One of the BEST places for relaxation and pure enjoyment

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 7, 2012
Arriving and staying at Tinkerbell was exactly what we had longed for - It's simply a fanatstic location, great beach, crystal clear water, wonderful accomendation, tasty food and a fantastic staff that was smiling and helpful from the moment we arrived to we departed. None of us (4 adults and 2 kids aged 8 and 12) can think of anything that did not make this stay into one of our best holidays for a long time.

Koh Kood and Tinkerbell is the place to go if you want to relax and simply enjoy your loved ones. The Island is also a wonderful germ that easily can be explored on a scooter. The local Pizza and Pasta restaurant located 10min on scooter from TinkerBell is also worth a visit.

Thank you Tinkerbell for making our stay this great. We will most definately be back. And other travellers you can't find a better place to stay at Koh Kood.
Date of stay: April 2012
Room Tip: We were 4 adults and 2 kids and had a Pool Villa and Beach Villa. We will definately choose Beach...

I had a bit of a love / hate relationship with this place as I think it is overpriced for what I think is essentially a 3.5 star resort

The positives are

Best beach on the island set on its own little paradise
Nice main pool with great furniture for lounging
Friendly and helpful staff
Good size room and private upstairs terrace

Negatives
Poor breakfast and covered in flies
Poor restaurant - forgot my order of curry and just brought rice which sat around getting cold for 20 mins while they brought it to me.
We had a villa with private Pool which was pretty nice and with a private upstairs terrace. But the pool wasn't clean and was full of bugs and wasn’t cleaned the whole time we were there
There was one plastic 2 seater sofa outside which wasn’t really conducive to lounging by the pool
We had a mosquito net with what looked like it had blood on it which we asked to be changed and never was

I don’t want to appear too negative because it was truly set in paradise and the villas were nice. I felt for the price It needed a few tweaks to take it to the next level and then it would be amazing

I didnt stay here but i just went there to have some drinks during the day and enjoy the stunning beach and also have my dinner in the evening
since my friends and I agreed that the resort has a really great location and looks better than our resort (Away resort) by its atmosphere. we werent impressed that much with the restaurant at our resort, so we chose Tinkerbell's instead since they serves various kind of food (comparing to Away's) , but yea it was all right. i got disappointed a little bit because i was expecting to get real good fresh seafoods from this Island. i ordered crab in black pepper and what i got is just not even half of a crab i think, and not much with its meat, and the price for that dish is actually expensive, however i like the drink at this restaurant, i ordered a glass of cocktails and it worths the price, (at least it has the taste of alcohol)

Location:
+ Right on a beautiful beach with crystal clear water and nice sand.
- Not the remote beach you could be looking for as it is directly accessible from a main road, the beach is busy with people coming from all over the island or simply from their sister hotel Peter Pan.

Resort:
+ Lovely cozy boutique hotel with 15 rooms only with comfortable areas to chill out around the pool or at the lobby.
- The hotel is not baby friendly at all ! I was suprised they have NO babycot, NO baby chair or any materiel baby related to offer...

Room:
+ For the same price you get to chose between a beach front villa or a pool villa which are both great. They both have their own decoration style and they both have different advantages that can meet anybody's criteria.
- There is no phone in the room which it is not convenient when you need to get in touch with the lobby or an other room.... I found the hot water system in the showers (no bath available) is on and off which apart to be annoying is a nightmare when showering a baby. The beach front villa is a bit to dark at night and the pool villas attract a lot of mosquitos. The video system is not directly connected so you need to transfer yourself the cables from the decoder to the dvd player if you want to watch a movie.... not really convenient to do and I had problems with the sound system that broke 2 times.

Service:
+ The staff there is lovely, from the receptionnist, the housekeeping to the waitress or drivers. They have many people speaking very well english and they always try to help and tend to remember your routine which we quite enjoyed.
- The booking process is too complicated... They hardly reply to the emails and they not always answer to the phone. They told us we don't need to book the boat transfer back in advance so we ended up with a time we did not want as all boats were full....

