Super place, with super staff and pool. 5-minute walk to the nearest beach, and local restaurants. We hired mopeds whilst there, and explored much of the island. The hotel is clean, tidy, and the staff are well mannered. If you want somewhere quiet without hustle and bustle, then this is the place. Oh, and the frog pond at the back of the property is simply awesome ... you can hear the frogs at night - so tranquil.

We are a little family with a small child, and we couldn't have been happier with Astra Village. It's quiet, clean, and child-friendly, and the staff are kind, polite and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed the food which was varied, fresh and plentiful. The room we stayed in, part of the newly-built section of the complex, was outstanding. The pool was spotless and inviting, a joy to swim in. The aeroplanes didn't bother us one bit. All being well, we'd love to return next year.

Whilst in no way wishing to detract from what IS a lovely hotel with a relaxed ambience, our experience was tarnished from the beginning. Our room was NOT as we expected! We were allocated room 15 in Block 1 with an immediate, obvious, problem. It is ground floor with a main walkway less than 12 feet which, as a consequence, meant that our room had no privacy whatsoever. If we were to draw back the curtains our entire room was visible to all and sundry. Yes, there was an outside space, a sort of mini patio area with small shrubs by way of a border or screen from pathway, but absolutely pointless. No waking each morning and throwing open the curtains to our room! I found the room wholely depressing, NOT what a holiday should be about surely? Yes, you only sleep in your room but it should feel like a mini `home fom home` for the duration of a holiday. My partner didn`t even unpack! I DID go to reception, on three consecutive days, to request a room change to be met with, understandably given that it was height of the season, that there was no possibility. The room had us feel like were we underground, `hobbit like` almost. Some blocks just down from ours had rooms well and truly below ground level! Also, the window in the bathroom was overlooked by another room`s washing maiden which led to some embarrassing moments if we had neglected to close it. The window is immediately above the toilet which meant that anyone outside would be looking down into our bathroom, actually over the toilet. Not acceptable I`m afraid!
The room itself is `compact` with pretty much everything you`d require for the duration of stay. However, my partner and I went for a walk one evening, after dark, and were astounded to see that other rooms in most all blocks, had mounted, reasonably large, flatscreen televisions in their rooms. Our room had an old styled, FIFTEEN inch screen television, mounted high in a far corner. Again, you don`t holiday to watch TV but surely there should be some level of parity?
The hotel is really relaxed, chic, almost with a boutique feel. It was full of families but it is holiday season and there was never any rowdiness or any great noise. We ate only breakfast which was fresh, varied and plentiful. Staff were excellent, attentive and hard working.
On the subject of noise I`ve read comments that the airport being so near isn`t intrusive. The hotel cannot do anything about the fact the planes were taking off at gone 11pm. If your room is facing the runway, as our was, you WON`T be getting an early night. You`re, obviously, not going to have a lie-in either as the planes arrive nice and early! Not Astra`s fault but if you are facing that direction it IS intrusive.
I`ve visited Kefalonia before. I travelled up to the Astra and was taken by its look and the reviews on my return to the UK. Consequently we booked our room in early January and couldn`t wait to arrive. Kefalonia is a stunning island with something for everyone, our stay was quite literally overshadowed by a room that we sould have been forewarned about. Yes I`ve been, seemingly, overly critical about a room that you only sleep in but it marred our experience.
My suggestions to the hotel would be to ask people if they`re fine in a ground floor room. Families with young children and older people might not appreciate climbing flights of stairs to a floor above ground level? Have guests made aware IF they are facing the airport`s runway. Create PROPER screens around ground floor apartments. Address the ridiculously sized televisions in some rooms. This last suggestion possibly a tad petty but all are paying guests and deserve parity.

Room tip: Ask for a room ABOVE ground level, hopefully NOT facing the airport`s runway.

Dear guest,
I am sorry that you did not have the experience you were expecting to have from our hotel. I have been notified from the reception that you have asked for a room change during your stay, but as we were fully booked, we could not find an alternative.
You have booked a garden view room though, so this was the room type you had been allocated.
For better views and more privacy a Side Sea view room in upper floor would be the one to book, and not a garden view room.
We also have more room types as the deluxe premium rooms, junor suites, premium suites, so not all rooms have the same facilities.
The garden view room is the standard room that has minimum facillities, and that is the lower rate comes for.
I hope we may have the opportunity to offer you our services in the future, but please make sure you book a Side Sea view room, according to your wishes.
Kind Regards
Irene Kouvielou

Stayed here for second year in a row in July 2016. We were very impressed with outer room and the cleanliness of it and th hotel overall. It is a great location with a lovely beach and restaurants in walking distance. I liked being near the airport- very few flights so was not a problem.
I would only do half board if you are keen on seafood, we did breakfast only this year as it is a small hotel so buffet choice is limited though breakfast was good. Very likely to return for another stay in future.
