“Perfect...everytime!”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

I have stayed at KJBV many times over the last few years and every time I return, its better than before. The houses are incredibly built, lots of natural airflow, beautiful decorations, spotlessly clean and separated from one another to give all the privacy you would like. Common grounds and walk ways are manicured and beautiful and are planted with love and vision.

URBAN CAFE is one of the best eating experiences in Thailand. Fresh seafood right out of the sea and they make all of their own breads, museli, yogurt, breakfast rolls and pizza dough. I'm not exaggerating, we try to justify eating 4 meals a day when we are there. Dont' forget to ask about fresh sashimi!

The pace of Koh Jum is one I will I could bottle up and take away with me. Long empty beach for walking, a beautiful pool right on the beach front and a massage sala nearby. Although I personally don't do much of anything other than relax and read books, beacuse there is no better place to do it...there is a dive shop located on property and the possibility to take bikes or motorbikes out for a tour, for the more active travelers.

Severine and Chris run a great team of lovely helpful staff.
I cant wait to go back. KJBV will offer you the most unique Southern Thailand expereince, don't pass it up.

We stayed at KJBV in Feb of 2012 for our honeymoon. Having never been to Thailand before we really didn't know what to expect. We were referred by a friend to visit Koh Jum due to its quiet nature and less commercialised/developed feel. Chris handled our queries wonderfully and was very informative regarding what to bring, how to get there.

Landing in Phuket wasn't the best method to arrive in retrospect however it was our only choice given the day we had to fly and our departure location. KJBV arranged a taxi to deliver us to Krabi, the service was great and no complaints there - only it was a tad long a trip - but that's our fault as previously mentioned.

The taxi arrived at Krabi port and we were ushered onto a longboat also arranged by KJBV. A short ride had us arriving on the beach in front of the resort where we were greeted by Chris (resort manager) and an entourage of staff which took our bags to the villa. Chris gave us a tour of the facilities and then handed us over to his smiling staff.

As we were staying two weeks, we had booked two villas given the availability. Our first villa being Baan Chei Ley (pics attached). A wonderful villa right on the beach, with a queen bed, double shower, kitchen and the usual appointments you could expect from a high class resort. I cannot stress enough, the villas ARE actually as good as the pictures on the KJBV website. Not a common occurrence!! My only criticism would be the villa next to us had a small child who had trouble sleeping some nights - but I don't hold the resort responsible for this.

The second villa - Baan Nest, had only recently been completed and as such was fresh and new. I do believe however all of the villas would be to the same standard. Baan Nest consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a lot larger than the first villa we stayed. In the second row we were closer to the pool, bar and restaurant - however at no time did we feel affected by noise. Housekeeping came in every day and I could not fault anything - amazing!

The resort has an in-house restaurant (Urban Cafe) and a Bar (also titled Urban Cafe). The restaurant food was excellent, friendly fast service with a broad range of food on offer, both traditional Thai as well as western cuisine. The pizzas were fantastic, in fact everything was!

KJBV also arranged our outgoing journey with a long boat and taxi back to Phuket, all we had to do was let them know our flight details.

Things to note: make sure you bring adequate cash, there are limited ATM's or credit card facilities. The accommodation, restaurant and bar can be settled via credit card for a modest % fee at reception, but all other items are payable by cash (eg taxis, boat trips, cooking classes, day tours etc). There are no watersports at Koh Jum, so no jetski's speedboats or similar - longboats are it!

We will be returning to KJBV next year and I can see more years after that. It was wonderful. The pictures on the site are actually what you see when you arrive, no photoshopping or 'best angles' used. The island is quiet and really lets you see what traditional Thai island life is like, not commercialised, not tacky - just quiet and relaxing. So I would suggest it for people looking to get away from it all and just be engulfed in the beauty that is 'untouched Thailand'. Having said that, it's remoteness and quiet may not appeal to people looking to hit the bar scene or nightclubs as honestly that isn't what Koh Jum is about.

My only negative for our complete 2 week stay was seen on low tied, there are submerged rocks at the beach on Koh Jum, these cover most of the beaches. At normal tide they aren't an issue and would mostly go unnoticed. We had no issue with the rocks, but people with children or others who expect watersports etc - it won't happen!
On the positive the tidal changes keep away beach hawkers and help in maintaining an undisturbed trip to the island.

Room Tip: Both of the villas we stayed in were excellent. The beach front ones have a little more noise with p...

We stayed here for two weeks from 20th feb 2012'mnormally we would go to the Maldives, but from now on we will stay here.from my initial contact with chris to our departure it really was perfect.we stayed in ban don that had its own pool.the house and garden was beautiful so much so we never wanted to leave our private oasis.the beach was white and long, even when the tide was out it was still really beautiful.the staff were excellent from odd who runs the bar, housekeeping reception and severine the manager was always on hand with a friendly word and nothing was to much trouble for any of them.the gardens and plants were well tended and we even had monitor lizards in our garden.the resort has to be commended for trying to keep the natural environment for the wildlife and being Eco friendly with no glass bottles etc allowed.do not hesitate to stay here it really was a perfect place.we hired a moped to see the island which is small but the locals are so friendly.any of the homes would be perfect depending on if you want beachfront /pool/privacy.yes this is not the cheapest option on koh jum but we didn't see anywhere that came close to this place.so if you want to stay in one of the most beautiful places on earth, something unique in concept, something special then stay here.my tips are bring very little with you.they supply shampoo, conditioner, shower gel.you won't need shoes only flip flops and swimwear.....leave everything else behind...we will be returning next year .this place is what dreams and memories are made of.
My biggest tip is stay for as long as you can because the only regret anyone had that we spoke to was that they had only booked for a few days.forget staying anywhere else because this is the place you have been looking for.this is truly a magical place.

