“A really good stopover”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Forget about street appeal (not a lot), This motel is all you could wish for as a place to stay. Very clean; comfy beds; and congenial hosts. We will continue to use this motel whenever we stop in Taihape. Certainly value for money. Highly recommended.

Our location makes our motel a great stop over place. Thank you for letting people know.

We loved this gem of a Motel. It was clean, comfortable, and the owners went out of their way to welcome us.We actually required 2 seperate beds instead of 1, and this was attended to very promptly and with a smile.
I would recommend it 100% !

This is a little gem! Passing through TAihape, this is a great place to stay. We booked, at a great arte. We advised we would arrive late and with no fuss, the unit arrangements were estblsihed so we could get in. Whilst not new, it was impeccably clean. No odours or smells - just really clean. It had plenty of lighting (dimly lit units really annoy me). The bed was the most comfortable we have stayed in for some time. The thick, fresh sheets matched the soft, accomodating mattress. the owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. Overall, a really good place to stay and we are really pleased we found it.

Room Tip: The road was busy, so away from SH1 is probably better

arrived late at night and was given a room by Manager at a good rate
Room very clean and tidy , older style but had everything one needs
Only issue was i got a room with 2 single beds, and being of the larger size I did roll out , so check to ensure you get a double as the singles are small ot i am to large

Good shower and TV that worked
so all in all value for money and the exterior belies the interior

Room Tip: dont be put off by the exterior

This is the second time we have stayed at The Safari. They have renovated the rooms and the interiors look great. Flat Screens and ceramic hobs! And just to add to the rural Kiwi atmosphere, sheep and lambs baaing (is that a word?) in the surrounding paddocks. Still think this place is one of the best value for money places you can stay on SH1

Room Tip: grab a self contained and make your own brekkie in the morning

Stayed here a few months ago and I forgot to write a review. The rooms although a little dark are very clean and the facilities do the job. I think they offered laundry facilities, which means when I stay again I won't have to bring the extra cycling bib and shirt.

The grounds themselves are tidy and it's only a small walk to the center of Taihape. Both owners are warm and friendly but not too in your face and give you plenty of space.

The best thing is the price and that's what pushes this from an average to a very good. I was on a budget for this trip and the Safari ticked all the boxes.

If you are cycling up from the Wellington Region this makes a lovely ride and the Safari is a great halfway point to Taupo. After Taihape the hills start getting bigger so it makes sense to stop here for the night and start again in the am.

Just make sure you put on your layers as in spring it's very chilly in the mornings.

So basic but good, affordable accommodation.

so you will get noise through the night. But hey! adrenlian andseeing new places take over the tiredness.

Room Tip: try to book ahead of time, that way you can discuss what sort you would like and more than likely be...
