We have now stayed here 3 or 4 times and have been very pleased with the accommodation, food and service on each occasion. The brown shrimps starter is absolutely delicious!

The additional cost for The Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton rooms is well worth it. They are both spacious and well appointed and have lovely views across the estuary.

Stayed at the Ship for a night, whilst in Parkgate for a party. It is a nice hotel with very efficient and friendly staff. I understand the evening meals are good, but we didn't eat in the hotel. Breakfast was very good. Some parts of the hotel (upstairs corridors and stairs, in particular) could do with redecoration, but the room was a good size and well furnished. At £75 per night, I thought it a little pricey for what was on offer, but overall it is a decent place to stay and is very well situated.

Today we had lunch overlooking the wildlife pools of the River Dee marshes at Parkgate, roughly from where Nelson set sail. The choice of menu is wide and the food excellent. The staff are friendly, helpful and extremely efficient. There are an abundance of Hannahs on the staff but Hannah 'M' was simply outstanding. The service was great and we had a lovely meal.

Room Tip: Ask for a table overlooking the Dee estuary.

Had lunch in this place and what a lovely lunch it was. A really bright and airy pub. Three of us had sandwiches which were all on chunky homemade bread with very generous fillings all of which came with a delightful side salad. With three drinks it came to a bargain £22. All of us said we would have loved to have sampled the restaurant menu as some of the dishes sounded delicious. A really good place to go I would recommend to anyone in the area

My first time in The Ship Hotel. Was entertaining friends who live in Parkgate. Had the roast beef and was very pleased with the quality, the portion size and the crisp vegetables. Will certainly eat there again.

We spent one night at the Ship recently and were content with what we found. Great location on the "prom" in the lovely Parkgate. Room, whilst small, was comfortable and clean and the bathroom was a decent size. Breakfast was a while arriving but was good when it appeared. Friendly staff. Only quibble is (and I've only just realised this!), I informed the hotel at the time of online booking that it was my partner's birthday and suggested it would be nice to mark this in some small way - it wasn't. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but the menu looks worth a try - lots of locally sourced meats etc. at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: Views across the Dee will be at a premium but worth enquiring.

We stayed at The Ship for 6 nights from June 11 thru June 17 and could not have been happier with our choice of hotel. For the first three nights my wife and I stayed in Room #25 on the top floor. This is one of four rooms in the hotel which look straight on to the River Dee, and the Welsh hills as well as Parkgate's famous promenade known as The Parade. When our son joined us we moved to #19, a Family Room. Both rooms were very comfortable and very clean. The stairs to the rooms creak with almost every step and you find yourself imagining Admiral Lord Nelson climbing those very stairs on his frequent romantic liaisons with Lady Hamilton. Downstairs you will find the dining room and bar area which also offer the feeling of stepping back in time, in a uniquely British way. The food quality was that of an excellent restaurant rather than of a hotel. The choices were extensive without being pretentious and the portions will have you struggling to find room for dessert. There is a separate room where breakfast is served to the hotel guests. The quality of the full English breakfast leaves nothing to be desired and provides a wonderful start to the day. The Ship is the heart of the action on The Parade and sits right next door to the famous Nicholls homemade ice cream store. A few steps further down the road is a wonderful fish and chip shop as well as a shop that sells freshly caught shrimps and prawns. Parkgate is the perfect base for visiting anywhere on the Wirral. You can be in Chester in under 15 minutes and in Liverpool in no more than half an hour. Note, if you plan on taking the famous "Ferry Across the Mersey" try to do so on a week day when they offer much cheaper commuter rates. As mentioned earlier, from your room you can see across the Dee to the Welsh hills and the drive to places like Ruthin and Bala Lake could hardly be easier. The Ship simply oozes character, history, great food, warmth and coziness. But what makes it even more special is, without doubt, the small but wonderful staff who make you feel so welcome and part of the family. The high standard of service was exemplified by Hannah who served us breakfast, lunch and dinner and always with a smile. For anyone planning to stay on The Wirral look no further than The Ship. My family and I are already looking forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking The Parade.
