the kindness, the bungalows, the water, the people, the management, the staff, the beaches; Everything comes togetether and makes it all to a memory for life.

Thank you very much!

See you next time!

We have been there for 7 days during them we visted the island.
Every morning the rich breakfast was very good, and i can say the same for dinner.
We have chosen a sweet room (nr.1) and it was comfortable, big and very well cleaned.
The freshing shower i had every evening was very very re-freshing, but you could also have hot shower in bath tub.
The staff is very polite and helpful.

Wow, Shantaa has got it just right. This place really is the perfect place to unwind and get away from it all. Our villa was immaculate and beautifully & tastefully furnished with a stunning view for the sunsets. The bed was extremely comfortable and the outdoor bathroom was a rather interesting feature!!

The staff are just fantastic and seemed to very very well trained which is quite a rare thing in Thailand from our experience. Nothing was too much trouble. They all seemed to be very happy in their jobs which certainly shines through in their service.

The food is out of this world and I can see why the restaurant here is a destination for visitors from other hotels. The seafood selection is vast. It was recommended that we pre-order our food which we did for our first night (a whole sea bass was just superb!) however for our subsequent nights we found that pre-ordering wasn't always necessary.

The breakfasts are some of the best I have ever experienced anywhere!! It's a very welcome change not to have a buffet laid but instead to take a seat and for the staff to bring you whatever you like from the extensive menu. Fresh watermelon juice and cold water are brought to your table and then you order whatever else takes your fancy. Just perfect.

The hut down by the beach is great for lunch and you can place your order, go back to your sun lounger and then the staff will let you know when it's ready for you to come and eat at the table. A great selection of thai cuisine and western 'comfort food' is available. Free snorkel equipment and kayaks with life vests and waiting for you to try whenever you feel like it.

The beach is just beautiful and well worth taking a walk to get a whole stretch of sand to yourself. The water is crystal clear.

There isn't much to do in the evening i.e. no entertainment or TV but that is part of the magic of Shantaa. It's just the perfect place to totally relax and unwind.

Just got home after a week at Shantaa. We flew into Trad and easily got a speedboat to the Koh Kood pier, where we were met and taken to Shantaa and quickly checked in to our villa. The villas were lovely, very comfortable but not too overdone a la Six Senses, and the resort itself was lovely - very well thought through in that there were not too many villas crammed in to the space so there was always a sense of privacy and relaxation. Lots of places to go off and be alone with your partner, but also nice spots if you fancied some conversation with the other guests (a mix of nationalities, all very nice and friendly). The restaurant is delicious though a little expensive for Thailand, and there are good amenities such as free kayaks and a massage sala. The beach owned by the resort is rocky but OK for a quick dip - but a five minute walk to the other side of the pier takes you to the most beautiful, mostly empty beach with great clear water for swimming.

I had an additional experience worth mentioning. I managed to swim myself into a rock and busted my nose, requiring stitches. The Shantaa management could not have been better - the manageress was there instantly, arranged transfer to Trat to get the stitches done, booked us a night at a Trat guesthouse as there were no more boats back to Koh Kood, even loaned me a Thai mobile to use to call her if I needed anything. She (and the whole staff) were lovely not only during that unpleasant experience but throughout the stay. Someone else here said they felt the staff were stand-offish but this wasn't my experience at all. I can highly recommend Shantaa if you want a quiet relaxing and beautiful Thailand islands experience.

Room Tip: I wouldn't bother with the additional expense of the "sweet" - the villas were just as...

We stayed at Shantaa on Koh kood for a week and had a wonderful time. The bungalow, one of the sweets, was comfortable and very clean, the openair jungle bathroom cool, absence of the TV was relaxing and we could watch the sunset from the sundeck.
The restaurant had a good selection of food and they could cook everything w tofu! the staff was so nice and attentive, always smiling!
we had a massage on the beach and we took the bikes (free of charge) to see the fishing village.
shantaa has a small private beach with a beach bar where you can get a towel and water free of charge, but the beach on the other side if the pier blew us away. It stretches for miles, white sand meeting clear blue water and no people in sight!

this is a place for relaxing.. the restaurant closes at 10pm and there are no bars near by and no TV. Just you and your company :)

I came across Shantaa by chance and was amazed at their rating and just had to check it out for myself.  Which of course meant we went with high expectations, which were met and exceded.

We visited Shantaa in early January 2012 after a wonderful and sometimes hectic tour of Vietnam and Cambodia.  We bought the "honeymoon" package which included transport from Bangkok to the pier at Shantaa.  Our driver was ready and waiting for us when we came down to check out and provided a few DVDs for our journey.  We arrived at the pier in Trat in good time for the speedboat (a must).  There was a little confusion about our boat ticket however when I mentioned "Shantaa package", all seemed to be ok.  After an hour on the boat we arrived at Shantaa and were greeted with wonderful views and warm hospitality.

The owners and staff at Shantaa went out of their way to make us feel welcome but it was never intrusive.  So much so that I have to point out a few:

1) My husband is vegetarian and Shantaa provided amazing veggie options (minus any fish sauce) for each meal including our gourmet teas every afternoon and they even provided us with a beach bag with a vegetarian meal on our snorkelling trip.

2) I had to make a trip to the hospital and after a few questions Shantaa arranged a shuttle and provided me with a note in Thai to give to the nurses.  The shuttle even waited the hour for us to take us back to Shantaa.

Shantaa is a place to lose yourself and leave the rest of the world behind, so if you want a resort with a lot action, then you should visit Phuket.

Recently Shantaa was awarded the Travellers' Choice Award 2012 which was most deserved although I think they should have been #1!
