We went on a Monday & were lucky enough to park outside. The waitresses were friendly and helpful. Our order was taken promptly and we didn't have to wait long for our food which was absolutely wonderful. We can only recommend river cottage and will be returning ASAP. They have a loyalty card if you feel you will be able to return. We also purchased from their shop at the front of the building. Again very polite service.

We are frequent flyers here mainly because of what the philosophy of river cottage is about ... Every time we go the food is fantastic and a reasonable price .... I would not venture down to Dorset without stopping by

Food was good but the portions were miniscule. I can't abide this sort of meanness. Very poor value for money.

Drinks are all pretentious, and stupidly priced.

I took some clients and I could see they were left hungry too. It was embarrassing.

Never again.

The food was average. Nothing exceptional. You tend to get a smaller and well displayed meal with a hefty price tag. Sure the food is local and ethical but it doesn't mean you should leave disappointed. We found the service to be really very slow. The waitress had no interest in our table and reluctantly answered questions about drinks and gluten free options. Wouldn't head back in a hurry but wouldn't avoid it. Perhaps we just had a bad night. Worth a shot if nothing else is available. Try elsewhere first.

We were holidaying in Devon and were really looking forward to a River Cottage Canteen breakfast. Oh dear.....what a disappointment, cold plates, cold mushrooms, indifferent service, tired and dirty restaurant....not good Hugh!!! The only plus was that it was, had it been vaguely pleasant, reasonably priced. If you put yourself up as a 'celebrity chef' you really do need to keep your finger on the pulse so get down to Axminster and get it sorted out...quickly, it's not doing you any favours.
