“A Great Find in a Great Location”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

With our need to drive from NYC to Montreal, we planned to cross into Canada around 11pm. The Best Western Hotel Saint Bernard is perfectly situated almost walking distance from the border crossing. (The Canadian Officer at customs correctly advised to go to the 3rd stop sign as we negotiated the high security border area, make a right and a left, and it's there.) The property is immaculately clean and could not appear newer although it is at least a couple of years old. Although the rooms are smaller than those we've been used to seeing, the rooms have every convenience, including a Keurig coffee maker with a selection of pods. The included breakfast was a full, sit-down meal with eggs, toast, cheese, fruit, toast, coffee, etc., served by a waitress, in a magnificent dining room that's adjacent to another restaurant room that has a full cocktail bar! There's a huge, well-stocked gift shop with a large selection of perfumes and there's a surprisingly complete exercise room, accessible only by a flight of stairs. Since it was October, it was understandable that the outdoor pool was closed. And the daytime Front Desk Clerk, Wendy, could not have been nicer or more helpful!!

I stayed here on August 9 and 10. Checked in around 9 pm and went very smoothly. You don't save any money buying your tickets with the "package" You have to drive over to your room in a separate building unless you are staying in a "suite". The front door is unlocked at all times, so anyone can go walk the halls and swim in the pool. This building has no elevator so be prepared to carry everything up the stairs. One ice machine was out of order. Comfy beds and pillows our room was very clean and the wifi worked and kept a good signal on the second floor farthest away from the lobby. Tv gets like ten channels and no guide. Saturday morning breakfast was not what was advertised. There is no hot eggs just a huge bowl o cold hard boiled eggs. Could very well have been one or two days old. Also there is no hot meats. You can order food. Two eggs and bacon is 9 dollars. Not worth it unless your pregnant wife is having a craving. The apples were kinda low quality. The coffee kept running out along with the milk and cream. Supper annoying. Other than that pretty good food for "free" 150 bucks a night free. Hotel is very close to the parc safari maybe not five minutes but maybe 7-10 depending if you want to drive the speed limit on Montee Glass. Super narrow hilly road. When we got back from te parc was around 8. There is no room service but you can get take out. Tried call the kitchen twice and it just rang and rang for about six minutes. Went down there and sat at the bar for about six more minutes before I was acknowledged. Then told it would be another five minutes before I could even place my order. Ok. Nowhere else to eat. She came back took my order (two speggittie and chicken quasadea) and said she would call we it was ready in about 40 minutes! Ok thanks. About 45 minutes later the call came. Food was ready. She was really apologetic for the lengthy delay and actually gave me 60% discount. Good thing because the food was pretty crappy. Dinner and breakfast service is brutal. Due to understaffing I believe. The people that are there were pretty nice. The pool floor was slimey and cold but the kids liked it. Would go back if I was goin back to parc safari but would only stay for one night. Hope this was helpful.

This Hotel had all we were looking for. It had easy connect free Wifi, continental breakfast and a very clean room. The design is more residential in construction but that was not an issue. We stayed over night after our drive so that we could visit Parc Safari the following morning. Everything went off without a hitch. Great room, slept well. The continental breakfast was great with many things to choose from including waffles and real maple syrup. Excellent stay.

Hubby and I stayed at this hotel on Friday, July, 26th for one night because we were going to visit the Parc Safari on the following day.

We arrived around 9:00 pm, check-in was not a problem - we were given room 112. The rooms are in a separate building from the main lobby and restaurant.

We were notified by the front desk that the kitchen was closing at 10 pm. Since we had not had dinner, we stopped at the restaurant and got some food to go and ate back in the room.

