“Dirty and old hotel”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

I went to this hotel in an organiced trip to Central Asia. We stayed there 5 nights as it was the base for visiting the area. In these days they did not clean the room, they just made up the beds. Toilet and room got dirty but still they did not do anything. We even had to ask for reposition of toilet paper. You could notice that in general they are not clean.
The buffet was mainly oriental food. If you dont like that you just had bread and a kind or strawberry mermelade for toast but no butter, a plain cake and fruit. Nothing else.
In the web was saidl they have internet but when we arrived there, they said that it was not working. The guide said that never works.
The only good thing in this hotel is its location.

Located in central Kasghar, it is an older property that is showing its age. Based on the makeup of the people at breakfast, this is primarily a hotel for tourists this time of the year. Of the 8 rooms used by our group, only one couple was not disappointed.

Like so many hotels, it has many of the "newer" items like vessel sinks and walk in showers, but the property needs a basic facelift. It lacks the cleanliness that one would expect in a 3 Star hotel. And one quaint custom, it appears toilet paper is a national treasure.

During our stay, the main electrical switch by the door broke and was replaced as we sat in the dark, the building lost electricity while everyone was checking out and we were in the 7th floor and folks had to man handled their bags down 7 flights of stairs.

The hotel was OK and was recommended by Lonely Plant at some time in the past.

Since there might be other viable choices in Kashgar, I would consider using them.

Following Marco Polo on the Silk Road our agency had choosen this hotel. We saw first room with defects on sealing and very dirty carpet on the floor. We insisted an got another room, a little better but part of the bed covered by plasic foil - of course just 20% of the foil was undamaged.
We decided to change the hotel and found a very good room in only 5star hotel in Kashi. Price difference was just 12$ per person and night.

This hotel may have been grand once but is now past its sell by and need refurbished.

It has an excellent position, you can walk to most of the sites in Kashgar from here. Kashgar probably is better in the abstract than in the reality, and I would not advise spending much time in the city. The bazaar is certainly worth a visit and it was an eye-opener to see all the locally produced crafts actually been made in the shop.

However the rooms are tired, although they still have the trappings of pretension to grandeur. As another reviewer has said you do need to be careful of the "extras" charged in the room. In the bathroom, the things to the left of the sink are not free and you get charged if you open them, things the other side like shampoo are free. They go and actually check you room when you leave to see if you have taken anything

The bathroom layout with its transparent window (with pull down blind that did not work properly) is a bit disconcerting.

In common with other Chinese hotels, you need to do a check of your room as soon as you arrive, and immediately report any things that are broken to reception - to avoid the risk of being charged for these!

I stayed here for 2 nights during the first week of May 2012. I didn't use anything from the room during my stay, upon checking out the staff opened the packet of condoms and moved a bottle of drink from the cupboard from the left side to the right side. They then charged me for a packet of condoms and a drink. This is very unprofessional for a hotel to plant such things.

This kind of cheating and blatant lying from staff I have never had happen to me before. Upon speaking with my tour guide he said that this kind of behaviour happens a lot at this hotel.

If you go to Kashgar, I recommend that you don't consider ever staying at this hotel. The staff are liars and cheaters!

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel, the staff will rip you off!

Locationwise it was fine, but there's nothing Grand about this hotel. The rooms are located off DARK corridors, and when we saw our room - there's a glass panel separating the shower area from one of the twin beds - and a aris looking plastic drop-down screen saved the bedroom from having to view me in the shower! The shower area had no door and so the water splashed everywhere in the bathroom, and thank goodness, we had our own waterproof slippers to wear into the bathroom - the floor was suspiciously discolored.
The frontdesk staff was not friendly nor helpful.
The whole atmosphere was overall sleazy.
