I've been here several times and the food is consistently of high quality, although the menu is very geared to a dinner experience rather than lunch - they don't really offer any lighter dishes.

Having said that, there is a good choice of food and it is certainly a cut above average pub food.

On our 2 most recent visits, the service has just been a little slower than usual with us having to go to the bar to order drinks whilst eating.

We will continue to go back and it's one of the better eating houses in the area.

Our second visit and equally enjoyable. A warm welcome from friendly staff (can I comment that I don't think shorts, even black ones, constitute restaurant uniform). A varied delicious menu, not limited to the usual roasts most pubs serve on Sundays. My sticky toffee pudding was a larger than normal portion, very generous! We weren't rushed to finish, just a nice leisurely pace. Being Mothers Day, the place was full but service didn't suffer. We came away happy, relaxed, stuffed! Ready for our next visit! Good job, NH!

My husband and I went to the Nags Head for dinner last week to celebrate a special birthday. The staff could not have been more welcoming - the Polish waitress in particular was absolutely charming, and the food was excellent. We will certainly return.

Four of us enjoyed a particularly luscious Saturday lunch at the NH. Staff were welcoming and the service was just right, they didn't rush us, but we didn't feel as if we waited too long. It's a really pleasant restaurant set in the (thankfully almost undiscovered) Chilterns. We have been there before and always found the food to be excellent. It IS quite expensive but I believe you get what you pay for. It wasn't busy when we dined there so I cannot comment on what it would be like when the restaurant is full - but, on this experience, I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

We had been told very positive things about the Nags Head so despite it being the most expensive B&B we had booked on our 3 week vacation (we were staying at 14 different B&Bs during the trip), we were very much looking forward to our night here. Our greeting upon arrival was friendly and our room was clean, comfortable and decor was nice. However when we downstairs to the bar for a drink before the restaurant was opened, the servers outnumbered the customers and we still received poor service and were mostly ignored. The food at dinner was good, but the service continued to be poor and we often wondered if our waiter/waitress was ever coming back. We slept well in our room, however in the morning upon waking we found the power in our room was out and as the bathroom had no window, we had to shower in the dark. When we came downstairs for breakfast, the staff was apologetic and stated someone had flipped off the wrong switch the night before when closing the restaurant which was why our power was out. The breakfast and the wait staff service in the morning was much better than our experience the evening before.

First time there as we were visiting the hospital nearby. Lovely cosy venue but very busy as it was Christmas time. Looked at the menu it looked great did see some people eating and the food looked fresh but it is quite expensive for what we were looking for: a bar meal. We would have eaten if we had been looking for something special and not in a hurry, would return when celebrating some special event.

......I do urge you to check whether there is a party booked into the Restaurant before you agree to take any room above it. We were in Room 1 and although it was very comfortable, the noise from downstairs kept us awake until way past midnight

Room Tip: Be sure to check the price of wine before you buy, a standard glass of New Zealand Cloudy Bay cost u...
