Had a wonderful family holiday - everything was just right! Facilities were very good - you probably need a car if you are staying for a week or so. There are many local rocky beaches and coves - we preferred these to the sandy ones in the end - bit slippy getting in and out but you dry off without the sand sticking to you which is on balance more comfortable. The Palazzo has some good quality bicycles so if you are adventurous there are plenty of local villages & markets to visit The staff are just terrific and we will return soon I hope.

Can't speak highly enough about this place!
• Beautiful grounds: you can relax in an orange grove, next to the pool or outside your room in the courtyard
• Amazing food: they serve a really good dinner every night, taking the stress out of finding a place to eat - especially in the low season
• Really cool rooms: ours had a jacuzzi in it!

Great place for a relaxed couples holiday!

Mauro and his staff are terrific, they could not have done more to make our 4 day stay a pleasure. This included cooking us dinner one night, and then arranging a wine tasting on another which turned out to include dinner at remarkably good value. The rooms are excellent in size- large bedroom, large bathroom and seating area, and cleanliness- hard to imagine anyone would want more. At the price, PG is highly recommended. Only downside is that Vignacastrisi whilst having its own charm doesn't quite match up to what else is on offer in this extremely rich part of Italy- Ostuni, Monopoli, Pagnanello, Matera, Lecce; and hence the 4 star rating- PG transported to any of these places would easily be 5 stars, but also a MUCH higher price.

We had a fabulous stay at the Palazzo. We stayed a week and even out of season we found the people and area delightful. Maoro who manages the Palazzo was very helpful as were everyone else working there. We had a fun evening learning how to make Pasta and then eating what we had prepared. Thoroughly recommend this B&B with extras.

We stayed a week at the Palazzo at the end of June this year. We stayed in the appartments which were very comfortable and very well equipped. The Management and Staff were all friendly, hospitable and helpful, breakfasts were super and the Palazzo had a very sensible self-help, honesty policy for drinks. Would not hesitste in recommending this accommodation to others.

Room Tip: Try to book the appartments.

This place is heaven! We spent 2 nights at Palazzo Guglielmo and will for sure come back! Everything was perfect - from the warm welcome to the delicious breakfast, served in the beautiful garden. The rooms are spacious and very well decorated. There is no better place to relax and discover beautiful Salento!

We stayed here for 3 nights on a tour of southern Italy and it was truly fabulous! The welcome is warm and you feel like you are staying in a wonderful family home. Our room had a great terrace with sun loungers. The location is good to explore the coastline (visit Porto Badisco beach). There is an honesty bar which is handy! The breakfasts were stunning with amazing cakes and cheesecakes! The hotel has been renovated to a high standard and there is plenty of areas to relax round the pool or in the gardens. Highly recommended.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Palazzo Guglielmo is just one of the many aristocratic medieval palaces located in the Terra d'Otranto area, all witnessing the economic power of this land during the historical period from the late 17th century to the birth of the Kingdom of Italy. At that time, the ground floor was used for the offices and the warehouses to put the olive oil, the wine and the food coming from the fields. This floor was crowded by the housekeepers, workers and farmers that since early morning worked in the garden or in the lounge. The present breakfast room was originally a horse stable, while the swimming pool area was full of chickens and rabbits. Food was stored inside the wells located on the left of the lounge, while one of the rooms was used as a garage for the only car that was present in the town. Granaries and storerooms were located in the cellar. The rooms where our guests stay, used to be the kitchen and the laundry. Here the housekeepers washed the laundry with hot water and ashes or prepared the cheese using fresh milk. Workers, shepards, men and women were involved in different activities, among which were the maintenance of the palace and of the warehouses. At the beginning the main sources were corn, oil and wine but when the tobacco was introduced, the palace was enlarged in order to include the new product. The new part of the palace included the tobacco warehouse (Via Napoli), where during many years the local women worked. The palace became the economic and social centre of the village and its importance grew during the years, especially after II World War, when the family started to deal with politics and administration. In some special occasions the palace was also used for popular and religious festivals. One of these occasions was the celebration of the festival for the Saint Protector (the Virgin of the Holy Rosary), that takes place in October. ... more   less
