“A good choice in Taganga”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

Me and my boyfriend decided to stay in Taganga for 2 weeks as a break from our long-term travels, as we needed some chill-out and scuba-diving time. After moving out from Casa Beula (dont go there) the first day, we found Techos Azules. It is recently renovated in a greek style, all in blue and white. It is really close to the beach, but far enough away from the town centre not to be disturbed by the loud music. There is a great chill-out area with hammocks and a sea-view across the bay. The internet worked most of the time, even in our room. There is a shared kitchen, which was very handy for us as we are travelling on a budget and was staying for a longer period of time. When we said we wanted to stay for 2 weeks, they gave us a great room at the top of the hostal, with superb view from the window. We had a shared bathroom and shower, but only had to share with one other room and it was right next to our room anyway. The place is very clean, they have cleaners changing the beds and cleaning the rooms every other day. There is no hot water in the shower, but you dont need that in Taganga. If you haggle with them, they will give you a better price - just be persistent. We found a better price on hostelbookers.com than the price they told us. They said the cheaper internet-price was for a room next to reception with no view. But in the end, as we were staying there longer, we got the room for 40000pesos.
Now for the negatives:
They tried to rip us off with the laundry, claiming that it is double the weight than it was. Check it beforehand, and dont trust that they weighed it properly. The guy in reception even said that they charged us more since they were not used to Europeans complaining... I mean come on...
The kitchen was not always clean.
There was rarely toilet paper in the bathroom, we had to keep asking for it.
The toilet did not flush a couple of times, but they fixed it quickly.
Some of the staff are rude and not very helpful.
The sheets on the bed did not really fit the mattress.
The wifi signal could be better.
However to us these were just minor problems, and I would not hesitate to stay there again or recommend this place to others.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the top floor, they have the best views

We stayed on Techos Azules for over 2 weeks, as we were taking a break from our long time travels. I am glad we chose this hotel, as it really offers a great location away from the noise of the main strip, but still overlooking all of Taganga beach and bay. We could hear the party music from way below, but it was not loud enough to bother us.
We had a great room with a window view of Taganga - perfect. The room was very clean, modern and well kept. The cleaning people came by every few days. Don`t look at the older reviews stating how dirty it is here, they have renovated and improved cleanliness since those days.
There is a hammock area overlooking Taganga beach. It is a great place to chill out with a book or laptop, but in the evenings it gets very windy up there. VIEWS are great !
Wifi worked in the room as well
Price: they have a dorm, which is a bit dreary at about 25 000 pesos. The cheapest double is about 50000 , but you can get it for 40 000 if you are staying for a week or more.

The reason why this does not get a perfect score:
The staff are NOT very attentive when it comes to service, they really don`t seem to care. Not too friendly either. Jonathan was the coolest guy there. The toilets were without toilet rolls for the whole time, but I managed to find their secret storage place for it.
Also they don`t seem to know their own prices, as they tell you much higher prices than what is actually on hostelbookers.com. We were telling them that we are going to book it online in the reception unless you give us the same price, and then they will have to pay a fee to the website !
Also they tried to trick us by overcharging the laundry !! check the prices with them before you allow them to do it !

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a view of the beach, on the top of the hostel so you don`t have people walking...

the Techos Azules Hostel is one of the few nice places in Taganga. the hostel is cosy, with great view from the terrace with hammocks.

but it is worth to stay in Taganga just 1 night, when travelling to Tayrona park or further along the Atlantic Coast. because Taganga is a very dirty place, it is so sad, that the impression from the stunning sea view is spoiled by the amount of marginals, abandoned animals and anti-sanitary there.

This hostel is in a beautiful location with stunning views. However, we experiences some challenges. We arrived after dark, tired after a long drive, and were given a room (we had a reservation) with the following:
1) toilet didn't flush (staff eventually repaired)
2) shower was barely a trickle of water
3) ceiling fan made such a racket that our dogs didn't want to stay in the room, and we thought it was going to come loose and decapitate us.
4) bathroom smelled like urine
The solution offered was to move to a larger, nicer room for $40,000 COP more.
So, we did not stay a second night.

We have made a reservation for a matrimonial room, and arrived to the hotel fully packed, as the woman said that we didn't reserve because she cannot find us in the computer and so we had to insist that we DID reserve, she did us a favor by giving us the worst room (boiling hot, almost no air) with the view of the wall in front of us, and no toilet and shower in the room, that we reserved.
The "shared"Toilet bathroom that we had to use was dirty had no toilet paper, and when we asked for it, the man at the reception gave us the answer that its not his job, and we should wait for the morning (!!!),when we insisted and were shoked he gave us a roll of paper that was a meter away from him,
Later on the we discovered that the "WiFi" that is promised in there brochure,is not working at all in privet computer (laptops, iphone) , when asked the man about it and asking for help he mumbled something and put off that it is a problem..
Last thing is, there are 2 Rottweiler dogs "guarding" the house, very aggressive and mostly scaring the guests ,at night one of them was out of his "leash".
What can I say...we moved in the morning right away!

Great hotel with a Greek theme. Lovely white buildings, blue trim, hammocks and BBQ with a fantastic view of the ocean. Great hotel or hostel with kitchen and nearby restaurant coming soon. Short walk to beach, can organize tours and transfers and they also have laundry service. Some staff were more than helpful, others needed to be prodded.

Hi, we stayed in this hostal for 3 nights... little more expensive than others, but the private rooms (2 cabanas) are new, very clean and they have a little kitchen, tv, and a refrigerator. If you ask for a discount and they give you, they will not switch on the air conditioned to save in electricity. that is the only bad part...for the rest was a nice stay with my family and the staff is friendly.

Room Tip: The 2 cabanas (private rooms) are the best ones, more expensive, but If you are a couple I will reco...
