“Amazing hostel you need to visit!”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

After 19 months travelling south america this was easily one of the best hostels i have stayed in. I was only going to stay a couple of nights but soon extended my stay longer and decided it was the perfect place to end my travels. Mona, Juan and all the staff were really nice and chilled and always around to help with anything and had loads of good information on all the things to do in the area and would help you organise it all. They were very friendly and definitely up for having a good time; Some parties were organised while i was there and they were immense!! The building is a very cool bamboo structure, newly built so its really clean and with a very nice feel and lots of hammock around the place.
The rooftop bar has some of the best views (and drinks) in all taganga and is great to watch the sunset in the evening and chill with some really good and strong, cheap, tasty cocktails and meet other people before going out.
They also organise diving courses which is one of the best things to do there. I sorted it with them and Juan took me out and I had a great time! He was really friendly and professional and I saw so many incredible animals and reefs.
Maybe im ranting but it deserves it! This hostel is great and the people there gave me an amazing end to my travels and I would recommend it to all types of people. Hopefully i will get back there soon. My only complaint is that is has made coming back to england so much harder!!

Thanks,
Mike

La Tortuga is a clean, modern, spacious, well-equipped, friendly hostel in a quiet part of Taganga, away from the noisy beachfront. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are simple but comfortable (we stayed in a private double with ensuite) . Backpacks were stored for us securely and for free while we were away trekking to Ciudad Perdida. There is a 3rd floor bar with good value drink and happy hours.
One small point - as you are not given a key for a private room, it was a little bit annoying having to ask a staff member to open the room for us each time we wished to return to it.

Overall I would recommend this hostel as a relaxing place to stay in Taganga.

We stayed at the hostel for 5 nights in total (going back and forth from Tayrona Park and Minca) in 3 different dorms, all 4-bed dorms. They were all very clean and neat, by far one of the cleanest hostels we have stayed in during our 6-months in South America. There is a bar on the roof where they play really good chilled out music and serves beers for a reasonable ammount. The staff is also very nice and willing to help with whatever you need. Good atmosphere and good for meeting other travelers, as there are a lot of common areas. (They have two pet tortoises too!!).
They also rent out towels for a 10.000 deposit which is very nice, since our towels were both dirty and filled with sand from the beach.

Room Tip: The rooms on the left of the stairs are a little cooler than the rooms facing the sea.

We booked a private double room for 3 nights a week in advance and the owner,Mona confirmed our reservation! However when we arrived we were told there was no reservation as we didn't pay a deposit but we were never asked to and a deposit was never mentioned! The guy on reception wasn't the friendliest of folk,he said he had room in a dorm for us!I asked if we would be the only ones in a dorm and he said yes so we went in there! At 11pm that night when both asleep after a long day the door opened and 2 people arrived after apparently having booked the other 2 beds in the dorm!We weren't impressed as we had been told differently! The next day we moved to a private room and Mona apologised for the error!
The hostal is nice, rooms are good, bathrooms nice, only cold water but Taganga is hot so it's nice! There is a paddling pool in the garden and a nice bar on the roof! They have a random system where they don't give out keys...not a big inconvenience but everytime we came back we had to ask to be let in our room and sometimes there was a crowd at reception!
Overall it is a nice place and Mona is lovely, very helpful!Think the other guy needs to be a bit friendlier and smile though!
