“Nice Renovation”

They did a great job of renovating. Rooms are new, spacious, and very nicely done. Large work desk with outlets. Free ‘in room’ coffee. Free Internet that’s fast and reliable. Flat screen TV with selections for French or English. Thermostat controlled heat that is very efficient.

Beds are new and exceptionally comfortable. The Hotel is off the beaten path. There’s nothing around, but there’s no traffic noise either. Close enough to the Motorway as not to be inconvenient.

I went to the restaurant for dinner. It was OK, but not great. When I asked for the bill, my waiter said OK, and then totally ignored me. I waited 20 minutes before I got up to leave. It was then he called me back to sign the bill. Made me a bit angry.

I tried the breakfast before leaving. Very good selection.

This hotel could have a perfect rating if the restaurant staff weren’t so rude.

They havent quite finished converting this former Novotel to a Holiday Inn but what they have finished is good, the rooms are much nicer although we seem to have forfeited the separate loos for an all in one bathroom. The restaurant has a slightly 'trucker' ambience' but the food is good and the bar is much as before. Winter rate of 61 euros very welcome. The paint finishes and the
actual cleaning up after the decorators need the inspection of the hotel manager, not good seeing paint flecks all over carpets and things not hoovered up of wiped up properly, but that is a small point.

Room Tip: ask for one with a bath

This hotel is not matching any standard of the Holdays Inn I've been to.
Except the bar that seems to be totally new the rooms are from another century ! the carpet on the floor has stains on it, there are spider's web on the walls, unlimmted stains on the chair in the room, the sofa looked so tired that I didn't even try to sit on it. Last but not least, the sink in the bathrrom was clogged.
I believe the rooms bellow number 132 are under work but that is less than 20 rooms total !
It is also away from everything ! It cost 40 Euros to go there by taxi from downtown Lille.

Just don't go there !

After reading previous reports we contacted the hotel to see as their brochure states that the building work had been completed, we were assured it was.

Arrived at the hotel that looked more like an open prison than a hotel , in reception a family of four were already having heated conversation with the receptionist who clearly could not find his way around the computer issue, after ten minutes it was our turn, noticing the builders equipment still in the grounds I asked if work had been completed, the receptionist assured me that it was,
I short, it was not, we had to navigate around builders equipment to our room, a spare door and frame was propped up against our room door, the room was great, no problems with that, would liked to have seen pottery cups rather than paper cups. However hammer drills started next morning , and went on all day.

By the way the refurbished swimming pool , yes its full of rubble dispite the hotel brochure stating it was refurbished in the summer of 2011, further to this the business facities do not appear to be avlaiable as stated from the summer of 2011

The bar area , well I have seen more atmosphere in a dentist reception, bright fluorescent lighting, yes in this day and age , and staff that seem to want to hide behind the scenes and laugh and joke rather than serve.

Many thanks for taking the time to inform us of your experience in our property. Your comments are greatly appreciated since they give us the opportunity to improve our level of service.

I deeply regret if you had not been informed the renovation works are not yet finished in the hotel. I understand you had to suffer from this situation despite the measure taken to separate works and guest areas. We will certainly reinforce this separation immediately to avoid this happens again.
For what concerns your room experience, I thank you for your positive comments which prove our efforts to renovate the hotel are giving some result. Regarding the pottery cups, please note we have just received a delivery today and they are already available for our guests.

To end, we appreciate your comments regarding the bar ; our architect is working on this topic and some improvements are planned for the decoration of this area as soon as possible.
I apologize for the inconvenience during your stay and hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again in Englos in our fully renovated hotel : we are almost there !

2 adults and 2 children sharing a room, The 2nd bed was a pull out but the room was spacious and the bathroom a decent size. Building work is still going on so the outside is messy, but it was obvious that the management had done everything to minimise the impact.

The restaurant has a limited men, but the food was fine and reasonably priced.

Although just re-branded as Holiday Inn, and with renovations still ongoing, our welcome was friendly and staff throughout the hotel went out of their way to be helpful and friendly.

Our room was spacious and light, very comfortable and equipped with a flat-screen TV. Large and comfortable bed and a stylish and comtemporary bathroom with walk-in shower.

Food in restaurant was well presented and sensibly priced.

Hotel is about 5 minutes from Englos Regional Commercial Centre and about 20 minutes from Lille City Centre.

Perfect for business travellers or those passing on their way to or from the channel ports.

We arrived, having booked a twin room, to be told there weren't any available due to the building work. We were offered, initially, a room with an extra large bed. Not appropriate for a mother in her 70's and son in his 50's. When that was rejected we were offered a room with a 'futon' - probably a conversion of a couch. Again this was reject on the grounds that it wouldn't be as comfortable as the expected twin room with two beds.

We were also offered, during the to-ing and fro-ing between the receptionist and a manager (in his office), a discount of 50% on a second room. This was also rejected.

The manager, at this, came out and offered us a second room at no extra cost. The receptionist then worked very hard to move other booked guests (who hadn't arrived) to enable us to have adjoining rooms. The lift (elevator) was non-functional at the time of our arrival. We went to our rooms with some trepidation, but they were very nicely appointed with desk, reading lamps, multiple switches for many different lamps/lights and also included the expected coffee making facilities. (We'd booked via Holiday Inn so expected all of this!) What we didn't expexct was the included small chill cabinet with a few soft drinks and confectionery snacks. We had a meal in the restaurant and the meal was excellent value.

Room Tip: Wait until the building work is complete, it will be an excellent hotel.