Restaurant:
+ The unique restaurant is mainly serving Thai Food which is quite well cooked. You can order more dishes than what you can actually find on the menu like rocklobsters or hotpot.
- It is all about Thai Food which after few days can be boring. The breakfast is a real disapointment... No fresh juices, no yoghurts, no pastries, a small fresh fruit selection, industrial marmelade, instant coffee etc.... They offer juices and ice cream all day long but they don't advertise it so we ended up noticing it the last day...

Overall it is definitely a place I will like to return but I also think the price is too high for what you really get. Either the price should drop down or numerous improvments should be done to match what you can expect for such an amount.

People rates this resort highly which I do understand as the location is to die for and the little pool area is so relaxing.
But I do not think the quality and service justify the price. I simply expected more.

We booked a beachfront villa with seaview.

The first villa had a nasty smelling of mold and we changed the next day. The explanation we got was that the beach front villas are covered with bamboo on the inside and this will start to smell when getting humid. The pool villas in the second row does not have bamboo at all. They have light colored concrete walls and felt much newer even if this was not the case.

The next villa - we really wanted beach front - was much better but the hallway and the bathroom still had the same smelling.
The lightning in the villa is poor and if you want to read in bed, bring your own light. And as the ceiling and walls are covered by bamboo it adds to the darkness.
There is a flat screen tv and a blu ray player. DVDs can be borrowed in the reception. The minibar is stocked with free water.
Apart from this, not much to make the villa nice and cozy on the inside. Felt fairly simple.

Bathroom had a shower with not much pressure as many other places on the island. Floors and sink cleaned daily but walls had stains from earlier guests.

Porch large and nice with a huge sofa in front of if. Two sunbeds per villa and each villa was separated by a wooden fence giving you the feel of privacy. Felt like your own outdoor living room!
This is what we came for. The ocean only a few steps away - magic!

When checking in we did not receive much information regarding the resort. It took us 2 days to notice that there were free coffee/tea/juice and toasts all day. On our last day we notice that they also had snorkel gear and DVDs. Everything was hidden behind the reception and there were no signs or no information in your room.

Restaurant, we tried several items on the menu. Their pasta and fish were delicious. We noticed that other guests had items not mentioned on the menu, like hot pots, pancakes etc. Apparently the menus were more of a suggestions of dishes.

Breakfast only acceptable for the price. Weekends there is a small buffet consisting of Asian dishes with rice, eggs and bacon, cereals, pancake and watermelon/banana.

I do not want to sound too negative. We had a wonderful experience here. The beach is fantastic and so is the little pool area for our kids. It could be worth staying here for a couple of nights just to experience it,but again, it is way too expensive. If the price had been adjusted a little I would have rated it higher.
However they do occupy the best stretch of the beach, which they also clean thoroughly daily!

The staff is nice and helps you out with any issues, some of them are really good in English.
On our three nights visit the resort was barely 30% booked - in high season and on a busy island!
They are very hard to get in contact with and does not answer on email addresses stated on their home page. Best is to call them - which we did.

What Shantaa lacks in beaches, Tinkerbell has plenty.
What Tinkerbell lacks in details and professionalism, Shantaa has plenty.
That pretty much concludes my experience of the two resorts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other:
There are other restaurants nearby, close to the river. There is also a nice little cafe on the view point, with views of the beach. We went there every day for a yogurt drink and cake or toast.

On the back of the hotel there is a guest house and some backpacker places, if you want to stay nearby put not want to pay the price of Tinkerbell's.

My favorite beach is Bang Bao beach. In my point of view the most beautiful one. Well worth a visit.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Tinkerbell over Christmas 2011 and loved every minute of it! The resort and buildings are brilliant (we stayed in one of the beach huts), the staff are attentive, but its the beach that is the star of the show with beautiful white sands and clear blue water. Could not recommend this reosrt highly enough to couples or families. The only issue to be aware of is getting to Koh Kood. There are only two boats a day to the island at 9am and 1pm from Laem Sok pier on the mainland. I think you can book these in advance and I would highly recommend this.
