“Stop looking at other places and just GO!”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

We've all done it. Seen somewhere on Trip Advisor get great reviews, booked it and then crossed everything that it'll actually be as good as you'd hoped.
Well, just don't worry. Avithos Resort is just super. We stayed for a week in a superior studio.

GOOD THINGS
1. Resort itself
Best pool I've been in- spotless and gorgeous
Spotlessly clean everywhere
Lots of different types of sunbeds so everyone's happy
Stunning maintained gardens- gave privacy and wonderful flowers, birds and butterflies
Great breakfast buffet
Tasty pool bar snacks- not a huge range but it's not a restaurant- recommend the Greek salad
Very peaceful with views to the mountain
Lovely, fun and friendly staff where nothing is too much trouble. Everything you've read about the service is bang-on.

2.Villa/apartment
Great bed- massive and comfy. Best sleeps I've had in an age
Fab quality linen and towels
Reception gives you fresh beach/pool towels too so you don't need to bother taking
Cleaned and tidied every day- fresh towels when you want
Spacious
Great shower
Great Air conditioning
Little kitchenette with hob/microwave/fridge
More cups plates glasses cutlery etc than you'd ever need
Sweet little patio area - some had balconies or terraces but we had a garden flat

3. Island itself
Resort is just 10 mins walk to local beaches- Avithos was our fave- sandy, shallow and great beach bar. 2 Lovely tavernas there too.
We hired a car for 3 days- cabs are expensive on the island and you really need one if you're going to get the most out of the island. It's quite big and takes about 2 hours to do the whole length. The roads are typically Greek- signs point one way and often mean another but if you don't mind being a bit lost sometimes then it's fun- you're not at work so it's not that bad!
We rented a little Panda for €75 for 3 days through the resort.
The island is mountainous so many roads are VERY windy and not for the faint hearted- take it slow and try not to look down too much and you'll be fine!
The more brave you are, the more amazing places you'll discover- incredible vistas that I'll never forget. Sure, goats and boulders occassionally appear in the road but hey, so what? Beats the M25.
Do drive up to St Georges Castle and eat at Palatinos- AMAZING view and superb food.
Antisamos beach is also a MUST- drive over the mountains to Sami and it's signed from there- great for snorkling as millions of fish and surrounded by trees
Makris Gialos beach near Lassi was great too- luxury beach beds, great bar, clear sea
Myrtos beach- WELL worth a visit but huge currents so quite dangerous if you're not a strong swimmer- the bluest water you'll see in your life. Just go to say you've been.
Drive to the little harbour village of Asos. It's just wonderful. Snorkel in the harbour, eat lovely food and dream of what it'd be like to live there.

BAD THINGS
We didn't stay long enough.

This was our first visit to Kefalonia and chose the Avithos hotel based on these fantastic reviews. We definitely weren't disappointed!

As soon as we got to the hotel (which is only a 10 minute drive from the airport) we felt like we had arrived in an exclusive, very modern looking resort. I say 'resort' but actually it felt like a little community. The pool was big with plenty of sunloungers and its got a great little snack bar which serves good value and very tasty food. The room was lovely and modern, cleaned everyday, and always felt lovely to come back to after a day sightseeing or at the beach.

We stayed for a week but managed to fit a lot in mainly because of how helpful and informative Nikos the hotel owner was. Both he and all the members of staff were the most helpful we've ever experienced and were always willing to help in any way they could. We hired a car for the week which was a good decision as the island is obviously too big to just walk anywhere, but its small enough that you can travel to all the towns and array of beaches within an hour. However, the location of Avithos is perfect because there are two gorgeous sandy beaches both within a 10 minute walk from the hotel that we always loved going to.

It also worth mentioning that on the first night we took a walk to a nearby restaurant but lost our way and found it a little dark to walk back. We called the hotel and Nikos the owner was kind enough to pick us up!

Places we'd recommend would be Antisamos beach (lots of fish to swim with!) Argostolio the capital town which is very vibrant at night and Asos which was our favourite place on the island. But to be honest, everywhere we visited we loved! Apart from Skala which is quite British, it is not a commercialised place at all and you always feel like you are on an authentic gorgeous Greek island.

If we come back to Kefalonia (which we probably will!) there is no question where we will be staying. A big thank you to Nikos and everyone at Avithos for a fantastic holiday.

This was our 4th visit to Avithos and it won't be our last. Not only is the place stunning, Nikos and his team go out of their way to help, nothing is too much trouble. We hired a car for part of the holiday which I would advise, but on the days when we didn't, Nikos or one of his team would take us and pick us up from nearby restaurants or the beach. The pool area is tasteful, it has a beautiful large and clean pool (plus a kiddies pool) with stunning views of the mountain. Spending the day around the pool is such a relaxing experience. The rooms are spacious, attractively furnished with large balconies/terrace and set amongst beautifully maintained gardens with orange, lime, olive trees and banana plants. There is a daily cleaning service with fresh bedding and towels. The local beaches are lovely, and the island has many great places to visit. I have nothing negative to say at all, Avithos is simply superb. Alan, Ros & Charlie

Room Tip: We prefer the rooms furthest away from the lovely reception area but they are all very good

We had a fantastic time at Avithos with really helpful staff who even gave us a lift to a restaurant they recommended. The poolis fantastic as well and so the children were also very happy.

The only disappointment was the limited food available at the pool bar, but there was sufficient for us as we mainly ate out.

We would highly recommend avithos as a place to stay. We would recommend car hire though which avithos resort can also arrange for you.

We spent a fortnight here in August . We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were comfortable and kept spotlessly clean. It was bigger than we'd thought but felt quite small as it is really well laid out. The local beaches were lovely especially avithos. Many thanks to the whole team. Alasdair & Fiona

My partner and I stayed here for a week at the end of July. Our room was clean and very spacious with a lovely view of the mountains from the balcony. The hotel itself has a great pool and beautiful gardens which are constantly maintained. Nikos very kindly took us to a few restaurants in the area and picked us up, which was a fantastic service. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and always helpful and we offer a special thank you to Katerina behind the bar, she is great! The beach was not too far away and wasn't too busy at all so it was very relaxing! It was 7 euros a day for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella, so good value for the day. All in all, we had a wonderful week here and would definitely return in the future. Thank you to Nikos and the team for a great time, from Carla and Ian!

A friend and I stayed at the Avithos Resort for a week in July and had a great time. We found the staff (particularly Nikos) to be extremely helpful and, though most days we went to the nearby Avithos beach, the pool area was well laid-out and always very clean. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Whilst the resort staff were happy to ferry us to nearby locations including Lassi, it's advisable to hire a car/motorbike to get the most out of the area. Though the resort is probably best-suited to families, we were looking for somewhere to unwind and Avithos fitted the bill. I returned to rainy London refreshed and relaxed!
