Chateau de l'Isle
Reviewed September 9, 2013

This family Chateau is very well run. The room was clean, had excellent furnishings and a super comfy bed with lovely linen. It was great value for money and the breakfast was tasty too. It feels like a luxury boutique B&B with charm and a personal touch. The swimming pool was divine, and we could have easily stayed more than 2 nights. It was in easy walking distance to the small village to eat out, and only 30 minutes drive to a beautiful surf beach. The Chateau also kindly arranged an excellent horse trek with a local business called 'Le Ranch Des Lamberts', which took us through nearby vineyards, and it also involved a wine tasting, a great combination. I would highly recommend this B&B to any couples or friends looking for a relaxing holiday.

Stay: 2 nights 2013, June 6th and 7th, room l'Alsacienne
Rooms are well equiped in a modern style, however matching in an unique way with the historical architecture.
Reception is very warm, nice breakfest with local products.
Located very close to Bordeaux and the Medoc.

Vanessa and her family( mother and husband) were very welcoming, even giving us maps of vineyards and chateaux for wine tasting. Beautiful breakfast table with homemade jams and breads. Very tasteful decorating, new bathrooms.

Room Tip: Only have four rooms, but all seemed great.

We had an excellent time at the Chateau, we stayed for two nights and from the time we arrived we could not have wished for anything more. The owners make the stay personal and provide a useful source of information for exploring the Medoc region. The rooms are beautiful and combine a classic style with all the modern conveniences.

Room Tip: All rooms are great

All too often we’ve been lured in by beautiful pictures on a webpage, only to arrive and be afraid. Very very afraid. But, this special “gite” (inn) is more stunning in person than any Internet picture could possible convey. The home is an older chateau, being lovingly restored by its owners, Vanessa and Xavier—who, by the way, are an absolutely pleasure (they are both internationally-experienced aerospace engineers). On the property are beautiful gardens featuring roses and lavender, a welcoming (heated) pool area, and even several (fenced-in) gorgeous show horses—a passion of the owners. All of the rooms are meticulously restored, with gorgeous wood floorings, comfy beds, and mod bathrooms (we stayed in the Bordeaux room: Oh, the bathtub!... and, L’Occitane bath goodies). There are also bikes for use to explore the surrounding villages. The breakfast is a delight, featuring homemade yogurt, breads, marmalades… Overall, a wonderful find amongst the vineyards, and a must-stay should your travels bring you to this special part of the Bordeaux region.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely!

Stayed two nights in the newest room to be renovated (Lyon), exceptional hosts who helped us with all our queries and were very gracious (and able to speak English fluently which helped given we cannot speak French). The Chateau is a brief walk (5-10 mins) into Castelnau-de-Medoc, and it is a great location from where you can explore the Medoc region. Highly recommended!
