We have been on this hotel 3 times now, and we like it very much.
The staff is very helpfull and nice.
The restaurant on this hotel is a good place to eat, and you can sit and look out on the see.
We will come back.

Room Tip: 1 room apartment with breakfast

Stayed here in July when Nidri it was hot, busy but buzzing.
We had garden view rooms but believe some sea view rooms are available. Overall the hotel is good, close to the town and near the beach.
My only concern is that Nidri has more than doubled in size with ‘uncontrolled’ building which has taken away some of the charm of 10 years ago.
Hotel is in good location and quiet.
Would recommend you don’t spend too much time in Nidri town itself but use hotel as a base to explore/sail the lovely surrounding Ionian area.

Room Tip: Try for a sea view room, but garden rooms can be quieter.

The Avra Beach Hotel in Nidri is located on the east coast of Nidri just about 200 meters from the Nidri center. Only four rooms have direct sea view, while the rest is overlooking the garden. Due to a restaurant pavillon theres no side sea view either. The distance to the beach from my appartment was approx. 100 meters. The rooms are equipped with kitchen corner, a fridge with ice cube forms and simple bathroom. The bathroom was clean, but I just hate that plastic shower curtain. No ventilation in bathroom. Beds are comfortable and materace a bit too stiff for me, and the TV set is far too small (14 inch), but you don't come here to watch TV. Breakfast offers basic necessities for a greek breakfast: tomato, cucumber, luncheon meat and yellow cheese and joghurt. You can enjoy your breakfast sitting outside with a view to the beach. The hotel offers free parking on the parcel and has a nice garden with sunbeds and kids playground. I wouldn't recommend it for a longer stay, but for a weekend stay would do. It's a pity though, that breakfast, hotel bar and reception in the morning is server by one and the same person. But at least the bill was prepared before checking out, so check out is simple. Air conditioning (remote control picked up from reception) is included intro the price, but 80 Euros for a double room in July 2011 is too expensive.

Room Tip: Gardenia studios is next door, for sure have better rates!

I started to relax the minute I arrived at Avra Beach Hotel. It was mid May and not very busy, so totally perfect for me :-) The hotel is owned and run by a very nice and incuding family. The rooms are clean and tidy, the everyday cleaning is good and the accomodations in general are simple, but good. Sunbeds are available to a cost of £2 per bed.

I warmly recommend Avra Beach Hotel - and hope to visit Nidri again someday!

Regards, Ina.

From the moment we arrived we started to relax. We booked through Thomas Cook (Manos) and the flight times meant that we arrived at around 3 in the afternoon. This was perfect to unpack and get down to the beach bar for a light, late lunch and a cooling Mythos. The bar is shaded by luxuriant, well maintained greenery and looks out over the sparkiling sea. There is always plenty to watch from the bar and the narrow shingle beach. Boats of all shapes and sizes drift past and there is some entertainment from the Watersports motorboats that operate from the far end of the bay.

You hear the waves lapping as you eat and at night we were treated to beautiful moon rises over the bay. We did try other restaurants in the evening biut came back to the hotel because the quality of the food was good (especially the kleftiko) and the prices were reasonable. They were €8-10 cheaper per person than the restaurants on the main stretch of beach. The waiters were friendly and tried to extend our limited Greek.

Rooms were clean and simple. We welcomed the fridge. There was good air con with a "quiet" setting which meant that we were cool and could sleep at night. The doors to the balcony (which did not feel private - the only one negative we have) had three sections - an outer louvered door, a middle mossy mesh door and an inner, doubled glazed door - which was excellent for sound proofing and keeping out the (albeit little) noise from the car park below. The bathroom had a gushing shower with easy temperature control.

The beds were large and comfortable and we slept really well every night.

Breakfast - good choice, meat, cheese, tomato, yoghurt, honey, cereals, different breads, cake, juices and ... freash filter coffee, A lovely way to start the morning sat at the terrace overlooking the garden.

Plenty of sunbeds - in the shade of the garden and on the beach.

