“Nice & Peaceful”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

Me and my friends did stay here for 3 nights during Songran holiday. We had booked teak wood villa with 2 days trip snorkeling and 5 meals from Thai Teaw Thai on Feb 2014. Hotel is great, views from bungalows are amazing overlooking the ocean . We had 3 great nights here. It really is, paradise. Our front line teak wood villa was large for three of us, clean and with the views you will never forget. We spent a long time gazing out to ocean. It's ok for swimming in the morning but few rocks at end of bay, don't think snorkeling any good tho. Cocktail hour 5-7 for good choice of any cocktail 120 baht with spectacular view.
Small swimming pool perfect for kids and people who don't like sand.
Food was fantastic, and although being remote, you tend to eat there, it was of high standard with reasonable price(a bit high)

No air-conditioning, but it doesn't really matter as the sea breeze is cool enough.

The only thing I was not too happy with, some miscommunication between sales and the resort. Manager was quite surprise that we had 2 days snorkeling. We did ask for 3-4 times before they did arrange 2nd trips for us because they can't check with sales who offer this package to us.

Also, electric lights in the room is not agreeable to the eye. In all the resorts we have been to, they use warm white light bulbs. So such a poor light that you can barely sit and read with it.

However, staffs friendly enough and helpful. Thank you to all of them to make this memorable trip for us.

Hotel is great, views from bungalows are amazing overlooking the sea. Staff friendly enough and manager speaks v good English and always there and helpful room clean, mosquito nets and fab power shower. About half km of secluded beach we had it to ourselves most of time. Just a few other small resorts shared same beach ( so u can also eat and drink at other places too)but v v few people on beach, not come across any English :). It's ok for swimming but few rocks at end of bay, don't think snorkeling any good tho. Cocktail hour 5-7 for good choice of any cocktail 120 baht.Food here ok but we walked 5 mins down beach to Oons Bungalow for tea
as food is extremely good. We had english breakfast inc at our hotel which was good. We hired moped to tour round island - the South is a bit busier if u want more going on ( eg freedom resort/ joy) and the sea seemed more clear but we preferred koh jum resort as more secluded& tranquil. If hiring moped (we paid 400 but u can prob get cheaper) defo recommend koh jum seafood restaurant at koh jum village and salaman bakery just down road for pastry. Doesn't look like many places have a pool- loved this place for the setting and sea views and v peaceful. Long tail transfers all well set up and organised.

We were given the biggest bungalow closest to the beach for our family of four- it really was paradise for us-huge inside with a massive shower and a separate bath tub from where you could see the beautiful beach below! Also to my daughter's delight a huge walk in wardrobe. We loved the beach and every afternoon when the tide was out there was plenty of fun playing frisbee etc. Lovely walks along the quiet beach as far as Oon Lee which is at a very rocky end of the beach.Enjoyed watching the monkeys playing in the trees behind the beach, relaxing on the swing and in the hammocks next door. My son enjoyed use of the free kayak too and swimming in the small pool. Make sure you explore the island on foot- we walked all the way to Koh Jum town which will take more than one hour but on the way you will pass so much island life and see other beaches. Delicious bakery about 20mins walk from the hotel too. You can get a taxi tuk tuk back most of the way -they will drop you at Magic Beach as the road is too rough after that. We tended to eat at Ting Rai Bay next door in the evening which was always friendly and welcoming. However the best night of our trip was New Years's Eve spent at Koh Jum Resort with a fantastic party organised by William, He really should be congratulated for the great effort he put in and Nue and the girls for dressing up and dancing so beautifully for us. We had a live band , traditional Thai dancing, sky lanterns for us all and amazing fireworks at midnight aswell as a huge and plentiful buffet.Better than we could ever have hoped for and a night we will always remember spent with new friends from around the globe! Would love to return here again one day -thank you to all the team at Koh Jum Resort!!!!!

Bamboo bungalow was great with bed positioned so you wake up looking out to sea.
Spacious balcony to relax on.
Beach was disappointing at low tide - not suitable for swimming but great for beach combing
and relaxing. Nice pool.
Don't leave food in the room, it's your own fault if you get a visitor!
Food a bit expensive and unadventurous. Go to next door hotel.