We've been dying to go back to KJBV ever since our first visit in October 2010. We very rarely feel the urge to return to places we've visited before, even if we've really enjoyed our stay, but this place has proved the exception to the rule. I wrote a glowing and detailed review last time around so I'll try not to go back over the same territory - but just to say we are already planning our next trip.

If you are looking for a fantastic place to wind down, in a beautiful setting, run by a group of people who are genuinely friendly and care about their environment and their guests - then look no further.

Koh Jum itself is a lovely laid back island, with a few low key resorts scattered along several long stretches of beach - there is just enough going on to keep you amused if you're the active type but none of the rapid, large-scale development that has overrun some of the other nearby islands. If all you want to do is read and relax it's perfect for that too.

Thailand is full of fabulous villa resorts, with hot and cold running coconuts, personal butlers to iron your bikini and squeeze out your suncream (none of which is on offer here!) so why choose this place? What makes it stand out for us is the attitude of the owners and management, the careful and ethical development of a beautiful and sensitive site, the genuine friendliness of the (mostly local) staff and fabulous attention to detail in the design of the villas and grounds.

The cost is admittedly higher than anywhere else on the island and we initially baulked at the price of villas, wondering if it was really worth the extra money, but we really have no regrets about our choice and feel we got good vaue for our money. I'd love to go back and stay in one of the bigger villas with friends and family.

This time around we stayed in Baan Noi Chai Ley, the smallest of the villas in the development and probably the closest thing to a normal style hotel room that KJBV comes to. Even without the kitchen and dining areas that the other villas all have, it's still miles ahead in terms of style and comfort to anything else on Koh Jum. There's a fantastically comfortable, fan-cooled sitting area inside, great for when it rains or get's too hot outside, huge folding doors to the terrace and a peerless beachfront view from the bed looking out toward Koh Phi Phi and the setting sun..

It is not a hotel but a kind of hybrid development, that works really well for owners and guests alike - the villas are all privately owned and individually designed, but there's with a signature style to the design and furnishing that unites all the houses. If you rent the villas, the staff come in daily and clean while you are elsewhere and any housekeeping or maintenace issues are dealt with immediately without fuss.

Owners and guests mingle casually at the poolside bar and are entertained by the fire wielding barman Aod. It is all overseen by Chris and Severine and the team of local staff, who effortlessly make everyone feel welcome and always seem to have time to stop and chat, even when they are really busy. They are a great asset to the resort and an important part of what makes it special.

The food in the locally-owned, onsite Urban Cafe is still excellent quality and value (cheaper than the upmarket french place next door), but I don't think the menu has changed since our last visit and could possibly do with a bit more variety or occassional change. However, everything is freshly prepared, homemade and local and the staff are lovely and willing to adapt anything if you ask.

The dive shop has also grown and taken on new staff since our last visit - it seemed very professionally run by Peter and Vera and groups are small and well supervised. We visited Koh Phi Phi on our dive trip and were astounded by the number of people crowded on to some of the other dive boats and the reckless way they were zooming, about so we were very pleased to be in such capable hands.

I know I've got carried away again and written far more than I originally planned, but there's a reason this place inspires so many glowing reviews. Just hope I haven't jinxed any possible return visit with such high expectations to meet...

Well I have to admit I scoured the internet long and hard to find this place, and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived on the beach by long tail we absolutely loved the place. The villas were gorgeous, and beautiful designed in a very eco style. The staff under the wonderful management team of Chris and Severine were excellent, mixing the right level attentiveness while not being too in your face, a problem in so many 5 star hotels.

Thanks Koh Jum Villas for an amazing holiday that we will remember for a long time.

We spent three nights here. First, the landscape is gorgeous and the water is clean and clear - perfect for swimming or kayaking. The view of the greenery covered Koh peak down the beach is amazing. The architecture is also top notch, as are the details in the layout of each building. The maintenance of facilities is excellent - not one complaint. The staff took excellent care of us every day, and we appreciated the fresh flowers and fruit they put in the villa (Bahn Chai Ley) each day. We ate each meal at the restaurant - and the food was some of the tastiest we had throughout our trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos - at a VERY affordable cost. The bar was also a great place to kick back at and drink the local Scrummy Jum cocktail. What else - glasses of wine while watching sunset? Right on. Beautiful. When we left, Chris, Severin, and Taa came to our villa to say farewell, and to personally organize the landing of a long boat at the beach right outside our cabin to take us back to Krabi. We loved this place - top marks for location, architecture, service, food.

Room Tip: Beach front is optimal

ok, just a bit.
obviously, we had a very good time at KJBV, everything was far better than expected.
The houses are beautiful and built in a well designed eco-style and are very comfortable.
Everything was very uncomplicated, the staff was very personal and nice , the food in the restaurant is delicious.
It was our first long trip with our small 2 year old boy - he enjoyed the whole place and the people there as we did. Everybody of the staff had much fun with him and we always felt welcome, everything is very suitable for small children.
We spent about 2 weeks in 2 different villas, and we would say It's one of the best locations we have ever been to. If you seek a calm and personal place, we would really recommend KJBV, there was nothing to complain about.
We will come back for sure.
Many thanks to Severine,Chris and staff.