Sea was clear and warm. You need to swim before 10 in the morning if you are going to see any fish as the area has been heavily over fished and they are few in number. You have three or four strides out into the water down a moderately steep shingle slope - many people needed their beach shoes to get in and out.

Good mix of nationalities staying at the hotel - including many Greek people which we thoiught was a good sign.

600 metres down the beach and round the corner is the main beach area for Nidri and, slightly further on, the main harbour. A walk along the beach and to eye up the boats was good way to start the evening. There are plenty of boats trips - after chatting to a few people we booked on the Odysseus and loved it. There was plenty of space on board - for the Captain to show off his Greek dancing and to draw in the passengers. The commentary they gave was informative and not intrusive. It was a trip with plenty of character (and ouzo).

The walk to the waterfall was just under 4km, well signposted and worth it when we got there. Paddling in the cool pool in the early morning was very refreshing. Probably by August the fall will have dried up - so worth checking before you set out, Even wiithout the
water the walk, once out of town, was worth doing.

And to our final day..... The coach pickup was at noon and the hotel check out was noon. So, we didn't have to go through the hassle of arranging additional room time. There was time for last swims and a good shower. We left relaxed and refreshed.

Booked Avra Beach, through Manos (Thomas Cook), for one week B&B.
Having read the previous reviews I felt confident enough that it would be adequate for our needs. Was a little concerned about Nidri, as being a tacky, noisy spot.

Arrived Sunday 19th. Hotel set off the main street down a little paved lane. The entrance and reception was bright and airy and the guy on the desk was welcoming and friendly. We had requested a sea view, which we had of sorts, due to the trees in the garden that fronts the hotel it was the best available. No Pool, no problem never tend to use them. The Avra has its own taverna and separate bar in the hotel. Both have the facility for outside dining at the beach front.

The room was spacious with twin beds (not the double we had requested), hey whatever. Good storage wardrobes and even though we were B&B a small fidge was provided. They should considern providing a few suitacase rests and a table to elevate the fridge off the floor, nothing major. The balcony lacked privacy and was in a line of 4 overlooking the car park, which you really didi not notce due to the eye level views of the flowering trees and the mountains in the distance The room had the following sliding doors to the said balcony. Louvred,Mosquito Mesh, and Glazed. A nice touch was the free supply of a mossie repllent gizmo and one free tablet. The room had air con, probablt necessary for the height of the summer and a ceileing fan. We slept with only the fan and never had the glazed doors closed throughout the stay. The louvred doors lock so you could have air circulated by the fan which provided a cool sleeping environment. A few nights there was some noise from people coming in ( as room 1 was at the front of the hotel) but no way was it rowdy.

The matresses and pillows were some of the best I have experience in Greece

Bathroom was clean and one of the better functioning ones we have encountered in Greece.

Linens and towels changed 3 times in the week and the room was visited by housekeeping daily.

The surrounding gardens were immaculately groomed and many of the flowers were in bloom. Plus there were plum and fig trees, the plums were particularly good.

The hotel has a beach front, but it is not exclusively for the hotel guests or the guests of the Avra Apts(adjacent) The beach itself was pebbly, had sunbeds for which we were only charged once during the whole week (a deal at 5 euros). As we had not reached the height of the season the beach was busy but not overly so. The gardens provided welcome shade as the temperatures were in the mid 80's over the week. Due to the location of the hotel the beach lost the main sun around 6:30 pm, which if you are one of the worshippers may be problematic.

The clientele was mixed with Scandanavian, Eastern Europeans and UK , probably in that order. So as one might expect the breakfast was European in nature, meats, tomatoes etc, some cereals, bread of course and wonderful fresh Greek Youghurt with honey or fruit cocktail.Oh and the ubiquitos maderia cake and variants. Regularly and unstintingly replenished but the staff. Maybe not to everyones taste, but perfectly fine, if you are looking for the fry up then this may not be the place for you. Go with it!

All in all an excellent choice and I would certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Go to the 2nd floor.
