Went back for a second visit (last was in March) and were greeted by Jo-Anne (Accommodation Manager) as old friends. She remembered that my wife was planning to retire and we were planning a long holiday abroad - impressive.
We had an even better room than last time - with a patio area and table outside overlooking the lake. Once again a very comfortable room with double bed, plenty of storage space, coffee and tea making facilities, flat screen TV and wine/beer fridge. It is also nice to be in a room with plenty of electricity sockets. The attractive bathroom, slightly smaller than the one we had last time, had a large bath (with shower), washbasin and toilet.
We were next to the (screened) bridal suite which apparently has its own hot tub, sauna and lake!!
Breakfast was again excellent - the full works, as well as fruit, cereals, fruit juices, coffee, tea and toast.
A bottle of wine was provided - Jo-Anne was happy to offer prosecco, red, white or rose and brought over wine glasses and fresh milk.
We took our dog and he stayed in the room for £10 for two nights.
There is no restaurant on the site but there are plenty of pubs serving food on the Gower.
If only Oldwalls could guarantee the weather - it tipped down for most of the time we were there - but the Gower beaches are so beautiful that it was almost a pleasure to get soaked!!
We will certainly be back again and wish them every success.

Room Tip: There are several rooms with their own patio overlooking the lakes.

We stayed at Oldwalls on a living social offer from 12-14 October to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We stayed in one of the standard double rooms, but there wasn’t much standard about it. It had the most amazing view out of the double doors onto a little private seating area and then views onto lakes and stunning countryside. The room was beautifully furnished and the bathroom was big with a massive bath. The rest of the hotel grounds were stunning and immaculately kept – there were ponies and even a llama on the way down the drive!

The staff could not have been friendlier, we have never felt so well looked after and welcome anywhere before. We mentioned to the owner, who we bumped into in the pub (which is also amazing!!) that it was my boyfriends birthday and the next day everyone wished him happy birthday. The breakfast was delicious with loads of choice and really nice quality sausages and bacon. There was a wedding fair on at the hotel whilst we were there and we popped in to have a look around – the venue is absolutely stunning, anyone getting married there is very very lucky! If we didn’t live so far away we’d definitely have been tempted.

Basically we cannot rate this place high enough – we had the best weekend break with places like the Mumbles and Rhossili not far away for lovely walks, the amazing village pub and the kindest and friendliness of all the people we met. Thank you Oldwalls!

We viewed Oldwalls as a potential wedding venue over the summer and thought it was a lovely location for a summer wedding especially as the day we attended was absolutely glorious. We did notice a couple of minor issues such as cigarette ends around the reception area and weeds between paving stones etc but overall it was easy to see why it is a popular wedding venue.
We then decided to follow up our visit by attending one of their Wedding Showcase days to get a feel for how the venue would look on the day. This time we were able to view some of the accommodation which was lovely with beautiful decor and which I'm sure most wedding guests would be more than pleased to spend a night in. (Wouldn't really fancy trying to navigate the steps from the Bridal Suite in high heels and a wedding dress but that's just a personal view).
Free samples of food had been laid on which was an excellent idea. I cant say it was the best wedding food we've tried but what really put us off was that the chef served the food with his hands rather than a utensil - including vegetables! He was, of course, wearing hygiene gloves and I appreciate that is the way kitchens serve out back when mass catering but it's not something you really expect to see front of house in a venue that advertises itself as 5*. Showing off that a particular footballer was holding their wedding there was also something that we could have done without.
With a venue hire charge of almost £6k in summer I would be expecting a little more for my money. Overall I think this is a lovely venue in beautiful surroundings but whilst the accommodation is probably 5* the service and attention to detail is not quite there for me at the moment.

Dear Scarlet2013,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, it was lovely to read your comments as we agree - our Venue and Guest Accommodation are very, very lovely. Earlier this year we underwent a significant renovation and the bedrooms are beautiful in particular our Bridal Suite. The suite has been designed by an interior designer and is really lovely with it's own hot tub, sauna and private terrace over-looking it's own private lake.

With regards to your comments concerning the reception area, thank you, the grounds keepers have already acted on your feedback.

Our Wedding Showcase's are an excellent opportunity for existing Bride & Grooms and prospective Bride & Grooms to experience a 'wedding' at Oldwall's giving you the opportunity to explore our venue and sample some of our menu's choices available on our wedding packages.

The food at Oldwalls is absolutely gorgeous. We have a fantastic Team of Chef's and we pride ourselves on the quality of dishes that are produced here. But they are a snap shot of our menu's not a fully prepared main course - we offer our Bride & Groom's the opportunity to have a tasting session nearer to their wedding day but I have fed back your comments to our Chef's.

However, I would like to correct your pricing on our Wedding Package. Our packages start from £1900 - which are available all year round for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Thank you so much for visiting us, we wish you both all the happiness in the world as a married couple.

Warmest regards

We arrived and were made immediately welcomed by friendly faces. Our room was furnished beautifully and had a lovely terrace with chairs and tables to sit on. The view was of field and 3 small lakes.

We had our evening meal in the Greyhound the local pub which was a 5 min walk away. We had great food at reasonable prices and a great time watching Swansea versus Arsenal with the locals who were extremely friendly. Great night!

The breakfasts were lovely and mine host Andrew provided me a taste of Larva bread on the 2 mornings as I had mentioned it in the pub the previous evening. What great service and care taken for a guest.

Andrew and his staff were great and made us feel very welcome, we will definitely return again.

If you want a beautiful wedding this is the place to go!,,,

Dear Susan T,

Wow - thank you for your review, it is comments like this that keep us motivated and smiling.. and we have to agree with you, Oldwall's is rather special.

Earlier this year we renovated our self catering cottages into 13 beautiful Bedrooms, 3 Luxury Suites and our spectacular Bridal Suite and we are very pleased with the results.

We are looking forward to working with you over the next few months in the build up to your big day.

Visited on 17/09/13 for a potential wedding venue. It is absolutely stunning, the marquee and the ceremony room are outstanding. The rooms are 5 star - we looked around 5 different suites, they were clean and very modern with gorgeous decor.
The staff from bar staff to manager were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent.
Can't wait for our wedding there in may

Just got back from Gower, had a wonderful 3 day break with family and meeting family and new friends.
Oldwalls was just what we needed , clean and modern rooms with the advantage of a good breakfast to set you up for the day.Ideally placed to visit all the local beaches and attractions.
My only negative was on the day of leaving Jan was not on breakfast duty and it suffered a little on service and quality, but overall we had a smashing time.
Would i go again ? DEFFO !
Cant wait to return.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lakes are very nice, we had room 2.
