A l'Ombre du Fort

I have never stayed anywhere quite like L'Ombre du Fort. It is unique in its setting and the hospitality shown by Linda and Robert is amazing. They are so friendly and helpful. Ygor the dog is great and they have quite a menagerie of animals. The location is perfect for the train station (either to Perpignan or to take Train Jaune) and also for the village which is a 15 minute walk away along the river. The garden is also beautiful and the perfect place to sit and have a beer with Linda and Robert. I would love to come back here.

After wrestling with web sites for the train and trying to book for hours when we arrived Roger explained all, you can only book on the day of travel and in person and always ask for 'the next train' Marvellous advice! and only a short stroll to the station. We found this lovely place on trip advisor so, thanks! The great welcome really starts with the dog in the garden and then moves to the lovely house and the very hospitable humans. They were so kind and accomodating . Restaurant advice, booking, and directions , an invitation to a drink, meeting the live stock you were kindness itself. Old fashioned charm and service, trust and care in abundance. We loved our stay. Thank you.Although you should be in charge of SNCF, the yellow train bookings and schedule it would be a great loss to the hospitality industry.

Room Tip: It was a heatwave and August so the ones with two windows are good.

Following time in Paris for the first time, taking a 5 star cruise for the first time, we opted for a
another first experience in chosing a B&B in a more remote area to finish our trip. What a wonder this place is! Robert and Linda run a relaxed and friendly business, with spacious, clean and comfortable rooms and great breakfast. We loved that we could walk to the major attractions and transport and then return to our lovely retreat and the peaceful garden to relax. Linda was such a gracious hostess and we recommend A l'Ombre du Fort B&B wholeheartedly to all travellers and friends. You should not miss this tiny part of the world.

Room Tip: If you do not like to climb too many stairs, ask for a first floor room.

What a wonderful review you wrote. Thank you very much. You are right it is more convenient to have a room on the first floor but we only have five rooms and unfortunately you were the last to book for that periode. The advantage of the 2nd floor is that you have much more space than just a room with the bathroom ensuite. We loved it to have you as a guest at our place and we hope we added something good to your holiday.

We spent only one night at the beautiful located B&B of Linda and Rob de Beer on our travel from the Netherlands onwards to Spain. We were welcomed by there lovely and friendly dog Ygor who accompanied us from our car at the parking lot to the entrance of the B&B where we were welcomed with an outstanding hospitality. Linda and Rob are truly passioned about there business and providing there guests the best service and comfort you can think of. The only advice I can give to travelers is to spent more time at this location as it is really an exceptional positive experience in a beautiful scenery with all the comfort you can wish for at a good price.

A beautiful house in a dramatic valley right by Villefranche de Conflent station and five minutes stroll from the village, where you will be looked after by Ygor the dog and his two partners Linda and Robert de Beer. And looked after beautifully. You very soon forget you're not in a friend's home. Actually you very soon find that you are with new friends as Linda and Robert take care of your comfort and wellbeing with much warmth and generosity. Having eaten wonderfully at restaurant La Senyera (recommended by Linda) I came home to sit outside in the warm night air and chat over a couple of beers with Robert and Linda (Ygor can't be bothered with beer, apparently) and two young guests/relatives. These latter two had just finished a musical theatre course and I'm an actor, so we had a lot in common. I went to bed with a smile on my face and slept like a log.
Next morning breakfast was perfect -- the freshest of bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee. And a delightful request from a young member of the family (who, being shy, deputed dad to ask me) that "the famous actor"(!) should sign her tee-shirt. I only hope that she'll forgive me when she realises that I'm completely unknown!
I left with considerable reluctance to catch Le P'tit Train Jaune, and waved goodbye to Ygor, having had a completely delightful stay. I'm determined that I shall be back one day.

Room Tip: Just go, relax and enjoy

We stayed two nights in early May at this B&B. We received a warm welcome and helpful advice. The room was very comfortable, very spacious and clean. The B&B is very close to the train station and a short walk to Villefranche. The atmosphere is very relaxed, inclusive without being intrusive and Robert, Linda and family (and Igor) are very hospitable hosts. I would definitely recommend this B&B.

We spent one spectacular night with Robert and Linda and if we had known what wonderful hosts they would be, we would have stayed longer. This B&B is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the small effort to get there. Everything was first class and Robert and Linda went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were very helpful with background, history and suggestions and the breakfast was fabulous! When in southern France, go out of your way to stay here. You will not regret it! Robert even drives out of his way to find the best croissants in France!! Say hello to Igor for us.

Thank you very much for your review. We told Ygor you said hello to him and he was wiggling his tail so we think he understood. We think breakfast is the most important meal of the day and do our best to find the best food to serve our guests. We liked it very much sharing some of our knowledge with you. We hope to have added something good to your stay in France and wish you all the best.
