Good for: Romantic, Local cuisine
Dining options: Late Night, Dinner, Breakfast, Delivery, Reservations
Description: With magnificent views of the Dee Estuary its no surprise that Parkgate has a reputation as somewhere to eat whilst enjoying the beautiful British coastline. As could be expected, it’s our fish and shellfish selection that we take a particular pride in, the offerings extensive, the produce fresh and the preparation lovingly cared for.

I visited the Boathouse with some friends and used some "Special Offer Vouchers" which entitled you to a two course meal complete with half a bottle of wine per person for £15.

We had prawn cocktails (very retro but certainly very delicious) and whitebait (although I had ordered the prawn cocktail I could not resist sampling the whitebait) They were fantastic.

We all had the slow roasted belly pork for our main course and it was served "restaurant style" on top of mashed potato containing cabbage. The dish was topped by cracking which had a delicious chutney underneath which perfectly complimented the pork.

We could not resist a trio of Pargate icecreams to finish off the meal!

All in all the night out cost under £20 per person which also included pre-dinner drinks.

This is an excellent venue - superb location, friendly helpful staff and delicious fayre.

This review is for two visits, an evening meal and lunch the following day. It was that good!
Evening: we were lucky - they just managed to fit us in the restaurant. This place has a good reputation with the locals for excellent food and great value.

Evening:
The menu was interesting and varied, which suited our group, and we were absolutely delighted with the food and the REAL ALES. Service was fine - excellent considering the large groups they were also catering. We had a big, round table in the bar area which was well secluded for our group.

The deserts (which I don't usually enjoy) were really good and rounded the meal off well.

Lunch:
we turned up on spec for lunch, and once again they only just managed to fit us un. We had a table in the conservatory, overlooking the estuary, so were able to watch the wildlife on the marshes. It's a great view. Menu suits formal dinners, but the lunch and lighter options were great. We were so pleased it was as good as the previous day!

All in all, this place really lives up to the local reputation. the food and drink are great, staff friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere very pleasent.
You really, really have to book to be assured of a table, but it's worth the effort. It's not Michelin star, but it's a cut above the average restaurant and way, way better than any gastro pub. Go, Go Go!

Me and my wife booked the Boathouse for our first wedding anniversary and thought the location would be romantic.
We were not disappointed, on arrival we were warmly welcomed by one of the staff and shown straight to our pre-booked window table. After a few minutes, we realised we there were a couple of parties booked for that evening situated adjacent to our table and thought it might be a bit noisy for our romantic dinner, so we asked one of the staff if we could move to a quieter table and we were promptly shown to a quieter booth. We ordered a bottle of red wine and it was brought to our table at perfect temperature. Our meal was delicious and could not be faulted. The staff were all very attentive without being overwhelming and we were able to take our time and enjoy our anniversary. We cannot praise the Boathouse highly enough and although on the expensive side it was definitely worth it and we shall return.

Much improved over how it was some five years ago. The staff of girls in black are attentive and quick. Lunch was enjoyed. The Prawn Cocktail was generous with two slices of brown bread and slivers of cucumber, although a little soggy. My liking for hake came up on the day's special; on a bed of sweet potato, topped with crispy ham.. Delicious; but not cheap at over £16.00.

Take a good look at the standard lunch menu at around £7.50; they look good value. But I would avoid the fish-and-chips. The fish was good but the chips were a disaster; luke-warm soft-sided wedges. Chips should be crispy and very hot. Take a tip from BurgerKing!!

All tables taken for this lunch on a Saturday; we had not booked but a table for two was found. In the big sunny room you look over the Dee estuary. A place much frequented by the over-60s.

Recommended.