Was a little hesitant about coming to koh jum resort after reading the reviews on here, but I work in hotels and fully appreciate not all places suit everyone.
We got the ferry from krabi, please note you get of at the first stop for koh po, this is where koh jum resort is based, they collected us mid sea on the long tail boat.
There were 4 of us who got on here, 2 different couples.. We got checked in and welcomed with a refreshing glass of juice.. We were taken to our bungalow which I knew was not the one I booked as I'd book the bamboo cottage, anyway thought we'd had a free upgrade.... However 5 mins later the reception boy came up and apologised.. Damn... These teak villas were amazing thought, very large and spacious, with large bath overlooking the view... Infact in my opinion the rooms were too large... More like a dance studio.
On arrival to our bamboo cottage we were very surprised, these are positioned better than the villas as they are front row, with fantastic large balconies overlooking the beach, inside was a large double bed, fan, storage space, mozzie net and bathroom with hot shower... What more do you want.. The only downside to the bamboo cottage was you couldn't lock them or even latch them shut from the inside, we used a plastic bag to tie the door shut and the mozzie net had holes in..
I'd like to express we never saw/ heard any rates through out our stay.
The bungalows do back onto the staff accommodation which to be honest could be made a little more appealing but hey it's thailand
Breakfast was good, you could choose anything off the menus.
We had lunch here which we were disappointed in due to the small portion, but this encouraged us to eat elsewhere, the hotel next door did great food and the oonlee bungalows a short walk up the beach was amazing.... Make sure you eat out, other resorts are cheaper and more welcoming.
One thing we did find about koh jum resort was it didn't seem very welcoming to outside guests, and they didn't like their in house guests to go out... We wanted drinks on the star bar on the beach, lights were on but no staff, I went up to reception who said they'd send someone down, a lady came down and said they weren't open, even though another couple was in there with drinks, I stood my ground and to her annoyance she brought out some drinks.... This was the first night, we never drunk at the hotel in the evening again after that... Go to the boy bar next door, friendly staff in a relaxing beach bar.
We did however eat again at koh jum resort on our last night due to convenience, the food was good and service was great.... So my previous comments might only be relevant to people working on those days.
Make sure you walk to the village, along the dust road at the back of the hotel.. About 15 min walk, great bakery and also access to the southern beaches which are a little more busy... Ensure you go for a drink at Rock bar... It's different !!!!!
You can Rock hope down the beach but we found it difficult so did the toad option instead... There are taxis available if you don't want to walk back.
The hotel sorted our ferry to koh phi phi and drove us to the pier although a 400thb charge approx £8 was excessive for a 15min ride..
Overall I liked the hotels, just for the bamboo cottage alone, we used it as a base which worked perfectly, the beach was lovely and the sunset over phi phi from our balcony was fab

Room Tip: Room 611 has unrestricted sea views, a couple of the other bamboo cottages has large trees in front

After booking and a solid month of email exchanges back and forth with William, the manager, we arrived at the resort to find that the manager said that they didn't have a room and he was blaming the overbooking on the Agoda website. We had literally had email exchanges and telephone conversations the day before to confirm.
By being persistent, I managed to find out that there was a room for us, but it wasn't being offered to us because it would have been an upgrade. This is the worst kind of management. Deceit. But eventually we did get the upgrade
The room was great and big and clean and the food at the resort was also good so our stay was good but only because we pushed for another room. The management at the resort at the time was running it into the ground.
During our days there, the manager asked us to write a favourable review on Trip Advisor because for each 5 star review, then he would receive a bonus from the owners. Well, since they only offered 3 star service, I can only give 3 stars.
Down the beach is an amazing resort called Oon Lee. We ate there twice and it was obvious that this was a well cared for and loved resort. Koh Jum resort needs to find a manager that loves the place so EACH AND EVERY guest who travels the long distance to get there has a positive experience. Otherwise, the hotel will just be random guests booking one time and never coming back.

Room Tip: Recon firm your booking several times, through email and telephone, as far in advance as possible an...

We stayed for two nights in two different bungalows, having moved from a neighbour resort which was fully booked for the days we wanted. Both bungalows, one of them a 'villa', were very nice, clean and spacious, the villa being almost too large for our purpose. It was fitted with a single round room the size and looks of a typical meditation hall in which 40 people could easily be seated, but with very little furniture, just one chair as I remember, but with a luxurious bathroom with a bathtub for two. From the balcony there was a fine view over the ocean. The other bungalow, a little further down the hill, was just as nice, only smaller.

We had a night in between where we had no room, but William, the general manager, immediately offered his own room for the night, for free, which as it turned out wasn't necessary as we found another place to stay, but a nice gesture anyway. Overall, I would like to thank William in particular, but also New and the other staff members for being so helpful, friendly and hospitable. They also have a great sense of humour and as William understands and speaks English very well, all communication ran smoothly.

The food was okay, especially the fresh fish and squid we got the last day. Fresh fish is oddly enough hard to get by at those beach resorts as they are not on the menu card and must be ordered one day in advance.

The only thing I was not too happy with, though it is not unique to this place, was that they spray the rooms with some mosquito repellent that smells like incense making it almost impossible to enjoy the fresh sea breeze and the flowers from the garden. We had to keep the windows and doors open all day to get the stuff out. Moreover, using insecticides like this is completely unnecessary as there are hardly any mosquitos and you are sleeping under a mosquito net anyway.

Also, no one seems to have any idea of how to use electric lights so that it is agreeable to the eye. In all the resorts we have been to, they use the same low-quality energy saving light bulbs with no screens, so that all the light you have in your room is an ice blue cold type giving such a poor light that you can barely sit and read with it. But, again, this is nothing peculiar to this place as it appears to be a somewhat sad standard in those resorts, at least in those 4 - 5 we stayed in.

The top bungalows may have a slightly better view over the ocean, but are also closer to the road, although, being a dirt road, there is virtually no traffic except for an occasional scooter. There are many steps though from the beach and restaurant in case you are not fit.
