My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the Victoria Day weekend at Severn Lodge.
It was our first visit there and upon arrival we were a little unsure where the check in was. There were only 2 signs that indicated "No parking for more than 10 minutes". Of course that meant check in was straight ahead, but it would have been nice for a least a small check in sign to make it seem a little more welcoming for first-timers like us.

The Watersedge room we stayed in was quiet, spacious (2 queen beds), comfortable and warm (It's been quite a cool spring).
We enjoyed canoeing, the paddle boat and hiking. My boys (ages 5 and 7) had fun in the sand at the beach and at the play structure. They dribbled the basketball behind the lodge and threw the football around with dad. There many things around to keep the kids busy.
The buffet breakfast was good. Lunch choices were very good and dinner was even better. Dinner dessert was the best...had an amazing slice of chocolate cake!! Husband said the house wine was pretty good.
The young staff were friendly... some more than others.
I would love to have another holiday at Severn Lodge (and would bring mosquito repellant during the summer).

Room Tip: It's quiet away from the main lodge and inn rooms.

We have not stayed at the resort, but visit by boat during the summer. Lunch is very good. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The resort is a piece of 'old Muskoka'. We love going for a visit and take all of our visitor there on our way to 'Big Shute'. Well worth the effort.

We went to Severn Lodge the second week of September for an extremely excellent off season price. We went Monday- Friday morning for less than $275.00. There was only about 3 couples staying there and we had a great time.. no crowds, access to all water equipment, pool and full breakfast was included in the price of the room. Dining room was fully open and the staff were great!! They treated us as if we were celebrities!! The only thing is the dinner is a bit expensive approx. $40-$60 dollars per person and the closest restaurant is about 15 minutes away. We treated ourselves to dinner one night thru the week and the food was amazing!! The resort is a little remote (approx 37 minutes from Midland and approx 45 minutes from Gravenhurst). Our room was on the second floor and the view was fabulus..all are lakeview but this one really close to water. So nice to wake up to the peace and quiet every day. If you are a couple who could use a little break away this is the perfect setting. They have a movies channel set up to show a movie each night. Not a huge party place at this time of year but we were not looking to party... Loved it and would go back in a instant!! Thanks to the great staff!! Especially Isabella in the dining room!

Severn lodge has two big things going against it. Small dark dingy rooms, and very expensive rates.

The definition of Dingy is gloomy and drab, and that is what these rooms are like.

We rented a two bedroom cottage for a single night - the one bedroom cottages were so dark and dingy we had to upgrade to the two bedroom. It was nothing special - no great view, no wonderful feel, basic decor, polyester bed covers. It was $550 a night. It should have been no more than $89 or $99 a night.

Otherwise, the setting of the lodge is in a quiet bay, the main lodge dining room is old style cosy, the staff are friendly.

The water is warm although very weedy off the beach.

In the area, it is much better to go into Port Severn and stay at the lovely Christie Mills or Rawley Resort, much cheaper and ten times nicer.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay at Severn Lodge. I am sorry to hear that the room you stayed in did not meet your expectations. All of our rooms except for 4 rooms have been totally redecorated over the past 3 years, and those last few are due to be redecorated for our 2014 season. You can view pictures of all of our rooms at our website.

Our rates may seem high for a one night stay, but they do include more than just your accommodation. They include all meals, use of extensive resort recreation facilities, supervised kids activities, evening entertainment, and more. Also, the longer you stay the lower your rate is per night. We consider our rates very competitive with similar resorts. You said that you were with your family, and I would add that we have many packages throughout the season where kids are heavily discounted or even FREE. Although very nice properties, your comparison to Christie's Mill and Rawley Lodge is not totally fair as their rate is per room (not per person) and unlike Severn Lodge, they do not include all meals, evening entertainment, supervised kids activities, and use of recreation facilities. It may be possible that you have been charged incorrectly, so if you would like me to review your charges, please give me a call. My name is Rick.

I hope that you will give us another chance, and if you do, I will personally make sure that your stay is very enjoyable and that you will leave totally satisfied. Thank you again, and I will look forward to hearing from you.

My husband and I and two grandchildren (ages 5 and 3) spent four nights at Severn Lodge. The lodge is well maintained and has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. There are numerous activities for children and adults alike, and the kids clubs are staffed with wonderful teens who were clearly enjoying themselves while caring for their charges. We chose to do most things on our own and the kids only spent a couple of hours one morning at the kids club. My hubby is very active and the kids had a blast jumping in and out of the swimming pool under his watch. The nice part is that if I chose to go on my own with the grandkids, they wouldnt miss out on a thing because of the kids clubs. (I have some health issues and am not as active as my hubby). We also thought the food was very good, particularly dinner. For example- an appetizer of smoked duck breast salad with feta and watermelon, followed by an entree of lamb, garlic potatoes and the best assortment of vegetables I've enjoyed in a long time.... Wow! Now come a couple of caveats. Check in is between 3:00 -4:00 pm, but unlike many resorts, if you arrive early you arent able to leave your luggage and explore the resort. ( We asked and were told we could not. ) Our room was clean and kind of quaint and pretty, but it was quite small. The twin bed and pullout couch were very uncomfortable. We also found the cost to be quite expensive (well, for us anyway, perhaps others won't think so). The total bill for four nights, with meals, was approximately $2200.00, and that was a special with kids at half price.

Our family enjoyed our 5 night stay at Severn Lodge. Accommodations are basic, staff very good. Our kids (aged 8 and 5) enjoyed the Kids' Club; staff are very flexible and look after the kids well. This kind of kids' program is pretty rare at other resorts it seems, and they do it well.

Lake is really weedy -- would be nice if they could or would cut the weeds back to improve swimming.

Number of boats available were fine most of the time, but at other times, all were gone. Suggestion to add a few more canoes/kayaks, etc.

We rented a power boat for a morning and went around Gloucester Pool. Was a highlight, especially when we stopped at Big Chute Marine Railway -- unique and amazing experience that no one seems to write about. Really worth it for kids and adults alike.

Everyone on tripadvisor seems to rave about the food. We thought the food was OK, not as good as proclaimed. They advertise that most of the food is cooked from scratch, but it is clear that is not the case at breakfast and lunch, nearly all of which is standard/good (but not excellent) food service quality. Most of the deserts at dinner were food service quality (ie: they come in frozen from the supplier). Some of the dinners were pretty good, but some were only OK. The point is: the food is not bad, but in our experience, it was nothing to rave about (unlike what many others say). Just our opinion.

Evening entertainment (ventriloquist, singers) were very good, but it seems sparsely attended, which was ashame from the performers' point of view.

Severn Lodge seems to be one of the few offering this kind of family vacation (Delawana now closed), so by default, that makes it one of the best! A very good value. We would go back.

Highlights of our trip included: the waterfront and water activities; very productive fishing expeditions; friendly staff that had smiles on their faces(espescially Nick our server, and the lady in charge of boat rentals); and of course the AMAZING food...lots of choices on the menu everyday, food was always fresh and delicious. Chef Hubert is totally an awesome chef, and a very gracious man. He cooked us the 6 pound pike we caught that morning for our appetizer that evening... so delectable our whole party raved about it for days! Severn Lodge is an intimate, well run place which we enjoyed greatly.

Room Tip: Sofa beds are defintely not as comfortable as the standard beds.
