Reviewed December 19, 2013

We have never been to Koh Kood before. Did find Horizon Resort on internett, did not make any booking, just showed up. We were Lucky, they had one bungalow left...... Could be an ide to make booking before coming. If you want Peace and quite this is the Place to go! Just a peradice! The Food is excellent, the owner very kindly, tha staff too, but they have to learn a litte bit more English, than it would be Perfect!

We really enjoyed our stay at Horizon Resort on Koh kood. The bungalows were clean and spacious with porches looking out to sea and open air bathrooms. The price is reasonable compared to other options on the island and the location is prime. Although there is no beach right in front, there are two public beaches only 5 minutes away. The bungalows are well spaced so it feels very private and the setting is paradise. The restaurant at the resort is ok, there are cheaper tastier options just next door. The owner Stefan is wonderful and really goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable. There are free kayaks and snorkeling equipment to rent and the island's best snorkeling is right in front of the hotel. Lovely stay, we would definitely go back and stay there again.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Horizon resort. The resort came under new ownership about 5 months ago and it is evident that the new owner, Stefan, is willing to go above and beyond to make your stay at his resort memorable and enjoyable. Stefan has already completed several renovations since taking ownership of the resort and plans to add a small bar and a masseuse, although these were not completed at the time of my stay.

The resort itself is quite nice: the bungalows are of a decent size and each has its own private bathroom. The air conditioning works extremely well and there was a television in the room although I never used it. The clubhouse/reception area is very nice and has free wifi. Breakfast is free and is actually very good so don't miss it! The food at the resort is good and reasonably priced - though you can certainly find cheaper food on the island if you stay away from restaurants and resorts. The resort also has brand new docks and a renovated pier that has a great view of the sunset.

The resort has a free kayak and free snorkeling gear along with scooters for rent. The snorkeling gear and the scooters are brand new. Definitely make sure you snorkel because the resort has one of the best snorkeling locations on the island.

There is also a small store next to the resort where you can purchase anything that you may have left at home (mosquito spray, sunscreen, etc.).

The only downside to this resort is that it does not have its own beach access - there is about a 1 minute walk to the beach. However the docks spaced out along the shore allow you to lay out much closer to the water than you ever would be able to do on a beach. Also, I should note that none of the beaches on the island are private so I encourage you go around and explore the different beaches at the resorts across the island.

Because all of the beaches are free to access, what you are really paying for is the location and the services at the resort. Although the resort has about 15 bungalows, they are spaced out in such a way so that you still feel like you are alone on your own private resort. Stefan was really the difference-maker for me: I don't think I've ever stayed at a hotel where the owner was so flexible, attentive, and accommodating.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Horizon for your stay on Koh Kood!

We picked this over a lot of other resorts because of the price and reviews, and we're quite pleased. Stefan the owner is an incredibly nice French man who has been living in Thailand for the past six years or so. He has a background in construction and while we were there for five days did the following:

Arranged brand new scooters for us first thing in the morning for 300 baht per day. They were excellent and so much fun!

Built two new beautiful personal docks on the sea side to relax. Stefan told us he wanted the resort to feel both very welcoming and private, and I think he is doing a great job of that.

The rooms were nice and the A/C kept them very cool in the hot sun. The bathrooms are "outdoor rain showers" and are just small extensions on the rear of the bungalow. I quite liked them because you could easily hang your clothes to dry without worrying of them blowing away, and there's nothing like sitting on a toilet under the stars.

The bed was a soft king that came with a nice duvet and ample pillows. The rooms also had a mini-fridge, wardrobe, TV, bottles of water everyday, a bit of soap and shampoo. They were cleaned every day first thing in the morning.

Breakfast was free and was a quite nice buffet with both Thai and Western dishes that changed every morning. Free coffee, tea and juice were provided. The restaurant was also very good and was some of the better food we had on the island (went to other resorts and restaurants). Mains were about 100 - 220 baht and big beers were 90 baht which is similar to other places on the island other than local restaurants. It didn't have a bar, but Stefan was in the talks of building one soon. There is also free snorkel gear and a kayak for paddling about.

A small mini-store is not but a minute walk away and had a lot of sundries like hats, sunglasses, flip flops, food, hard alcohol, beer, wine and toiletries.

The resort isn't RIGHT on the beach, but there is a foot path that leads to the ocean about 1 minute walk away. Also there are so many other beaches that you will want to explore on the island I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just rent a scooter and enjoy yourself.

Overall we had a great time on the island. Ko Kut is extremely beautiful and most of the beaches we visited had maximum five - fifteen people on them during the afternoon. It was very easy to be completely alone there. Perfect.

Room Tip: When you check out you can select various views. We opted for beach view and had a fine view from ou...

It was a pleasant surprise when i arrived to Horizon Resort, it was just like paradise, the views, sunrise and the sunset was like something out of the box, amazing.
All the services provided by the resort, bungalows, food, internet were wonderful, the staff took care of all your needs without any concern for you, so you have all the time to enjoy the stay and relax. And finally the owner, Sthephane, was so kind that a felt like home.
Congratulations Stephane and keep going the good work.

We booked 3 nights basen on the rating at Booking.com, which by the way was summarizing 8.9 on a 10-grade scale. Well - the reality showed different and we left the next morning. To summarize: no beach, no A/C despite being booked, outworn bungalows...and the whole place needs restauration!

Room Tip: Guess you need the best they have - the Sea breeze Bungalows

Hello
I am very sorry that you didnot spend good time in my resort, all my apologies.
It is a pity that you did not told us that air condition was not fresh enough, if i knew, i fixed that...
You stayed only one night, you even did not gave a chance to make the difference with our service, like using kayak, snorkels for free, huge free buffet breakfast... i used to make happy customers, that's why we have also some nice reviews.
New owner for only 5 months, i agree that the resort need to be renewed a little bit but that takes time, we are on a island...
I thank you anyway for your review, i will do my best to correct those defects.
Best regards
Stephane

A fabulous place to stay. The private bungalows are cleaned daily and very well, the location is beautiful, staff are friendly and welcoming. We loved snorkeling, kayaking and swimming right outside the door. Food is great in the restaurant. Very reasonably priced accommodation considering you are staying on a paradise island. We hope we can visit again soon! The main waitress/employee in the green tshirt is a huge assett! She is lovely. The owner is very helpful and offers lots of advice. Everyone should stay here!
