Cris's peaceful, plantation paradise is nestled amidst hills, caressed by bountiful vegetation, calm and serenity. If you love the music in silence, then this is the place for you. The homestay at Raia is a short 30 min drive from the airport, through narrow lanes of old palatial homes, meandering through trees serenaded by calls of the nature. The road ends with Cris's home and with his home, ends the noise of the city and its chaos. We arrived midnight to be welcomed by Cris and his wife with bread, juice, chips and even cold beer. He also drove to us a Hyundai i10 to be used for our three day stay (for a very nominal charge. The car was clean and functional. An aux cable and a car charger would be a lovely add-on). The rooms were clean and with all the functional amenities of any good hotel. The place was clean and bed comfortable. The bathroom is spacious with enough cupboard space. Bath, hand and pool towels are provided in each room. The water pressure was perfect in all the spouts and hot water was available at a press of a switch. The temperature is few degrees lower thanks to the lush vegetations. We never used the AC and were comfortable with the fans. The room does come with a TV and cable. There is wifi service at the property but expect it to be a no signal zone for your phones. We never felt the need to be attached to any form of electronics at Cris's place. The pool is filled with natural water from a stream and is a maintained very well. The pool offers enough privacy to enjoy a quiet relaxing swim, be it on a misty morning or under the star lit night. Binay and his wife Bina, the caretakers are available if you need any help. The room is equipped with fridge, microwave, kettle and all basic cutlery. There is a lovely cooking area facing the pool where you can cook and enjoy a meal. The room was well stocked with drinking water, so skip the plastic bottles. Nicolai Bakery and Nostalgia restaurant are just mile away. A meal at Nostalgia is highly recommended. For the vegetarians, Krishna Hotel is a short 15min drive that serves delicious Indian vegetarian food. We never missed on our early morning trek around the village. You find life unfolding in the most beautiful way. Cheerful faces greet you with a smile. It is an amazing time to see many wonderful birds. With the right shoes, you can also trek by the mountains next to the property to be greeted by Langurs at every turn. Cris's wife surprised us by baking a delicious coconut pudding on our last day. We loved it. He also arranged a taxi for our early morning flight. Thank you Cris for opening your lovely home to us. We look forward to our next visit in February 2018.