Here are the pros and cons:
Pros
- continental breakfast was included: yogurt, waffles, cereals, muffins, croissants, coffee, water, juice, toast, bagels, fruits, milk, cheese...
- restaurant staff was friendly

Cons:
- the bathroom was not properly clean and there were dirt spots on our toilet seat
- the wifi in the room doesn't work. Cannot get a signal and network doesn't show up. The wifi worked when in the main lobby or the restaurant, but even then it was like molasses

I would have rated the hotel a 3 star if it weren't for the spots on the toilet seat and the lack of wifi. When choosing a hotel, the wifi is always a factor for us. The fact that wifi is advertised as included but does not work in the room, turned us off. I feel like its false advertisement because most hotels that do not list wifi as included do provide it for free in the lobby but then will have it available in the room for an extra charge. Unfortunately, the option to purchase in the room wasn't a choice. As a result, I had to pay an additional 20 dollars to Rogers to add 250mb to my plan on the iPad to have the Internet in the room. The spots on the toilet was the immediate turn off.

I would say if you are travelling across the border then you should stay here if travel is long enough you need to. If you are looking for a hotel to stay at while going to parc safari, I'd consider other places. After tax the room cost 150 for the night adding the 20 dollars I spent on Internet, that's 170 - not worth it. This is my honest opinion.

Our family decided to go to Canada for Memorial Day weekend, and at the last minute, decided to leave Friday afternoon to start the drive up north. We chose this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and proximity to the Canadian border-literally feet from it! Our room had a kitchenette and two queen beds, and was spotless. It was in the building with the restaurant, and there were stairs only to get down to the room, FYI. Wifi was free and worked without a glitch. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise! Each one of us were served a plate of hot scrambled eggs, croissant, buttered toast, and fruit, as well as coffee. This made the stay a great value for the money! Hotel is easy on/off from the highway, and we were directed to the nearest and cheapest gas station just across the highway by friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again next time we plan a trip to Canada!

We were quite pleased the first time that we stayed at that hotel. However, things have since changed dramatically. The room that we were given at check-in was a mess and it had not been cleaned. They gave us another room after we made several trips in the pouring rain to the front desk (the first room was across from the parking lot). The carpet in that second room was dirty and worn. The overall cleanliness of the room had a lot to be desired (i.e. black pubic hair found in the sink). Since it was late and we were tired, we decided to give up and stay in. We were at this hotel for two days (because it is the only game in town) and the room was never cleaned. We had to ask what appears to be one of the owners for some towels, but she did not even offer to have our room spruced-up after the first day; she was too busy trying to fix a problem with an electronic door lock in an adjacent room. One good thing was the improved quality of their free breakfast. They must have hired a new chef; quality and presentation were of much higher standard than during our first visit. Would you return to this establishment? We will do everything in our power not to.

I stayed at this hotel on February 2nd. It is their slow season and the staff is at its minimum level. The regular rooms unit is about 300 feet walking distance from the reception/restaurant area. My room was clean and satisfactorily appointed for this type of hotel. All basics were covered; there was a cordless phone, a radio/alarm-clock, a small refrigerator, a hair dryer, an ironing board, an iron and a Keurig brewer with a selection of 4 coffees, a nice touch after a long drive. Not to mention the free wireless internet. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were adequate keeping in mind that it is not an upscale facility and that it is the the only "game in town".
Their modest dinner offering consisted of three main courses, all moderately priced. I opted for the chicken Caesar salad which came with a shrimp cocktail ($13.95). The portion was sufficient and the food was good.
The guest lounge of the regular rooms unit was very noisy until I notified the front desk at 10 p.m. The noise level went back to normal shortly thereafter. If you decide to stay in a regular room, request an even numbered room on the second floor. All odd numbered rooms face the highway serving one of the busiest Canadian port of entry and the truck and car traffic is constant. The rooms on the first floor are noisy due to their proximity to the former lobby transformed into a small guest lounge.
A few minutes after I fell asleep, the fire alarm sounded due to an apparent electrical fire. After about 20 minutes in the unit's aforementioned lounge, we were redirected to their two-bed rooms located underneath the reception and restaurant building. With the exception of an additional bed, a sink and some empty kitchen cabinets, the appointment was similar to my first room, but much quieter since these units face a nice wooded area.
Pros: Rooms are a good value for the money if you use a wholesaler/discounter or your CAA/AAA card. The staff is helpful and the property is well kept up.
Cons: Noisy rooms facing the highway and adjacent to the guest lounge. The staff needs adequate "emergencies" and product knowledge training.
Conclusion: I would return and I recommend this hotel.
