“Clean!”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

Clean, with nice showers! Clean bed with powerful fans. Just perfect after Tayrona park. Good restaurant with great coffee. Not cheap, gringo prices, but worth it. Noisy hostel, so bring earplugs. Lovely balcony in my room. It's a few blocks from town, but town is nasty with a filthy beach. I much preferred hanging out in hostel's comfy clean hammocks, on the top deck, and outside in the tree garden with fighting cats. Nice place!

Room Tip: It's all noisy. Must bring earplugs.

Overall this place was very good. The best thing is the atmosphere in the hostel. The top terrace is an amazing place to hang out for sunsets and for drinking a few beers. The kitchen is well equipped, but several of the cooking stoves weren't working which caused some waiting for everyone who wanted to cook. It's a little bit outside of town, but you get used to the walk pretty quickly.

Stayed here for nine days. The hostel has a great set out. The top terrace is great for sunset views and a beer. Kitchen was good but the stove did not work which lead to crowding and waiting. Great smoothies. DVD system and TV room was awesome. Restaurant was a bit expensive considering

this hostel is very well known by backpackers doing the gringo trail...the location is good, a bit far (up in the hill) from the main restaurants, beach and grouceries but is quiet and relaxing, the hostel is nice, hamacs everywhere and outdoor spaces, they have free charge mini lockers( bring your own lock) with space only for your passport and wallet but al least is something, our room had also a secure box but took the staff girl half hour to let us know how to use it...the atmosfere was quiet during the afternoon...lounge music playing but at night they started playing electronic music so the chill area wasn´t chill anymore...our room was right next to the restaurant and we were worried about the noise but no what a sorprise...the fan in the room was louder than the music! rooms are very hot, even with the fan and the windows have no mosquito net, only a curtain so mosquitos are around and you need to set the fan full speed so the noise is terrible...the price was too expensive for the value...if you take time to look around there are plenty of hostels better than this...if you are looking for backpacker atmosfere is a good choice i guess...we arrive late and stayed in a double room for 45000 and the dorms where 20000 per person (dorms look nice, no bunk beds so is a plus) but the next day we found a better option, villa esther, closer to everything and very quiet with a dorm just for ourselves with fan and aircon for 30000!

I'm sorry but... 15mins away from the beach makes it an inconvenient location. I don't mind a cold shower when you're this far out of a city but some water pressure would be nice. Towels provided were nasty and smelly. Information and tours desk is erratically manned. Staff in general are rude and of no use to your stay in Taganga. All of this would be manageable if this place wasnt hyped up so much. They're clearly trading on a good review from a well known travel book so manage your own expectations.

This hostel is perfect if you are the type to hang around the hostel all day...they have an array of hammocks, excellent views, a great restaurant, and the facility is very clean. If you like to venture out and interact with locals and bring home new friends for after-hours, it isn't the optimal spot. They have a strict guard at the gate who does not allow you to bring home guests, even if it's early in the evening. Also, it's ages away from the beach, so when you head to town, you have to bring ALL of your stuff. There was also some irritation with the computers because there are only 2 and no time limit is posted, so people would tend to be on there for hours. The kitchen also falls short as it has no utensils or cups or bowls. You have to ask the restaurant to borrow them and then return afterwards.

Great things: Fast wifi in many rooms and common areas, Very nice and helpful staff, Very big outdoor area where you could spend many hours, Lovely rooftop with hammocks where you get an amazing view over Taganga and the sunset, A restaurant with very very good food, Snack bar open all day long with good breakfast, The rooms has the best standards i've been to so far in hostels, comfortable beds, big rooms, a big and nice spacious and pleasant hostel overall!

Not so great: THE LOCATION! 10 min walk from the beach and center of Taganga. Felt like a hassle every time you go out at night to get back (especially if you are a solo girl, not recommend). I stayed in Casa de Felipe 1 week and didnt leave the hostel that often due to the location. Another minus is that this hostel has like 70% germans! No offense to German people, but a bit more mix of nationalities wouldn't hurt. I felt for me the biggiest minus of the hostel was the other backpackers there plus the location.
