“Ygor and family...”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

A beautiful house in a dramatic valley right by Villefranche de Conflent station and five minutes stroll from the village, where you will be looked after by Ygor the dog and his two partners Linda and Robert de Beer. And looked after beautifully. You very soon forget you're not in a friend's home. Actually you very soon find that you are with new friends as Linda and Robert take care of your comfort and wellbeing with much warmth and generosity. Having eaten wonderfully at restaurant La Senyera (recommended by Linda) I came home to sit outside in the warm night air and chat over a couple of beers with Robert and Linda (Ygor can't be bothered with beer, apparently) and two young guests/relatives. These latter two had just finished a musical theatre course and I'm an actor, so we had a lot in common. I went to bed with a smile on my face and slept like a log.
Next morning breakfast was perfect -- the freshest of bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee. And a delightful request from a young member of the family (who, being shy, deputed dad to ask me) that "the famous actor"(!) should sign her tee-shirt. I only hope that she'll forgive me when she realises that I'm completely unknown!
I left with considerable reluctance to catch Le P'tit Train Jaune, and waved goodbye to Ygor, having had a completely delightful stay. I'm determined that I shall be back one day.

Room Tip: Just go, relax and enjoy

We stayed two nights in early May at this B&B. We received a warm welcome and helpful advice. The room was very comfortable, very spacious and clean. The B&B is very close to the train station and a short walk to Villefranche. The atmosphere is very relaxed, inclusive without being intrusive and Robert, Linda and family (and Igor) are very hospitable hosts. I would definitely recommend this B&B.

We spent one spectacular night with Robert and Linda and if we had known what wonderful hosts they would be, we would have stayed longer. This B&B is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the small effort to get there. Everything was first class and Robert and Linda went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They were very helpful with background, history and suggestions and the breakfast was fabulous! When in southern France, go out of your way to stay here. You will not regret it! Robert even drives out of his way to find the best croissants in France!! Say hello to Igor for us.

Thank you very much for your review. We told Ygor you said hello to him and he was wiggling his tail so we think he understood. We think breakfast is the most important meal of the day and do our best to find the best food to serve our guests. We liked it very much sharing some of our knowledge with you. We hope to have added something good to your stay in France and wish you all the best.

Outstanding hospitality from the couple that own this place - from the moment we arrived we were spoiled. Felt like we were staying with family. Great rooms with plenty of character and fantastic pool to spend hours lounging by.

Run by a Dutch couple who speak excellent English Robert and Linda de Beer, for ca 3 years. Room for up to 18 people in large old but well-maintained house and neighboring structure on the Tet river a short walk from town. Very friendly couple, nice room with fast wi fi, good breakfast. they have good ideas for local sightseeing, dining etc. We walked the road ca 45 mins up to Fort Liberia (Vauban) and took another walk up to the Abbaye of St Martin in a neighboring town (about 1 hour RT), both with enough elevation gain to keep you in shape after the good meals at La Senyera and Le Bistrot Catalan. On the way to Perpignan the last day visited Les Orgues at Ille sur Tet, sandstone structures erode over time into towering rock structures.

We spent two days at this nice B&B at the end of October 2011. It made a great stop on our trip to Spain, and we really hope to be back for more! The B&B is clean and comfortable, Linda and Robert (and Ygor) are great hosts and there is plenty to do nearby. The village is beautiful, but a bit quiet at this time of the year. Some of the shops and restaurants were closed, but it was still really worth the visit. The views from the fortress are breathtaking!
We have really enjoyed our stay. Two days was way too short! We'll be back...

How nice to write a review and thank you very much. We are happy you had a great stay with us and remember how much you enjoyed the village and the fort. As you say it is great to make this stop into an etappe on your way to Spain. Linda has practiced the Salsa dance so if you're around during summer, you can see some salsa moves of her. Haha no just kidding, thanks for the good conversations and music. We loved it. Have a nice stay in Spain and maybe see you next time.

We stayed three nights here and wish we had planned a longer stay. This B&B is immaculately clean and outstandingly comfortable. Robert and Linda are superb hosts, and immediately create a feeling that you are visiting with old friends. They are enormously helpful in planning activities in the area, which are far more plentiful than guidebooks suggest. The grounds and the pool are beautiful. A highlight was being greeted each time we returned to l'Ombre du Fort by Igor, the resident Welsh Springer Spaniel. The entire atmosphere here is unbeatable. We hope to return, not only to take in some of the sights for which we ran out of time, but also to have the opportunity of more relaxation at this wonderful B&B.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms.

Thank you for your review. We try to be as informative as possible to our guests so they are able to explore the region to the max. We know that travel guides are not indicating all possibilities of this region. Therefor we suggest the other possibilities close to the house or just a little bit further away. I think we have to be very lucky with Ygor because almost everyone write about him in the reviews or the guestbook on our website. If you have the opportunity to visit this region once more, we could help you plan to your trip to get the maximum out of your stay in this region. Take care.
