For all the people complaining on this website, you need to realize that obviously a single family run resort in the middle of the woods is not going to be the 5 star place of your dreams. I have been going to Severn Lodge for 9 years in a row and every single year gets better. The staff is always great and the food is top notch. Sure it might not be the place of your dreams if you are a 50 year old couple looking for a getaway, but for families with kids and teens, its a great place to spend a few days or a whole week. The rooms aren't great hotel style but they are adequate and who needs that much tv on vacation? The in house movies are fine and that's all you really need, you don't need all those fancy cable channels on vacation. The grounds are clean and the water is nice. The pool is clean, the boats are nice, and the entertainment does get a little old but it's always fun to go to. The feel of the whole lodge is relaxing and the view just adds to it. If you get the opportunity to go to Severn Lodge, go because it is definitely worth it.

We went with a large group, each couple in its own room. The rooms were okay, but worn down and in need of some TLC. Our front porch was unusable due to sewer smells wafting during our entire stay. Nobody actually fixed or addressed this problem, although we brought it up to front desk staff.

My wife and I have no kids, and if we weren't with a group of others who did, we'd probably have been overwhelmed by the way the Lodge is set up for children and their parents. The website is misleading, as are pamphlets and other promo material, as they show loving romantic couples all over the place. In reality, it's a place full of kids aged 1 through 10, and their harried parents. Which is fine, but should be better reflected in the advertising. Lots of kid activities, lots of opportunities for parents to leave kids with staff, it seems.

We did find there was a lack of communication on activities. We had to pursue information at the front desk, where it was doled out sparingly. Example: the boat tour on a vintage Muskoka boat wasn't promoted, and so was cancelled due to a lack of interest.

Food was exceptional - a great menu and specials to look forward to each night. Good wine list. Dining hours at breakfast and lunch were a little limited, but choices and quality of food made up for the narrow window in which to eat it. Our servers were attentive when they were available (they were overwhelmed!). I reject the claim in another review that they were incomprehensible. An aussie accent or a french accent, doesn't matter. Just have to listen. The dining hall WAS inordinately noisy, though!

Overall, it was a good place to be, in a beautful setting -- just not so idyllic as one might like for the price.

All of the servers in the dining room are unable to speak English at a level that we can understand. We had to clear our dishes to the end of the table and had to ask three different servers for a drink. The dining room manager however is a delightful Aussie named Aaron. Aaron did his best to make our dining experiences better, and i feel sorry for him that he didn't get to hire his own staff because I would say that 90% of them were incompetent. The view of the lake is amazing but the grounds are dirty and unkept. the grass is dead and there was garbage bags left on the road by our room for over 5 hours!!! The bar tender Lacey was another highlight of our stay. She was very fun and energetic and made the stay a little bit more tolerable. Whomever was running waterfront was another story. Seemed like he would rather chase butterflies than help us out at the dock. The zebra mussels were terrible, and he did nothing to remove them. I understand that the Severn Lodge has changed hands in the last Six months, but where ever the last owner went he or she should come back to it before this person who owns it now runs it into the ground in a hurry. The food was great as usual, and looks amazing we left the dining room with a full stomach and not a single bad thing to say about the food. Whether or not I'll stay again?!
I'LL HAVE TO CHECK WITH MY DAD

We went with another family at the end of May (Victoria day). very nice place, we had a great time there. the staff were very nice and helpful. our rooms were right on the deck and the heated pool.
The only point that I dont like is the restaurant opening hours, it opened for 1 hour in the afternoon and 1-2 hours in the evening. we booked the rooms with no meals and I think we did the right choice because if you book your room with meals, you will miss our on at least 3 meals if you are staying for a long weekend. I think this trick is to make money out of customers.

otherwise very nice experience, we went out in the evening for meals. 20 minutes drive

I was lucky enough to be employed at Severn Lodge this summer. My partner and I have enjoyed our time at the Lodge and couldn't be more thankful to the owners, Ron & Cindee and Rick & Sue. From the minute we arrived they have been welcoming and appreciative of our work. We have been fortunate enough to meet some great friends from all parts of the world, many of which we plan to visit at some time. The care and love of the Lodge is evident by the Breckbill family and they are to be commended on their hard work and efforts. I would certainly recommend Severn Lodge as a place of employment.

I came across the Severn Lodge website and thought how well presented and user friendly it was so though I would look further! I am glad I did. My family, 2 adults and 2 children (7 & 9) had a wonderful 3 days away. Upon arriving at the Lodge, I was greeted by well presented staff who were only too happy to help. The grounds were well presented and facilities well maintained. Our room had the most spectacular view and was clean and well presented. Our meals were delicious - and nothing was too much trouble for the chef and his team. The servers were bright and friendly. The childrens program hadn't started when we stayed but our children were always busy in the water on the various water equipment. We have reccommended Severn Lodge to many of our friends.

We have just returned from a weekend away at Severn Lodge. My husband, daughter and I had a fantastic and relaxing getaway. It is only 1 and a half hours from Toronto which is a bonus after a long week of work and the price of gas these days! The rooms were up to date and clean, not to mention the great view of the water outside our window. We had a lovely balcony that looked over the water. The staff were friendly, they employ many international staff which is a nice treat. Most of the other Muskoka resorts we have been to before employ college students whom are there for a good time not work, it was nice to have staff eager to help. The food is fantastic, the presentation was impressive too!
My daughter and husband were able to keep themselves busy with the pool and kayaks and canoes, they even were able to take out a jet ski for a hour, while I relaxed on the beach! Lots to do or just relax! Overall we had a very relaxing and pleasent weekend, we even booked a weekend in the fall upon check out!
