Good, but tried

Review of Rimpao Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 26, 2011
Have used the Rimpao Hotel annually for the last 8 years. The staff are friendly and always keen to help. It looks great from a distance and was nice once but is now a little tired. There is a large swimming pool, and the hotel food is good and inexpensive. Seems to be used as a Convention/Wedding centre (especially on weekends) and can be quite noisy. Try and ask for a room on the opposite side to the pool if you want some peace and quiet. All the cheapest rooms are twin rooms and the beds are ROCK hard.

We booked rooms at the Rimpao with low expectations, wanting only a good staging point for a visit to the Sirindhorn Dinosaur Museum, about 30 minutes from the provincial capital. What we got was a good night's sleep in a sizeable, clean and comfortable room, and great value (THB1,100, or US$35, nett per double room per night, including a basic breakfast). They have a large swimming pool, and the hotel food was good and inexpensive. The service was excellent - the staff even arranged a room for us in a quiet corner of the hotel to minimize the disruption from a poolside function, when they realized the noise might be an issue for our kids sleep.

A good place to go to relax.
The oldest hotel in Kalasin but worth trying.
Has an impressive foyer and a more impressive swimming pool.
Have been here a couple of times to 'unwind'.
The restaurant food and breakfast is good although a little expensive by Thai standards.
No free internet (I buy 24 hr unlimited for 200 baht)- much better value than 50baht for 2 hours.
Staff are friendly but you feel the hotel expects big spenders as customers. Rooms are clean - get one high up looking over the pool.
Seems to be used as a convention centre (especially on weekends).
A good place to relax for a couple of days, especially at the comfortable tables under the walkway next to the pool.

If you carry a rucksack and travel on a shoestring budget, you can still find luxury lifestyle and be able to afford it in North-East of Thailand. Go to Kalasin less than 100km east of the airport Khon Kaen and enjoy the luxury without the masses of turist but close to the locals who uses this big 4-star hotel for their celebrations which is most enjoyable to watch.

Room rate is less than 1000 baht a night for a big room including breakfast. Service is very good. Build and owned by the guy who runs the busses from Bangkok to the North East. Overnight VIP bus (24 seats) set you back around 500 baht and you are ready to explore from this fantastic base!

It was nice ounce but is a little tired now although it looks great from a distance. Be careful when you check in if you want to use the internet . Not all rooms have adequate coverage. The food is ok, the floors clean enough, and the beds hard as a rock. The pool is the nicest in this part of Thailand.
