“Rooms okay but restaurant great”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

We stayed one night in the Wingfield Room and found the experience interesting. The room had very sloping floors (old and quaint so fine for us) but the toilet needed a knack to flush, which sadly I did not have. The rooms were also a bit tired and in need of updating, but clean and comfy for a night stopover. We dined in the restaurant and the menu was varied, great food and wine and very reasonable.

The Castle Inn was a very enjoyable stay. The Wingfield room was welcoming, with a four poster bed and all necessary amenities provided.
The restaurant food was delicious. A skate wing with saffron sauce was a pleasure to eat and the whole duck was cooked so well that it was tender and flavoursome, falling off the bone! Breakfast was cooked to order and it was always exactly what was asked for including 'soldiers' with the boiled eggs, well done!
Staff at all times were most amenable, helpful and sociable. Cannot wait to stay there again!

Just got back from a weekend staying at The Castle Inn. We stayed in the Mettingham room which was perfect for the four of us. The beds were nice and comfy, breakfast was lovely and the staff couldn't do enough for you! Thank you to all (especially Jenny)!

We stayed here two nights, ate here on Sunday evening. Live music by a young singer whose name we didn't note added to the ambience. The service in all areas was superb, the food delicious and our room, Wingfield, was delightful. Both the room and the bathroom were spotless.

If we are in East Anglia again would not hesitate to stay here again and will recommend it to others. Such a contrast to hotel chains, the staff were friendly, helpful but not overbearing.

White walls and wooden floors make this happy blue painted former inn with its very good carefully prepared English food a local favourite. Situated in Bungays prettiest streets, we've had many a good Sunday lunch there with friends. Delightful.

From the time we arrive to when we left everything went like clockwork. Our order for a packed lunch the next day was taken with precision and delivered accordingly. The room was spotless with a comfy bed.
Breakfast was a delight with nothing too much trouble. I think we'll be back!

Room Tip: book early!

We booked all four rooms at The Castle for the weekend of our wedding, and also booked a table for Sunday lunch the same weekend.

We stayed in the rear double room, which had a walk in shower and silk hangings. It was clean and comfortable, and the fizz left for us to say congratulations was a lovely touch. All our others guests said that their rooms were nice also.

Breakfast is all locally sourced and was plentiful and filling. Coffee is freshly made and delicious. As a market town inn, it's definitely a good one!

Sunday lunch...the normal Sunday menu wasn't on due to a busy street market, but food was, again, not a disappointment. We had a bottle of (again, local) wine which was reasonably priced and very drinkable, and a variety of main meals - the hot roast beef sandwich was lovely.

Overall, lovely staff, good prices, honest food.

Room Tip: The 4 poster room is at the front so perhaps not best for light sleepers. The two front rooms have...
