“Luxurious lavender retreat on the Forgotten World Highway”

We'd seen the sign to the lavender farm from the jet boat on the Whanganui River. "Poodle" (the jet boat driver) recommended we visit, so we headed back up the Forgotten World Highway to check it out after our tour. The lavender was in full bloom - bees of all sizes were happily dipping between the blossoms. We were warmly welcomed and ordered two coffees and some biscuits to eat. It was late afternoon, and the hostess suggested we take our coffees to a special seat beyond the lavender that overlooked the Whanganui river. She put everything onto a tray and we wandered over.
Lauren's Lavender Cafe is a delightful retreat on the Forgotten World Highway. Watching the Whanganui river go by was extremely relaxing. When we finished our coffee we walked through parts of the lavender garden. The plants are well-established and it's a haven for local bees. There is also a shop at the cafe selling a wide range of lavender products, but they'd sold out of the sought-after lavender honey. This is not a cheap country cafe, but the quality of the products offered is well worth the price. Stop and smell the lavender. It's worth it.

Had Christmas lunch there. Great atmosphere, yummy lunch. Also stopped for a well deserved coffee when canoeing down the river. Seriously yummy carrot cake! The lavender is in bloom.

For some years we have been meaning to go and visit Lauren's Lavender Farm. So make a trip from Taumarunui Cherry Grove on the Taumarunui Jet boat - stunning scenery and lovely hosts. Ideal for families, educational & fun. There is a short walk up the hill from the river to an Oasis in the middle of no where! The scent of the Lavender greets you before you can see it, and wow what a sight. The products for sale are wonderful, the setting superb as is the hospitality. Take time out to stroll through the gardens listen to the birds & bees and enjoy a lovely wine or coffee. Dont rush your visit relax & enjoy! Thanks for a great afternoon we will spread the word & be back ourselves.

This is a place we visit every year before harvesting, when it is a vibrant purple. The ladies are lovely out there and a nice place to sit and relax. Very limited on the menu for a meal, so don't go expecting a big meal as that not what they do. Good products for sale made by the staff from their own grown product or local product. Well worth a visit.

We saw the lavendar farm just after harvesting and it was still incredibly stunning. I can't even imagine how amazing the purple would look before harvest. There is a lovely little cafe here too. Definitely worth a visit.
