Don't get me wrong. It is beautiful inside the park, but not wonderful, as least not as I expected.

Tianchi Lake (阿尔山天池) is the most famous place inside the park. But it actually does not worth the time and effort to climb up ~1000 stairs to see this body of water. While Tuofengling Tianchi Lake (驼峰岭天池) is much more beautiful. Dujuan Lake(杜鹃湖) is beautiful and Shitang Lin (石塘林) is an interesting place to visit as well.

The roads inside the park are kinda old, bumpy and narrow. The speed limit is 40km/h but I could hardly find anyone driving below 70.

The entrance fee is 180 Chinese Yuan per person and 20 per car. Kinda expensive.

If you ever come here, don't live in the city of Aershan. The travel agencies and restaurants and hotels in the city are so ready to rip you off. Live in a town named Yiershi (伊尔施) nearby. It's cheaper there and closer to the National Park.

Anyhow, it is the most attractive place to visit nearby.

Perhaps not the easiest place to get to for a foreigner, but worth the effort if you can. A nature photographer's paradise. I hired a car in ArongQi and toured the north-west of Inner Mongolia for a week, culminating in a drive through the Arxan National Park. Of course autumn is a good time to do national parks in the north because of the color of the "falling" leaves and the chill is yet to set in. You can drive through in a day if you spend the night in the small town of Arxan (famous for it's special mushrooms as well as the park) but there are a couple of very small towns with accommodation actually in the park itself, so if you want to enjoy the 'hot springs' that are popular, there are other options. I can imagine winter would also be very beautiful for the hardy tourist who loves the snow scene. Great food in Arxan and we had a great lunch in a small town called Chaihe, on the northern entrance to the park.

The National Park is absolutely beautiful in summer. The view of the open grassland, the Mysterious Heavenly Lake, the ponds and the Halaha river are just breathtaking. The park is about 2-3 hours drive from the town of Aershan. The drive is quite bumpy...but upon reaching the location it is all worth it. Entrance to the park is 180yuan. Facilities such as toilets and restaurants are available around.
