“Will return again soon!!”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

My wife and daughter booked a campervan for a weekend get away and chose to stay at Taumarunui Holiday Park for two reasons,
1 it's pet friendly
2 it's close to Mt Ruapehu.

We loved the location, very convenient with the town just a few minutes away and only an hour slow drive to the mount.
Phill, Helena and Mariane were superb hosts and we all loved the company of Dez the friendly dog and Julia the Kuni Kuni pig that thinks she's the boss.
We thoroughly recommend this park for the unique Kiwi experience and will most certainly return.

Spent a wonderful week in the Purora Forest, and walking out needed some rest and resupply. The folks at Taumarunui Holiday Park made me feel very welcome. They came and picked me up at 7:00 at night which was great for this travel beat traveler. Helen and Phil made me feel right at home and Phil even set up tarp over my tent to help my stuff dry for the coming days walk. They have a great place and kitchen were one can gather and get to know the other campers. They made me feel right at home. Found out about their place from a local dairy in town. Thank Phil and Helen!

We stayed at the holiday park prior to doing the Whanganui 5 day canoe great walk and liked it so much, we returned after!

From get go Helene and Phil were welcoming! We'd planned to stay for one night, then we were pleased that plans changed!

The communal facilities are clean and tidy and have a real home from home feel which was just what we needed living from tent site to site. There's a fresh herb garden we LOVED and the kitchen had virtually all you'd need.

This place is very comfortable and homely. Des the Doog is a cutie and the ol' soggie moggie loves attention too!

We stayed on site mostly enjoying the grounds but managed to make it to the glow worms only 15 minutes away. These were impressive and well worth the trip! We've been to Waitomo and were WOWed there but these were almost better!!

I recommend this place to anyone. They have loads of room so the site never seemed over crowded by campers and they also have cabins dotted around for those who like a roof over head!

STAY HERE!

For anyone looking for a clean, picturesque and super friendly campsite, this is the place. Helene and Phil are hard to beat for their kiwi hospitality and the location is fantastic - for those travelling alone or with children.

Highlights for us included swimming in the Whanganui river (one minute walk from our site), the playground for the children, picking Helene's fresh herbs for dinner each night, absolutely spotless facilities, the gorgeous grounds and the chickens, Julia the pig, Des the dog and all the baby chicks, which the children loved.

A big thank you to Phil and Helene for one of our best camping holidays. Also to Marion for her lovely home baked shortbread, which we all got on Christmas day - delicious!

The holiday park is set in a lovely location, right by the river and surrounded by mature trees. Communcal spaces were really well equipped and clean, great showers. Phil and Helene, the owners, we so wonderfully friendly and helpful, well beyond our expectations. They made our time there so much more comfortable as they generously offered their own camping equipment for our use. The pig and chickens added rural charm. I would recommend the park to anyone.

Phil and Helene were great hosts who went above and beyond in the service department. They provided us with so many extras while we were staying there and were more than accommodating to our ever changing plans due to the weather. Ended up staying for new years eve and it will definitely be one to remember. This one is a no brainer, come and visit this place!!

I stayed at the Taumarunui Holiday Park in December 2011. I was there with a big group of people, and we were booked in to canoe the Wanganui river. We arrived and it was raining heavily. A couple of us got the last cabin, but for the rest of us we faced having to put our tents up in the rain. Never fear though, our extremely friendly and accommodating hosts Phil and Helene loaned us one of their tents and even helped us put it up! The tent had a communal area in the middle so we could hang out in there, and mosquito net enclosed rooms either end. It was just so fantastic. The next day, when we were due to start our Wanganui river journey, we were delayed due to rain. So we decided to stay another night. A brief comment about sore backs from sleeping on only our thin bed rolls elicited a fast response from Phil and Helene. Not only did they upgrade us to a bigger tent, they also loaned us camp stretchers, airbeds and foam mattresses so we would have a great night's sleep. They also loaned us chairs and a floor mat so we could hang out in even more comfort! Just incredible.

The holiday park itself is really great too. Really well appointed, nice ablution blocks, good sized kitchen and some really cool extras like a herb garden you can help yourself to! There were also chickens and pigs, which you could feed your scraps, so plenty of fun things to do (for both adults and kids!). There was also a really great looking playground with a big round enclosed trampoline.

All in all, I really can't rate them highly enough! They were absolutely fabulous. Thank you Phil and Helene!
