Description: The Grill will be closed for scheduled maintenance from Oct 9 2017 until the new year! Stay tuned for an re-open date! Excellent freshly prepared meals served in a warm, friendly setting with outstanding waterfront views. Also enjoy a large over-water and boat-up patio open May-Oct with tropical drinks, great service and a Caribbean vibe. The Grill is open year-round and is also a terrific fall and winter destination with large hearty meals and front row seats for the parade of migrating wildlife stopping off for a rest in the open water visible out every window in the Grill.

Right off the bat upon entering the establishment,we were treated by two unorganized host who passed our party back and forth to each other to be seated, with one of them finally saying "are going to seat them" the other saying " it's your job"
The first replying,"thanks a lot "so needless to say we felt so welcomed. Then after arriving to our seats the menu has a WHOLE LOT OF RULES, dos and don'ts(what?) such a turn off! The staff was unreceptive, cold.a smile would have been very welcomed, and if you have kids with you,WOW refer to page one in your menu of RULES!!!!OMGOODNESSS.
This is all to bad ,because the food was pretty good, the place seemed neat and tidy, but the feeling you get paying good hard money down made it hard to swallow.

Part of the charm of "The Dam Grill" is that we're part of Bush's Marina, located directly over the water facing Lock 45 on the Trent Severn Waterway and in front of a large dam (hence the name). It's a terrific place to sit, enjoy the water and watch boats go by so close you can almost touch them.

Because we're on an active water way on deep, fast running water near a dam and have lots of vehicle traffic in the parking lot and on the water there are many dangers for young children if left unattended.

Occasionally some parents treat the marina like a cottage and let their young children run off and play while they have a cocktail on the deck or finish their meal. Here are some actual examples from our restaurant:

We've found a 2 year old child swimming unattended in our boat launch (20' deep at the end) while a 30' boat was backing in to launch. The parents were oblivious as they were on the other side of the restaurant drinking wine. We've pulled a group of 7 or 8 year olds off the roof of a marina building they had climbed on to after they were sent out to play while mom and dad finished their meal. And we saved a toddler from being hit in the marina parking lot by a delivery truck backing into our loading area. Dad was inside paying the lunch bill and Mom was in the restroom. Both thought the child was with the other parent.

The restaurant is a relaxed and fun atmosphere so to remind parents of the potential dangers we posted the following notice in the BACK of our menu:

"We do not offer a child care service at this marina. Your children must remain with you at your table during your visit.

This restaurant is located in an active marina with deep fast moving water, high vehicle and boat traffic and heavy equipment in operation on the property. There are many dangers and children of any age should not be left unattended."

It goes on to list several examples from above such as "no swimming" due to deep, fast running water and heavy boat traffic.

Hopefully our guests will see this for what it was intended - an attempt to keep children safe - and not simply "rules for dining".

We have tried the restaurant many times since they opened as it is a nice attmosphere on the water. We never have had good service. We have had wrong food brought, waited 30 mins for a glass of juice because they were waiting for the "small" cups to be washed and using a larger cup would mean they couldn't measure how much juice we should be getting. Another day we couldn't get water because they ran out of water glasses. Always an issue, never an apology or willing to quiclky resolve. There seems to plenty of staff working but they are very poorly trained in customer service.

We visited the Dam Grill on Canada Day, just because we were passing through Port Severn at lunch time, on the way North. What luck, it was terrific!! The staff were all dressed in red, embracing the Canada Day fun without ever losing their professionalism. We commented at the time how young the staff seemed, but how well trained they all were -- Well done whoever looks after that! I asked our waitress for her recommendation and the beef dip I got was delicious. Our friends shared the nachos, and it was a huge pile with generous toppings. I don't remember what my husband had, probably because he ate it so fast that I didn't get a bite :-) There were some interesting beers on tap too, for an added bonus. And all this good stuff hasn't even mentioned the fact that you're sitting on a nice breezy deck overlooking the blue water and the shiny boats of the marina --- really, does it get any better than that for Canada Day?
