Description: The Guilford Country Store has always been a local landmark in the town of Guilford, Vermont. Founded in 1817, it has seen the town through almost two centuries of changes. In 2010, it had a brief period where it was closed as a business, but Guilford saw to it that their beloved store would not be closed for long. The Friends of Algiers Village Inc., a non profit orginization focused on maintaing the integrity of the Guilford community, brought together a grand fundraising effort over the course of three years. Finally, the doors reopened in the summer of 2013 under the new management of Mark and Suzanne Tessitore, a local couple. The renovation has created a friendly local store environment that offers both indoor and outdoor seating areas in which to enjoy a meal from our deli, or just relax, have a cup of coffee, and surf the web. We sell everything from bait, to ice, to pesto pasta, to mosquito repellant, we have all your lunch and grocery needs so you don't have to drive all the way to Brattleboro! We'll greet you with a smile, take your sandwich order, and even bring it to you as you chat with your friends. Fresh produce is on the way, with local produce in the form of blackberries already on our shelves. We are looking into having a weigh station set up as hunting season rolls around. We will also be selling hunting and fishing licenses for your convenience. Fishing gear will also be stocked as soon as possible. The Guilford Country Store has been revamped and revitalized and we are ready to serve you. Stop in and check it out!

“Classic country store dining”

If you close your eyes and imagine a "perfect" little café in a New England country store you will be thinking about the one in Guilford. Everything here is homemade. Soups are hearty, sandwiches are large, fresh, and very tasty, and the chocolate chip cookies are about as good as they get. The setting is charming, too.

“Lunch potential”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

We stopped here to get sandwiches for lunch and were absolutely delighted by the food and service. The food was scrummy and my local, apple tasted like an apple as did the fabulous apple juice we bought for the trip. I have bought beautiful red apples which tasted of dust before but this local apple delivered on all counts. Taste, colour and value for money. This business deserves
To do well.

“"A food oasis of warmth and style"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

I have been a customer of The Guilford Country Store for decades and the transformation is beyond words. The managers and staff exude a small town display of warmth and make you feel part of the community experience. The have a variety of wonderful salads and baked goods that have delighted my palate The sandwiches are delicious with a offer of various breads. The specials offer a trip to culinary heaven. Catering is offered, which we loo forward to experiencing. The prices are much lower than the other cafes in the area.
The only suggestion I would have is that they might consider ceiling fans which would be functional and add to the already delightful space.

“A small town convenience store takes on a whole new life”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

The newly renovated Guilford Country Store is a wonderful addition to this small southern Vermont town. The interior is filled with light and spacious yet homey at the same time. There is a fireplace, a sitting area, a deli, pastries, local coffee, wine and so much more. So far I have tried the croissants (delicious) and had take out orzo feta salad as well as fresh out of the oven fried chicken. Both were great and makes me want to go back and try other things. The cafe is only about a mile off of Exit 1 of 91 and well worth the stop whther your need food on a much longer trip or live locally and are looking for a place to sit down and unwind for a few minutes.
