We stayed a week at the Palazzo at the end of June this year. We stayed in the appartments which were very comfortable and very well equipped. The Management and Staff were all friendly, hospitable and helpful, breakfasts were super and the Palazzo had a very sensible self-help, honesty policy for drinks. Would not hesitste in recommending this accommodation to others.

Room Tip: Try to book the appartments.

This place is heaven! We spent 2 nights at Palazzo Guglielmo and will for sure come back! Everything was perfect - from the warm welcome to the delicious breakfast, served in the beautiful garden. The rooms are spacious and very well decorated. There is no better place to relax and discover beautiful Salento!

We stayed here for 3 nights on a tour of southern Italy and it was truly fabulous! The welcome is warm and you feel like you are staying in a wonderful family home. Our room had a great terrace with sun loungers. The location is good to explore the coastline (visit Porto Badisco beach). There is an honesty bar which is handy! The breakfasts were stunning with amazing cakes and cheesecakes! The hotel has been renovated to a high standard and there is plenty of areas to relax round the pool or in the gardens. Highly recommended.

I recently stayed at the Palazzo Guglielmo and can safely say it is on the best villas / hotels I have ever stayed in. The setting is beautiful; the surrounding lemon trees, peace and wild herb garden ensure you feel like you are on holiday from the second you arrive. The comfortable yet opulent style ensures first class treatment without any pretension.

Without making it sound like I work for them ( which I happily would) I can not fault any aspect of the holiday, from the team of Gardeners who pride themselves on perfection, Mauro's sense of humour or standard line 'it's not a problem' or Christina's scrambled egg every need was taken care of and nothing was a 'problem'

I didnt have a car during my stay which whilst meant we were somewhat restricted this was purposeful and showcased that spending nearly five days encased in the Palazzo was more than enough of a holiday.

I can not recommend a visit to this place, but please one at a time so as not to spoilt it..

Room Tip: The bikes are great quality and make perfect transport if you choose not to hire a car.

The architecture and finish of the palazzo are amazing, matched by the personal service where nothing is too much trouble. And the food is fantastic. The local town is very relaxed and everyone is very friendly, particularly those at the local bar!

Palazzo Guglielmo is a special place... You feel like you're staying with friends in their home, with delicious home cooked meals, including a fantastic breakfast, going for langorous swims, lazing around in the hammock, going for bike rides... Mauro and Christina are amazingly helpful, warm and generous people going far beyond any expectation. The room we stayed in was part of a new extension and as such lacked the "luxury" feeling of staying in the palazzo but it was well stocked, well cleaned, light-filled and had their own private balcony. The property is very child-friendly as well, except for the pool where a small toddler may require a supervision as it's not fenced. Our daughter had a blast running around and playing in the kids' areas.

We spent 10 wonderful days at palazzo guglielmo this summer and would thoroughly recommend it. The rooms, garden, pool and roof terrace are fantastic and everything has been done with a real attention to detail - it seems that they have thought of everything you could possibly want or need during your stay. Cristina, Mauro and Sergio who run the palazzo are all extremely friendly and helpful (as are all the locals) - nothing is too much trouble for them. A delicious breakfast is served on the terrace every morning (including a selection of homemade cakes!) and its also possible to eat a light lunch and a four course dinner there too, which is delicious (and reasonable). There is also an honesty bar which includes good local wines and is also reasonably priced. You can borrow bikes (and helmets) from the palazzo which came in very handy for getting down to the beach and exploring some of the local villages. Finally, there is a little bar next door which serves prosecco for €1.50 - what more could you ask for?!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Palazzo Guglielmo is just one of the many aristocratic medieval palaces located in the Terra d'Otranto area, all witnessing the economic power of this land during the historical period from the late 17th century to the birth of the Kingdom of Italy. At that time, the ground floor was used for the offices and the warehouses to put the olive oil, the wine and the food coming from the fields. This floor was crowded by the housekeepers, workers and farmers that since early morning worked in the garden or in the lounge. The present breakfast room was originally a horse stable, while the swimming pool area was full of chickens and rabbits. Food was stored inside the wells located on the left of the lounge, while one of the rooms was used as a garage for the only car that was present in the town. Granaries and storerooms were located in the cellar. The rooms where our guests stay, used to be the kitchen and the laundry. Here the housekeepers washed the laundry with hot water and ashes or prepared the cheese using fresh milk. Workers, shepards, men and women were involved in different activities, among which were the maintenance of the palace and of the warehouses. At the beginning the main sources were corn, oil and wine but when the tobacco was introduced, the palace was enlarged in order to include the new product. The new part of the palace included the tobacco warehouse (Via Napoli), where during many years the local women worked. The palace became the economic and social centre of the village and its importance grew during the years, especially after II World War, when the family started to deal with politics and administration. In some special occasions the palace was also used for popular and religious festivals. One of these occasions was the celebration of the festival for the Saint Protector (the Virgin of the Holy Rosary), that takes place in October. ... more   less
