“Wonderful experience”

From the moment Trevor collected us at the reception lodge he was pointing out animals, birds and insects. His knowledge was incredible and we learnt and saw so much during our 3 night stay at HillsNek. At the lodge we were welcomed by Tamsin and nothing was too much trouble for her and her staff team. Our tent was great with a beautiful view over the reserve; the service and food were excellent. We enjoyed the chance to do a bush walk and also a river trip where we saw a stunning malachite kingfisher and a fish eagle. We saw many different animals and were lucky enough to see a caracal, small spotted genet and a spotted eagle owl with a mouse on our evening game drives. We would highly recommend Hillsnek and hope to return some day.

We stayed for four nights and could fault nothing. The tent is magnificent, and is a "tent" only in name - very luxurious. Because HillsNek only has 3 tents, it makes for a very intimate experience - only 6 or 7 guests are there at one time. The view from our private deck was stunning, and we found it very easy to while away the afternoon lazing on our deck chairs in the sun sampling the great wines that were provided in our private fridge. The outdoor shower is really something. The food was incredible, and the staff were more than happy to put together something for us to eat even outside of set mealtimes. Our ranger, James, was outstanding - very knowledgeable and we felt perfectly safe with him even in precarious situations with elephants! We were very sad to leave and will definitely be back, such an amazing experience.

We stayed for two nights at HillsNek. Travis, our ranger, was great and we had very close encounters with a lot of animals. The houses/tents are great and you feel like you have your own personal place, without seeing other buildings. Food was delicious and the staff is super friendly.

The most wonderful place I have ever stayed in! I can only repeat previous reviewers about how wonderful and comfortable the accommodation is, and how fantastic the food is, especially the high tea! But the most exceptional about HillsNek is how this is "glued" together by a warm, welcoming staff, who makes you feel at home. This also creates a friendly atmosphere to connect with fellow guests, so we also had the opportunity to meet and spend time with a group of kind and interesting people from all over.

The Reserve itself as as good as it gets, with a magical setting and vivid wildlife, where no minute passes by without a breath-taking view or bit of adventure. All of this accompanied by a knowledgable and passionate ranger, Trevor, who knows the reserve and its ecosystem like the back of his hand, and keeps us informed and entertained at the same time. :-) It was my first safari, but definitely not the last. Next time I am back to South Africa, I will be back to HillsNek.

What else can I say? Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!

My brother and his wife had already been to Hillsnek, leaving as friends and returned as family, then they introduced the two of us to this treasure, for 6 days in November!!! A WOW. Everything they'd raved about was true - the minutest attention to detail, be it in our luxury 'tent' of which there are three, the gorgeous, characterful lodge itself with SUPERB food and service (some of the best I've had as a professional traveller anywhere in the world!), and the personalised game drives with THE classy, early morning or evening 'coffee stop' on a convenient ridge. The owners, Brent & Chantelle, and our inimitable Ranger, James, made us so welcome and comfortable, not t forget the rest of the great team. Thanks a million! We recommend this for ANYone going to Africa, whether you've been before or not.

Dear Noel,

Thanks for your wonderful review! Your kind words coming especially from someone who is "in the know" of the hospitality trade is much appreciated and respected. It was a fantastic 6 days of good weather, great wine and food, memorable game drives and enough relax time at the pool or chatting around the fire at night! An exceptional "welcomed as guests left as friends" feeling would be the best way to sum up our time spent "hosting" your stay with us. Keep well and we look forward to you visiting again with the family.

Best Regards,

Brent and Chantelle
