“A beautiful resort in the middle of nowhere”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

The drive down to the hotel is quite daunting, however upon arrival you are greeted by a beautiful log cabin style property. Everything was of course covered in snow and quite beautiful. Check is is not until 4pm which is not really convenient, and you will not get your room earlier-especially during the Holiday Season. The front desk offered to take our luggage which was helpful. Before you arrive you should sign up for activities. The activies are alwasy booked and even booking in advance we still did not do everything we wanted. Day 1 we did the Sugar Shack with our tour guide Danny "Beaver" who was amazing. The activity was great fun and I would recommend it to all. We later saw Danny at the 6pm ice bar out on the back porch (pay for thru activity desk). Day 2 we did dog sledding with Phillip and his team, also a great experience, but no matter how cold it is outside, it is better to be driving the dogs then sitting (DRESS WARMLY). Day 3 we did a snoeshoeing adventure around Lake Atocas, and then snowmobile in the afternoon which was great.
The food in the restaurant was really good, depite other comments on saw on here, we thought it was good for a hotel.
The Massage i got was amazing, from a lady named Annie-and the GEO spa even though we had coupons is expensive for what it is, but the views were nice. Also find it weird there is no gym.
The wireless internet worked in my room, but was spotty and despite being free it was not really working.
The lighting in the rooms is too dim, or just add more lights. The closest was fine, the beds are comfortable.
The water pressure in the shower was horrible-really hard to wash soap off.
Overall the staff was amazing, everyone was really helpful. The activities are run by people who really care about what they are doing and who are really friendly. I would reccomend this to all.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a high floor, the ceillings and walls are thin. Ask for view of the lake,

Sacacomie is a spectacular log cabin type structure in the middle of no where. There are lots of proposed activities that you should think to reserve in advance of your arrival. The food service is well done considering the size of the place. And the view of the lake and hills is breathtaking. Our disappointments were numerous; very little closet space in the rooms, very spotty internet service despite the lack of TV, no map of the hotel to be found in the rooms or lobby, no decent hotel shop in case one were to forget something, no access to observe the GEOS Spa before paying.....very frustrating

Room Tip: Try for lake view

We are thankful for your comments and advices. They will be considered. In fact, we have no access to observe the Geos Spa however, the person at the reception will be pleased to show you the facilities using a visual support. We will be pleased to welcome you again at the Hotel.

Imagine this: Far off the beaten track, total wilderness, freezing cold, tons of snow and a big log cabin type hotel complex with multiple star comfort, exceptional gourmet cooking, plus amazing and attentive service, and you are ready for a life-time experience of back-to-nature relaxation. In the cozy atmosphere of the hotel, you are pampered by true professionals. In the spectacular outdoors, you enjoy your favorite activities in the company of friendly guides. Discover the thrill of a dog drawn sleigh ride, track wildlife, enjoy the Spa, sip a glass of wine by the enormous fireplace, then have supper prepared by a master chef – before retiring to your spacious room with its own fireplace and Jacuzzi, and a balcony overlooking the amazing scenery with the ice-covered lake and the immense forest. We felt like Queen and King, with their two Princesses. Fabulous. Or better: F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S.

This is a really well-run, great hotel. We were there for three nights, after a pretty hectic 9 days touring in Canada, all booked through Trailfinders UK (a fantastic company). Our room was wonderful and we delighted in the absence of a mini-bar and flat-screen TV - think simple log cabin but much bigger and with a very comfortable bed, jacuzzi and great bathroom. The walking trails around the lake were great fun although signage was not that good and did not really agree with the maps that we had. The bear and beaver-watching evening was memorable even though the bears did not oblige on that occasion - our lovely french guide was superb. Meals were very good and most efficiently served. There was a large wedding party going on the weekend that we were there but as ordinary guests we did not feel that the quality of service was affected in any way. The spa was ok but we felt it was in need of refurbishment - the line between 'back to nature' and 'a bit untidy' seems to have been crossed. The indoor pool was rather small and definitely in need of a face lift.
But if you need a spot of R & R on a serious tour, go for it, it is a wonderful place. Make sure you have some good anti-mozzie spray in your suitcase.

The surrounding nature is beautiful, the scenery is amazing and the fireplace in the entrance just adds the warm and cosy touch to a beautiful hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful but we were somehow dissappointed. The food was good but not tremendous and we were very surprised to see that the spa wasn't included in the room rate. 50$ (-10$ for hotel guests) for a little spa is way too expensive. There were outdoor pools and hot tubs on the website's pictures and upon arrival the lady at the spa reception told us there were no outside pools... Plus, they wanted us to pay 8$ for mandatory sandals.
We ended up in the free small and dark hotel pool which was almost as cold as the rainy weather outside.
I recommend the spot for romantic pictures or a romantic night with view on the lake but if you can find a better restaurant and a spa in the area, go ahead.

Thank you for your comments. The GEOS Spa is very complete with its 3 Jacuzzis (2 outside), a hammam, 2 saunas and a cold waterfall.

A two day visit for a business conference. The hotel is beautiful and I found it to be surprisingly quiet at night. The log construction really deadens noises. The food was excellent, particularly for a conference with a large number of people to be served. Cellphone service was spotty, the hotel is significantly above the lake so you have to take a switchback walkway down and there are no signs showing the direction to the rooms. The walkway to the lake would not be appropriate for young children or the elderly. I got off the elevator on the second floor and there was not a single sign indicating where the room was. Also, I went out for a three hour walk on their trails and there were no maps and very few signs until I was about 1 1/2 kms. from the hotel and the map nailed to a tree did not even show the trail I was walking on, just one that crossed it. Tried the archery activity and quite enjoyed it. All-in-all lovely.

Back after 12 years and location still had the wow factor.
We booked the same suite 231 and really nothing has changed. If thats good or bad is up to you.
Since our last visit they build the Geospa and its really good looking, althoug bit difficult to get spa threatments but that might be because of the language issue. Bit of adventure to find it.
Restaurant: serivice great but food could be more special. Breakfast was good.
Bar: although older staff they really made you feel at home so good job.

Just stay on top of thiings otherwise you might lose grip. Location remais great but hikes and the stairways down to the beach need improvements
